It's not a matter of turbotax having no way of knowing how I want to calculate the penalty.  It's that it seems to me that turbotax would have picked up on the fact that I was in a potential penalty situation at all, especially given that I also used turbotax for the previous tax year such that it would have had the data necessary to determine if I'd paid in 100% of the tax liability from the previous tax year. I don't have a problem with having to pay the penalty. It just seems very odd that turbotax would not have picked up on the fact that I was in a penalty situation and prompted me accordingly, so that I could have simply paid the penalty when I filed. Doesn't that seem odd to you too?

That says it could be either the PIN or the AGI.  Try entering 0 for the AGI. The IRS might have processed your return later so the AGI didn't get entered in time.  Especially if you mailed it.  That works for most people. Thank you for your help with this.  I greatly appreciate it.  Take care.

Starting with TurboTax Desktop 2023, your TurboTax Desktop license code will be linked to a single account. This means that during installation of TurboTax Desktop 2023 & 2024, you'll be required to login or create an account before entering your license code to access the software. When you enter the license code it will become linked to your online account. In the event that you want to install TT Desktop on another computer (up to 3 allowed), you’ll have to login with the same account on each computer to use the license code. Once you login during installation, you’ll stay logged in for 14 days.   We believe this change will benefit our customers in the following ways: Peace of mind knowing you are purchasing a legitimate product. Ability to retrieve your license code from your online account in the case of loss. Helps prevent others from stealing your code. Ease of installation on multiple computers as the code is already there when you login. You'll stay logged in for 14 days, speeding up several actions that would require a separate login each time (i.e. add-ons, buying more returns).   Your TurboTax Desktop returns, and tax return information is NOT stored on our servers, so family or friends who are using your licence on different computers will not have access to that information through your account.   If you would like to review the TurboTax Desktop 2024 Software End User Licence Agreement, you can do so here: https://turbotax.intuit.ca/ty24/eula/ttd Thank you for choosing TurboTax.

Sorry it's too, late to start a 2023 or prior online return or use the mobile app, either on Turbo Tax or the IRS. And too late to efile 2023. To do a prior year return you have to buy the Desktop program here, https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products You will need a full Windows or Mac to install it on.   If you have a simple return and want to file for free you can fill out the forms by hand.  Here are some basic forms..... Here is the 2023 1040 return https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040--2023.pdf or if you want bigger type use 1040SR for Seniors, https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040s--2023.pdf 2023 1040 Instructions https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/i1040gi--2023.pdf 2023 EIC and Tax Tables https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/i1040tt--2023.pdf Schedules 1-3 https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040s1--2023.pdf https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040s2--2023.pdf https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040s3--2023.pdf Don’t forget your state. Then when you file for 2024 you need to enter 0 for the 2023 AGI since you are filing 2023 late.
“We received your tax return and are reviewing it. If we need additional information, we'll mail a notice with further instructions.”. How do I know if they have sent mail?
