I sold property outside USA and paid tax to foreign government . Now, I need to get Foreign Tax Credit (FTC) for the taxes I paid.   I have a question on what amount you put in form 1116, Part 1, Line 1a for a foreign property sale? 1. Do you put Sale price - agent's commission or  2. You put net profit (Sale Price - Purchase Price - Agent's commission)

The easiest way to correct this entry (if you can't fix the amount you already entered) is to delete your state return and start over. TurboTax will repopulate the state return with the original information before any changes you made.   You can delete your state return in TurboTax Online as long as you haven't paid yet. Open or continue your return. Select State Taxes from Tax Home. On the Status of your state returns screen, select the trashcan icon next to your state, then select Delete. If you’ve already paid your state fees, you can’t delete your return, but you can start over by selecting Start Over next to your state return on the Status of your state returns screen.   If you're using TurboTax for Desktop, open your return and go to File >> Remove State Return in the TurboTax menu at the top. Then go to State Taxes to create a new state return.

This is not live chat, @user17757653977. This is basically a Q&A type board.

The Taxpayer Advocate Service for IRS says, Once you have signed up for your online account, you can check your tax transcript for updates to your tax return. If you see code 570, that means that there is a delay in processing your return. This doesn’t necessarily mean that there is anything wrong with your return, but you may receive a request for additional information – including a request to verify your identity. Once the IRS has sent a notice or letter asking you for additional information, you may see code 971. Make sure you check your mail to ensure that you receive your letter or notice and respond in a timely fashion so that your tax return can continue processing. And don’t forget to report any address changes to the IRS to make sure that your letter can reach you. If you feel that you have not missed any IRS communications, then please see the Taxpayer Advocate Service Contact us page.

Thanks for the quick reply.  I forgot to mention that I obtained the online transcript and it shows on Line 41 the entire overpayment (not adjusted for interest owed using either my calculation or the DOR's calculation) and fails to state how much, if any, was applied to TY2025.  I also tried running the "Where is my refund?" tool on the DOR portal, but it only works with the current (TY2025) tax returns, not any prior years.  Any other suggestions?

Pershing/ BNY reports ordinary investment income (coupon payments on their investment notes) on 1099-MISC box 3. After I answer all of TurboTax questions truthfully, it concludes that it is some sort of self-employment income and creates schedule C.   Why can't TurboTax handle this correctly? It seems a TurboTax bug to me. Reading through IRS publication about 1099-MISC (https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/i1099mec.pdf), my interpretation is that the brokerage should be ok to report ordinary investment income (that's not dividends, royalties, stock transactions, interest, etc) on box 3. TurboTax should handle this correctly.

the company that manages the fund(s) (e.g. Nuveen etc) will issue a supplemental tax letter which breaks down the state %s so check their website for this information and use that to calculate the amount by state.   you don't ned to enter every state into Turbotax just your home state, territories (e.g. Puerto Rico) usually exempt from state taxes, and the rest that is taxable in your state you can input as "Multiple States".  Check the outcome on your state return usually handled as an "addition" adjustment to Federal income for the amount that is state taxable.
