@Mary7430 The message you received was generated by the IRS and forwarded to TurboTax. The problem is on the IRS end, not TurboTax.

Exactly where on the federal return is it showing up as a credit or tax payment? It should be on Schedule A as a state tax paid in 2025 if you itemize deductions. When you apply a refund to next year it counts as an estimated tax payment on both state and federal. You do not need to enter the state refund as income on your federal return if you took the Standard Deduction on your 2024 return. It might just be showing up on a review or summary screen. You need to check the actual 1040 federal tax return line by line.

That error can be caused in a couple of places so follow these steps:
In your personal information, select single again.
In the GA return, you want code 2 for part year resident. If the screen shows code 3, you are indicating one spouse is a resident and one is not.
If you still have trouble:
delete the GA Sch 3
delete the GA return.
start fresh with a new GA return selecting part-year resident.

TurboTax technical support - there are two technical errors in how the turbotax premier desktop version is handling publicly traded stock charitable donations. When I enter all the information for a publicly traded stock charitable donation in the step-by-step section, the resulting Contribution Worksheet form is erroneously excluding the number of shares on line 5 and also erroneously indicates "comparative sales" on line 7 even though it should report "average share price" for publicly traded stocks, which is what I entered on the step-by-step form. Those two errors flow to Form 8283. When I override those two items on the Contribution Worksheet to correct them so that they flow correctly to the analogous Form 8283 Part I Line 1 boxes c and e, the review section of Turbotax then indicates that the two overrides on the supporting form (which won't be efiled) will create a cross-checking problem when I e-file. Is there a workaround for this?

Same error code still not fixed. I have submitted my taxes twice now and both have been rejected. The second one I submitted on Friday 1/30 was just rejected 5 minutes ago. If this is an error on TurboTax then it needs to be fixed ASAP! The only thing different I put in this year was a 1099-misc. for a class action lawsuit my wife got from her place of employment. I wonder if that is the cause of the issue. TurboTax is very vague on how to correct the problem.

I got this exact same message word for word. I’ve tried deleting the form, updating TurboTax, re-doing the form, then re-submitting it. It got rejected again. I’m going to wait until February 13th and try again but have the feeling TurboTax will not have this fixed by then. If they dont’t I will try FreetaxUSA. This will be my last year purchasing Turbo Tax if this is not working by February 13th. If they think they can have it fixed by February 13th, why don’t they just fix it now? Is that just a made-up date for them to tell us a new date further out again? People were having a problem with another part of this form 5695 last year and the date it would be fixed kept getting pushed out. April 11th was the last date I heard. I don’t know what people ended up doing but Turbo Tax has had a full year to test out this form to make sure it works. Why hasn’t it?

@user17700491933 the system requirements were very clear on this. It will work in a Win 11 VM. If you don't want the offer to switch your desktop license to TT Online Premium Fed+State for no extra cost (Online is different workflow/functionality e.g. no forms mode, 1 return only), then you can request a refund here https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/intuit-refunds/request-refund-turbotax-product/L834M6uyW_US_en_US

In the section "time to enter [name]'s education expenses", the top line is for entering expenses where books and materials were required to be purchased from the school. The bottom line for Optional books and materials is for those items not purchased from the school. Materials such as computers and software can qualify in either of these categories, but only if the purchase of these items is required by the school as a condition of enrollment.
You can make the entries in Forms mode for Room and board, special needs expenses, etc., but do notice that those expenses do not carry over to the next two columns for either the Lifetime Learning Credit or the American Opportunity Credit. This would be the reason why questions regarding these expenses do not appear in this section.

I'm currently using vmware workstation (running in a linux desktop system) to run windows 11, in order to run turbotax. Intuit insisted on upgrading my windows 10 system to windows 11, but window 11 insisted on having the computer boot from UEFI, rather than BIOS. I eventually spoofed UEFI within vmware, and then went through a 3-day windows upgrade from hell. I eventually succeeded, but I'd hate to be faced with that mess again. But it's vanishingly unlikely that Intuit will port turbotax to linux. This year, they were pushing me to start my taxes online, and if I didn't like that and wanted to switch to desktop, they would allow that. Frankly, making the switch from online to desktop sounds like a hassle, and requires human intervention along the way. Good luck getting a human on the phone these days! From the account below, It sounds like the online version does not support viewing the forms directly. To me, that is a deal-breaker: I have to be able to verify that turbotax is doing the calculations directly. In a previous year, I found that the state forms did not correctly process the percentage of US government interest for my mutual funds https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/taxes/discussion/can-i-switch-to-desktop-version-after-paying-for-online-version/00/2608395
