Take a moment and check the forms. If the Employer Identification number (Box b.) on the W-2.  Do not add them together. Is one form a W-2 and the other a W-2C. If you haven't filed yet, enter the W-2C and not the regular W-2. The W-2C is a corrected copy. If they are both regular W-2s, employers will often go to a second page to add additional information. If boxes 18, 19, 20 are full on the first one, the second one is for additional information. Those boxes are to report Town and City local information.

I have a question regarding the reporting and taxing of loan forgiveness.  I will receive a 1099 this year that represents "loan" forgiveness from a hospital for a "loan" that includes 1 year salary guarantee/student loan repayment/signing bonus/relocation.  It is forgiven at a rate of 1/24 each month I continue at the position.  This 1099 will cover three months of forgiveness (Oct-Dec 2025). If I were to leave my position I would be responsible for repaying the balance of the "loan" amount. The salary guarantee covered the period of Oct 2024-Sept 2025. For the portion of the "loan" was paid to me in salary I will receive a W2 (from the private group I was employed by and paid by during the guarantee period). Regular income taxes will have already been withheld/paid on the amount covering the salary. My understanding is that since I have already paid taxes on the salary portion reported on the W2 I should not responsible for the salary portion that is reported for forgiveness on the 1099 as it will result in double taxation on the salary portion. Is there a was to make the reduction in the amount reported for forgiveness on the 1099 within Turbotax that would allow me to utilize the product to complete my return for 2025. I have been using Turbotax for about 7 years and would love to continue, but this situation is unique. Thank you for your help in advance.

Margaret - I also receive payments from a nonqualified pension plan. The local municipalities in Pa tax earned income. Since these payments are not considered earned income for purposes of IRA contributions does that also mean they would not be considered earned income for this local income tax? (I’m getting conflicting answers on the research I am doing on this topic.)   Thanks Mike

When will the 1099 R sections for annuities be available
Be careful.  That question did not ask if YOU paid over half.   It asked if your toddler paid over half.  Say NO.
None.   Was at least half of child's expenses paid by CHILD? Usually is NO, Child didn't pay for more than half of their living expenses. It's not asking if you paid more.

Try entering the amount in box 1 for the RMD question for pensions  It's always been that way when entering a pension.     Update.  I found my note..... For a pension, it's whatever they send you. Say all of it is the RMD. If you have a RMD requirement it will ask you if it is the RMD. Say yes and enter the amount as the RMD amount. The pension doesn't need to calculate any RMD. Anything your pension pays you is considered to be the RMD. Traditional pensions automatically fulfill the rules of an RMD. So just enter the same amount in box 1 for the RMD for each 1099R.
