Once your tax return is released to the IRS, TurboTax has no control over it.
However, the IRS has published an article because delays happen so frequently.
Why it may take longer than 21 days for some taxpayers to receive their federal refund
The IRS states, "To check the status of a refund, taxpayers should use the
Where's My Refund? tool on IRS.gov."
This website may provide some indication for the delay.
You can call the IRS toll-free at 1-800-829-1040
You will need:
Social Security Number
Zip Code

We at Intuit TurboTax want our users to be completely delighted with their experience using our products and services, and successful in their financial lives and businesses. Once you file your return, as long as the settings to receive communication from Intuit don’t block it, you will see a pop-up message or receive an email with a survey asking you about your experience. We encourage you to leave your notes and comments there. “Voice of the Customer” notes and comments are read and acted upon. If you are using TurboTax Desktop, you can also leave feedback at the Final Steps tab.

When filling out the information for each year's lump sum worksheet, be sure you are looking at the information reported on that year's actual tax return. After you have those in hand, review your entries for each prior year worksheet.
Often, when lump sum payments are received for previous years, the recipient is being paid for prior year benefits for the first time. The payments are just being made retroactively and no Social Security was actually paid during those prior years. If that is the case for you, then there would not be a taxable amount of Social Security income shown on the prior year tax returns because none had been paid during that prior year.
The 'red' information you are seeing indicates that there is conflicting information being entered and the value could be incorrect based on other entries that have been made.

So your fed is right. Look at your original state return and see what interest income and adjustments were. I dont do your state so not sure where adjustment for UST interest is. Something is not making sense. 100% have the original saved as a file. Then save the amended as another file name. i think in your original. Filing you must have indicated during fed or state interview the amount as state tax free.

Hello, I am in basically an identical situation with a house that was rented for years, vacated in late 2024 and under renovation for all of 2025. I am still working on the house and hoping to finish this summer. Can you pinpoint me to where the IRS guidance says that the house needs to be converted to a personal property while undergoing renovations? I am reading 2025 IRS Publication 527 and see the following sub-section on page 6 of the document: Vacant rental property. If you hold property for rental purposes, you may be able to deduct your ordinary and necessary expenses (including depreciation) for managing, conserving, or maintaining the property while the property is vacant. However, you can’t deduct any loss of rental income for the period the property is vacant. Additionally, page 9 has the following sub-section: Idle Property Continue to claim a deduction for depreciation on property used in your rental activity even if it is temporarily idle (not in use). For example, if you must make repairs after a tenant moves out, you still depreciate the rental property during the time it isn’t available for rent. These sections seem to directly contradict your advice to reclassify the rental as personal property for the duration of the renovation. Namely the Idle Property section directly states that the property should continue to be depreciated after the tenant moves out and the property isn't available for rent. In my case, this house is a rental, always used as a rental and I have no plans to ever use it as a personal residence. As with the original poster, my main concern is to get my taxes filed properly. Thus, if you could please point me to where the IRS directly states that the house needs to be treated as a personal residence while undergoing major renovation, that would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for the help!

To check on regular tax refund status via automated phone, call 800-829-1954.
Federal and state refunds come from completely separate entities. There is no rule as to which one will come in first or how long it will be between their arrival in your account.
TurboTax gives you an estimated date for receiving your refund based on a 21 day average from your date of acceptance, but it can take longer. “21 days” is not a promise from TurboTax or the IRS.
First, check your e-file status to see if your return was accepted:
https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/
Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control. TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.
You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount (line 35a of your 2025 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:
https://www.irs.gov/refunds
To track your state refund:
https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/track-state-refund/L3jgO8PGs_US_en_US?uid=lt447ebr
If you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund, that will take some extra time, while the third party bank handles the refund processing
https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/refunds-take-longer-others/L14YlqFrH_US_en_US?uid=lexdr7zh
.
https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/irs-refund-taking-longer-21-days/L2vRAJbdU_US_en_US?uid=lexe7lst
If you are getting earned income credit on line 27 or additional child tax credit on line 28 You are subject to the delay required by the PATH act. Do not expect your refund before early March
https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/internal-revenue-service/federal-refunds-delayed-due-path-act/L5jnQJsBi_US_en_US
Note: “Accepted” is not the same as “approved”. TurboTax tells you the e-file was accepted if the IRS deems that there is enough information on the return for them to take it in for processing. Only the IRS can approve of the refund, which is a later stage of processing. If the IRS approves your refund they will provide a date for the refund to be issued.

Return Received – We received your return and are processing it.
Refund Approved – We approved your refund and are preparing to issue it by the date shown.

