Again, there's no need to wait for the appointment to file.

Correct but you should be able to self-select a PIN.

Hopefully you all can answer my real need here. I have tax year 2025 foreign tax paid. No tax year 2025 credit possible and I want to record the carry credit to 2027 and beyond till used or expired. With these circumstances, desktop TurboTax should know to efile the proper forms. Does Turbotax work for this as it has in the past or not (checking the recommended boxes does not fix it)? Are you telling me I have paper file my entire Federal return by mail (including f1116 ) because TurboTax is not working correctly? Or do I only need to paper file the F1116 only? Or something else? Please advise soonest.

Hi @JerryChicago I wasn't able to recreate. When testing, I updated the software, restarted my device. Next I went to Print Center > Save as PDF and then used "1. xxxxx.." as a test. I was able to find it in the downloads saved as tested. Do you still get the truncated pdf file name? Are you accessing the "Save as PDF" pop-up in another way? Let me know. Thanks!

The reason you are not finding a single entry point to report your conversion is that reporting a backdoor Roth conversion is a two-step process. Here is how to properly report your Roth IRA conversion in TurboTax:
Step One:
Go to Deductions & Credits, Retirement and Investments, Traditional and Roth IRA Contributions, to enter your contribution amount
Next, select Traditional IRA and continue through the interview, ensuring you select "No" when asked if you recharacterized the contribution
You should receive a message informing you that it is a nondeductible IRA contribution once you have made the entries
Step Two:
Go to Wages & Income, Retirement Plans and Social Security to enter your Form 1099-R information
Ensure you select, "I converted some or all of it to a Roth IRA"
Continue answering the questions until you reach the "Review your 1099-R Info" screen
To review your conversion results:
Click Tax Tools on the left panel within TurboTax
Scroll down and click Tools
Select View Tax Summary from Tools Center once it opens
Click Preview my 1040 which will appear above Tax tools on the left panel
Scroll down and look for Line 4a, ensuring it contains the distribution amount
Next, check Line 4b to ensure there is either a zero (0), or is blank

Your state refund is processed separate from your federal refund. So the IRS website does not track your Michigan refund.

Hi VolvoGirl, Thank you for your response. It is very possible I am not following what you are saying but to the best of my amateur knowledge, I don't think what you are saying applies to my situation. It's a very basic situation...side cleaning business, got paid $3,500 in 2025. Expenses total close to $3,750. TurboTax is capping my expenses at $3,325. If I add any smaller expense, say $30 for a mop, my expenses stay capped st $3,325. If I make up a fake large expense, say $10,000 for the best vacuum in the world, suddenly my Expenses go all the way up to closer to $14,000 putting me at a loss. That's what I don't understand. Why are my smaller expenses not adding in?

You did not anwer the question asked, as to how to have a pension plan not be treated as an annuity. I HAVE THE SAME ISSUE with a pension plan that TurboTax has always handled the difference in Gross Distribution and "Taxable Amount" with a simple confirmation that the information was correct! IT IS NOT AN ANNUITY!

Where did you enter that IRA balance? I retyped the 1099-R manually and went through the IRA Contributions link but never got a prompt to enter the balance. This has always worked in previous years. I spent 2 hours on the phone with TT support and they couldn't figure out why it wasn't working. Thoughts?
