Since you e-Filed with TurboTax and were ACCEPTED, there is no charge to AMEND your tax return with TurboTax. @dec1221
Saturday
Form 1040-X becomes your new tax return. Amendment #2 must be based on values shown on Amendment #1. In other words, move 1040-X #1 Col C. into 1040-X #2 Col A. @fivestitchinghopes

I have a LLC partnership with my wife who was a nonresident alien but with work visa back in 2024. I received a notice and a penalty notice from IRS claiming we didn’t file form 8804 and form 8805. However, I did file them along with 1065 in March 2025, but the form 8804 I filed was mistakenly filled for calendar year 2023 instead of 2024. what should I do in this case?

@taxmen2021 you only pay taxes where you LIVE or where you WORK. 1) file NY part year resident tax return for income earned through 5/30. 2) file MA part year resident tax return for income earned from Jun 1 - Dec 31. one sticking point.... NY is very particular if you have a NY based job and moved out of state for your convenience. If your employer required you to move, then fine (no NY tax on that income), but if you moved for convenience, NY would still require you to pay NY tax on that income.

@jamesbell1277 Be aware it is not safe to post personal info in this public Internet community forum, especially inviting people to call you. You could be spammed/scammed by someone pretending to be from TurboTax, a fake tax professional, etc. TurboTax Support will not phone you from the forum. You can remove your phone number by editing your question. To do that, click the tiny blue 3-dot icon just to the right of the question title. A forum moderator also could possibly remove it. [Edit note: In a comment that follows this one, I told you how you can phone TurboTax Support for free, if desired, or how you may be able to get help in this forum, depending on your issue. Otherwise, here's how to get help from a live tax expert:] Upgrade to TurboTax Experts add-on (extra fee) https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/intuit-product-orders/get-turbotax-live/L2kcnq0BN_US_en_US TurboTax also has more expensive Expert Full Service, if you want to have someone actually prepare the return for you from start to finish.

I e-filed for an extension on April 15 using TurboTax Online. I entered an electronic payment to be made from my checking account. I then received a message that the extension request was rejected. There was no error code with the message. I now can't find anything on TurboTax Online about fixing this extension request, and my estimated tax payment has not yet been deducted from my checking account. How can I address and fix this?

Do you get Social Security? It may have not calculated the right taxable amount on 1040 line 6b. After you enter your SS in the interview the next screen is a big page to answer if you lived in a Foreign Country. People have been skipping it or answering it wrong. You have to check NO on that screen and for each spouse if married. Before you file your tax return you should always review and compare it line by line to the prior year to check if the amounts look right and you have the same items on each return and on the right lines. Then you would have seen 1040 line 6b had zero taxable Social Security and you could have questioned it. Especially if some was taxable last year.

No one can see your situation in this public user community forum. Was there no explanation in the IRS letter about what topic they changed? If not, you may to phone the IRS and ask for more information. Also, you can phone the free TurboTax Audit Support Center for help with an IRS letter. https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-audit/turbotax-audit-support/L6AcMoNFD_US_en_US The phone number is about halfway down the page. Be sure you use the one for the TurboTax Audit Support Guarantee, and not the one for Audit Defense, which is a paid third-party product. Also see @ VolvoGirl comment below about a known cause that is happening to some people with Social Security, if that is your issue.

@mskim-er55 At the Tax Home page, is your interview closed, and you don't know how to open it? If your return interview is closed, then at the Tax Home scroll down and look for a link/button "Add a State." May be near or after "Your Tax Returns & Documents." That doesn't really add one, but will open a return interview back up so you can finish and file. Then you can go through the FILE section again.

There is a known (reported to developers) user interface quirk in the 2025 versions of TurboTax where the "Deductions & Credits" summary page has been showing a sales tax number, even if it isn't being used for your actual return. Along with this, there have been instances where the user interface shows that the standard deduction was chose, but the actual tax forms show itemized deductions if greater. To see what is actually happening:
Online: Go to Tax Tools > Tools > View Tax Summary > Preview my 1040. Look at Schedule A, Line 5.
Desktop: Just switch to Forms Mode.
Check your Form 1040, Line 12e to see whether your return has the standard deduction for your filing status, or a larger amount for itemized deductions. The itemized deductions appear on Schedule A.
From the list of Forms shown on the left of the Forms screen, or the Preview of your tax return, find Schedule A. There, you can see which items are included in the total for Taxes You Paid, and whether you get the benefit of itemizing your deductions.
See this TurboTax tips article for more information about Schedule A and itemizing your deductions.
