There are a number of possibilities. 1. If your child turned 17 (is 17 or older as of Dec 31, 2025) 2. You entered their birthdate wrong. 3. You did not enter a valid SSN, or you indicated that the SSN was "not valid for working". 4. You indicated the child did not live in your home more than half the year.  Make sure you select "7 months" or longer, since Turbotax treats "6 months" as exactly half the year and exactly half is not more than half. 5. You picked the wrong type of relationship for the child. 6. You have not entered all your taxable income yet.  The full credit is only available if you have at least some income from working.  Pensions, gambling prizes, interest and investment income, and other types of income do not enable the full credit.

Every time I see an update, I think, yes, finally, the 1099-R form is ready, only to be disappointed ... again.  Turbotax has known, since the BBB was signed into law in July 2025, what changes were going to be made.  Turbotax keeps saying that they have to wait on the IRS to make the changes from their end first.  I've been on the IRS site and the Form 1099-R has been ready for some time.  WHY is it taking you so long, Turbotax?

@DIY_Tax_Person wrote: The 2026 startup costs are essentially adding upgrades to my home that I otherwise would not add, for example, soundproofing some walls, adding an outlet in a hallway for a refrigerator, installing an extra thermostat, and installing a keypad-coded entry door lock.  So, that's a bit different.  My recommendation here is to ignore those costs.  Whenever you begin using your home for business, and presuming your use qualifies for the home office deduction (business use of your home) you will claim depreciation for that portion of the home.  Depreciation is a mixed bag because, even though you get an immediate tax deduction, you have to repay that depreciation when you sell.  It's almost always better to take the immediate deduction, and repay later with cheaper (inflated) money.  But it's not the same as taking a direct expense.  (For example, the refrigerator itself can be depreciated or expensed--if under $2500--and expensing is almost always better.)   If you had a finished house, and you ripped out some drywall to install soundproofing that was an ordinary and necessary business expense, that would not be an immediate expense, it would be entered as a separate asset that would be depreciated over 39.5 years (for business) or 27.5 years (if a residential rental unit).    I am not sure that you can treat your newly rebuilt home as two different assets, if you are not using it for business at the time.  In other words, treat the house as a personal asset, and then treat only certain modifications as a separate business asset.  Even if you were allowed to do that, the best that would happen is that you would get slightly higher depreciation over the next 39.5 years, by depreciating the entire "upgrade" portion of the house plus the percentage due to the home office deduction, instead of just deducting a percentage of the entire cost.  I don't think you can treat one house being built at one time as two different assets, if you want to pursue this, please check with an accountant.  I would simply build the house to your needs, then when you begin using a portion in business, you will depreciate it using the normal home office procedure.

You have your years confused.   This is 2026.    People are now preparing tax returns for tax year 2025.   The retirement income section for 2025 will be ready on January 21, 2026.
It is certainly disappointing.  I also as of today can not enter my 1099R's.

We see people get confused and they keep logging in to online software which will require them to pay at the end.   You need to use the desktop software.   One way to tell if you are using the right software---your tool bar.   Online software has the toolbar in a black vertical column on the left side of the screen.   Desktop software has the tools up on the top of your TT screen.     You appear to be posting from online software instead of the desktop CD/download software that the license code is for.  If you are using online, you are using the wrong program.  You need to switch to the desktop software to get what you paid for.  You have to download it, update it and open it up from your own hard drive to use it.     https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/choosing-a-product/help/how-do-i-switch-from-turbotax-online-to-the-turbotax-software/00/26129

https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/charges-and-fees/help/why-can-t-i-deduct-my-turbotax-fees-from-my-refund/00/25621   If your refund is enough to cover your TurboTax fees PLUS the extra “refund processing” fee of $40 ($45 in CA) and your forms are ready then when you are in the FILE section you can choose to have your fees deducted from your federal refund by a third party bank, who will take out your fees and send you the rest of your refund after the IRS issues the refund.    Please make note that if your refund takes too long to arrive (IRS delays, etc.) then you will also be agreeing that the TurboTax fees can be extracted from your bank account even before your refund is issued by the IRS.  This comes as an unpleasant shock to many people every year.      If you can possibly pay your fees upfront using a debit or credit card, it will save you that extra fee and even more importantly, the possible aggravation and delays that are often the result of poor handling/poor customer service by that third party bank.  We see way too many instances where refunds are delayed for months when users choose refund processing. There have been lots of complaints; there are a number of things that can go wrong when you use refund processing.  I suggest avoiding that situation if at all possible.     And....you can never pay state tax due from a federal refund, so do not expect that.   The state tax due has to be paid directly to your state.     What is Refund Processing Service?     How can I see my TurboTax  fees?      https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/intuit-account-billing/review-fees-turbotax-online/L1XnIzgzg_US_en_US?uid=m682vq7k

You probably answered something incorrectly in MY INFO.   Go back to MY INFO, click the child’s name  and go through all of the interview questions carefully and slowly.  Read every screen top to bottom.     Make sure you have entered your child as a dependent in My Info, and that you have entered the child's Social Security number.    Careful— do not say that your child’s SSN is not valid for employment.  If your child was born in 2025 make sure you said he lived with you the whole year.  There is an oddly worded question that asks if the child paid over half their own support.  Say NO to that question.
