Thanks @VolvoGirl  Specifically I guess that means that when you click the button to submit your returns by e-file you have to be signed into your TurboTax account.   Regarding the PIN.   I just took a look at the filing process by running through the filing screens on TurboTax and I see that on the page to electronically sign, it gives you a PIN # (there is already a number in the "PIN" field).   I just can't remember what the significance of that is.  What do you need that PIN number for?

@Kat271  just wanted to update on the issue of  standard deduction ----   Where as code section 63 does not specifically deal with the exception ( when person married and filing jointly with a US person) does not meet the entire year  requirement ,  IRS pub 551 on page 2  on the follow-on section  / para headed " Not Eligible  for the Standard Deduction" does indeed cover this .   Essentially saying that  if one  US person spouse  meets the standard deduction requirement, then the other spouse is also eligible to  use standard deduction.   So you are in the clear.  Sorry it took me a while to find  the language , even though the statute does not cover this specific situation.   Is there more I can do for you ?

The HSA custodian is going to remove the excess contribution ($11.08 balance of what’s left of a $13 excess contribution in 2023 to correct a $1.92 overdraft in the account.) Presumably they will code the removal of the $11.08 as an excess contribution (not a deposit correction as mistakenly told to him before.) The HSA balance will then be zero.   My son’s 2024 tax return will reflect the $13 excess on Form 5329 along with the $1 excise tax. He will also amend his 2023 return to include Form 1040-X, Form 5329, Form 8889 (to remove the $13 erroneously reported on Line 2) and maybe his 2023 5498-SA showing a $13 contribution and an $11.08 balance. Does this sound right? Would you include anything else with the amended 2023 return? Also, in the 2025 Tax Year when his 1099-SA shows removal of the $11.08 as excess contribution, is he then somehow going to have to explain what happened to the $1.92? His HSA balance will be zero, so that will have effectively removed the excess. There were no earnings on the $13 and the $13 came from his checking account after-tax, so no HSA deduction on his original 2023 tax return.

@Gadgeteer   You can’t transfer from 2022 to the 2024 program.  Did you mean 2023?   You need to have the data file ending in .tax2023 on your computer to transfer into 2024.  It should be in your Documents in a Turbo Tax folder.   If you have it saved somewhere else like in One Drive or on a backup first copy it to your C drive.  If you don’t have the actual .tax2023 file you may have the temporary file that starts with a Tilde ~ sign.   That’s incase your real file gets lost or corrupted.    Here's an idea.  Do you still have 2023 installed?  Try opening 2023 program and see if you can get your 2023 return to show up in it.  Go to FILE - OPEN.   Then save it again with a name and place you can find.  Go to File - Save As.  Then start a new 2024 return and transfer from the 2023 file.
I ran into the same problem for 2024, non-Maine resident trying to file through Turbotax.  Will try mailing the forms, even though I already paid to do a Maine e-file :(   Please fix this Turbotax!

@Crisco007 No, an upgrade won't fix this issue. We are aware of this issue, and we have an ongoing investigation about this. As this is an error message between Tax software's and CRA system, our team is working in collaboration with them to resolve this issue as soon as possible.   We will inform you in this thread, as soon as we have news to share.   We thank you for your patience.
Turbo tax allowed my return to be uploaded, but when doing my duaghters return it would not.

This issue has been melting my brain for the past few weeks. I was so frustrated I had to put it aside multiple times to save my sanity. This worked for me and it's disappointing that Turbo Tax didn't offer this solution to it's customers - shame on them. You are my hero, thank you!
It's been an option in the past, but I don't see it this year.

It depends. If the wages were not from a New Jersey (NJ) source and you did not live in NJ in 2024 and if there is no NJ state tax withheld, then a return is not required for NJ. File Form NJ-1040NR if you had income from New Jersey sources for the part of the year you were a nonresident. NJ Instructions (page 3) If you meet all of the requirements above, then you would file only your Connecticut (CT) resident return for 2024.   If you do not meet all of the requirements, any income that is required to be reported on NJ would create a tax credit for CT. See details below should you need to pay any tax to NJ for the same wages taxed to CT. @BM85

If no one has any ideas, im just skipping taxes permanently and moving on with my life. Tried calling support and the person on the phone was in a noisy environment just moving around and not communicating enough after 2 minutes. Any bypass?
There are 2 types of dependents. There is no specific income limit for a child dependent. There is a $5050 income limit for a qualifying relative dependent.
@vuldub were you able to update your software? do you still have an issue with your T936?   Thank you for choosing TurboTax.
Under Spouse Info, there are only fields for Middle initial, Last name and SSN or ITIN.

Still does not work.  I even did a new return from scratch.  The info is there when you click on the 68140 box 15 but it still has 0.00 when you exit.  Just horrible.

I paid the balance due on our 2024 federal tax return on the Turbo Tax site in the process of e-filing, but I haven't received a confirmation and the charge doesn't appear on my credit card as pending whereas later credit card charges due.  How can I get a confirmation?