In TurboTax Online, you can add attachments such as PDFs or images when prompted during your return to support certain entries. To add an attachment: 1. Select the option to upload a supporting document when prompted. 2. Choose the file from your computer and upload it. 3. Confirm the upload. Important: Attachments required for filing are generally not submitted electronically with your e-filed return. You will need to mail those documents separately to the IRS or state tax office. Keep copies of your attachments and mail them as instructed after submitting your return.

Do I need to file an extension for my personal state taxes?
Remember, an extension gives you more time to prepare your taxes, but it doesn't extend the time to pay your taxes. If you have an indication that you will owe taxes, you should make the payment by the original due date of the tax return to avoid additional interest and penalties, typically April 15th 2026.

Go to Deductions & Credits->Medical->HSA, MSA, 1099-SA. This will begin the HSA interview.
As you go through the HS interview, you should come to a screen titled "Let's enter [name]'s HSA contributions".
The first line on this screen should be the "employer" contributions, i.e., contributions made through the employer. This comes from the code W amount in box 12 on your W-2.
The second line on this screen should be your "personal" contributions, that is, contributions not made through the employer (i.ee., directly to the HSA). You can enter this amount on the second line. NOTE: do not enter any part of the code W amount into the second line.
This tax season, this screen did not appear for some taxpayers. Let us know if this is the case.

If you would like to send us a “diagnostic” file that has your “numbers” but not your personal information it would help. If you would like to do this, here are the instructions: (Don't forget to give us the state- CA seems clear enough)
TurboTax Online:
Open your return -Go to the menu panel on the left side of your return and select Tax Tools.
Then select Tools below Tax Tools.
A window will pop up which says Tools Center.
On this screen, select Share my file with Agent.
You will see a message explaining what the diagnostic copy is. Click okay through this screen and then you will get a Token number.
Reply to this thread with your Token number and your state. This will allow us to open a copy of your return without seeing any personal information.
TurboTax Desktop:
If you like, you can send a copy of your return that will be scrubbed to eliminate your personal data by using these steps:
Click on Online in the top left menu of TurboTax Desktop for Windows
Select 'Send Tax File to Agent'* > Follow the prompts to reach the token number.
Enter your email used for TurboTax > Enter your code > Send
Write down or send an image of your token number and state then place in this issue.
We can then review your exact scenario for a solution.
Please also tell us any states included in the return. This is necessary for us to view the return.
*If using a MAC, go to the menu at the top of the screen, select Help, then, 'Send Tax File to Agent')
We will be able to see exactly what you are seeing and we can determine what exactly is going on in your return to provide you with a resolution.

The “senior deduction” is added automatically by the software based on the date of birth and filing status you entered into MY INFO. You do not need to take any extra steps to enter it. (And…the new senior deduction has nothing to do with whether you are getting Social Security)
The deduction is not on the same line as your standard deduction. It is shown separately on line 13b.
2025 STANDARD DEDUCTION AMOUNTS
SINGLE $15,750 (65 or older/legally blind + $2000)
MARRIED FILING SEPARATELY $15,750 (65 or older/legally blind +1600)
MARRIED FILING JOINTLY $31,500 (65 or older/legally blind + $1600)
HEAD OF HOUSEHOLD $23,625 (65 or older/legally blind + $2000)
For 2025 through 2028 there is an extra deduction amount of up to $6000 per individual 65 or older filing Single, MFJ, or HOH which is phased out for taxpayers with modified adjusted gross income over $75,000 for single filers and $150,000 for joint filers.
(The deduction phases out completely at $175.000 Single or HOH, or $250,000 joint)
The $6,000 senior deduction will be calculated on 1040 Schedule 1-A page 2 Part V Enhanced Deduction for Seniors which goes to 1040 line 13b. It is separate and in addition to the Standard Deduction or your Itemized Deductions on 1040 line 12e. Turbo Tax automatically includes it.

If you are not getting the senior deduction it is because
Your date of birth in MY INFO shows that you were not 65 by the end of 2025
Your income is too high
You are filing married filing separately

If you received a 1099-Q and the full distribution was used on qualified education expenses, you should delete it as the form does not represent taxable income. When you receive IRS Form 1099-Q, you'll need to report this information on your tax return if the distribution is used for non-qualifying expenses.
If your distribution matches or is less than the qualifying educational expenses, you don't need to report it as income; however, any excess is typically taxable and could be subject to a penalty. See 1099-Q

chalk me up as another person who just spent at least an hour trying to figure out why my itemized deductions kept registering as $0 on the online version of Turbo Tax. I can't find a "forms view" on this version, however, so my only shot is clearing it and starting from scratch, but it's almost an $1800 difference for me. Very frustrating.
