How do I add a dependent? I tried to claim the same dependents I had last year.

I still have no idea what's going on.  Im not even sure if this charge is what I said above or if they're charging me for enhanced service.  I idiotically said yes when a prompt asked if I wanted extra help for $60 but the charge I'm seeing is like $140 so either way something is wrong.  But I can't reach anyone to tell me what's going on.  They don't seem to want their agents to have enough information to resolve anything.  I'm thinking of just giving up and transferring everything over to another program like EZ tax or something.  I don't think I can face trying to explain to another customer service person whats going on and them not understanding. I don't blame the employees, clearly they aren't given enough info to do their jobs.

Thursday's update had the GUI to continue with the energy credits for 2025.  I completed and submitted return thru efile on Jan 30 in am.  Got rejection notice at 11:30 PM.   Error in processing.  This is the error message:   F5695-086 - If Form 5695, [ 'MostExpnsFrncHotWtrBlrCostAmt' in 'FrncHotWtrBlrGrp' from 'EgyEffcntHmImprvCrGrp' ] has a non-zero value, then [ 'MostExpnsFrncHotWtrBlrQMID' in 'FrncHotWtrBlrGrp' from 'EgyEffcntHmImprvCrGrp' ] must be present unless a binary attachment or [GeneralDependencySmall] with description beginning with "Substantiate QMID" is present in the return. TT tells me:   This return cannot be processed at this time due to a processing error that will be fixed on Feb 13, 2026.  On or after that date, please log in and get the latest updates.  Then revisit the federal return, run the review and retransmit the form.   If the reject continues, you may want to file this return via US Mail: Print and mail it to the appropriate taxing authority.     WHAT!!!  I am so over TT.  I see a competitor product in my future.

On 1/30/2026 the form on a Mac platform was still “coming soon” even after I checked for updates.

Thanks for the info. It’s possible it was available earlier, even in Tahoe. It may have been just because I am used to TurboTax alerting me to updates when I open the program, and it did not do that. I had to go into the program and specifically check for them. I did not do that till the 29th.

Yes! There are definitely easy ways to calculate your educational expenses, including taxes, online. You can use general tuition or cost calculators, or even tax calculators, that allow you to add your course fees and applicable taxes. Websites like Calculator.net’s Tax Calculator, Bankrate’s Tuition Calculator, or even simple Excel/Google Sheets templates can help you quickly input your course cost and tax rate to get the total amount. Just enter your course fee, select the tax percentage (if applicable), and it will show you the total cost you’ll actually pay. Additionally, if you want a simple educational expense calculation, you can also use this calculator online for your course calculations.

Online TurboTax is only for 2025 returns.   If you need to prepare a 2024 return, and if you want to use TurboTax, then you would need the 2024 desktop software to install on your computer or laptop--not a tablet.   If you started a 2024 return in Online TurboTax last year, you can download the *.tax2024 data file from your account and finish working on it in 2024 software.   If you previously paid for Online TurboTax for 2024, TurboTax Support will likely provide you the 2024 desktop software to finish.   Otherwise, you can purchase 2024 software from TurboTax here: https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products/   Or you may be able to find the 2024 software at Amazon.   But if purchased from Amazon, be SURE you are buying directly from Amazon itself and not a reseller that sells on Amazon.   The 2024 return cannot be efiled.  It has to be printed, signed, dated, and mailed to the IRS.  And any state return (if applicable) would have to be mailed to the state tax agency.   It's recommended to send with a method that has tracking.

I am having the same problem.  I use the online version.  Turbo Tax says:  "This return cannot be filed at this time due to a processing error that will be corrected on January 31st, 2026. On or after this date, open the rejected return, review it for errors, and resubmit the return for electronic filing."  It is now Jan. 31 and nothing has changed.   I went in and deleted all my non-cash contributions that were over $500 and then put them back in, but I never got a prompt for the form besides it asking me some questions about this contribution about how much I paid for it and if I had it over a year.   I will try to talk to someone at Turbo Tax later today when someone is there and hopefully they can help me.  If nothing can be done, I will ask for a refund (who knows if they will give it to me) and I will go somewhere else.     I will keep checking here if any of you have any solutions?   Thank you!

When filling out the IRA 1099-R information, toward the bottom, it gives you some choices under the title: Inherited IRA or Type of IRA."   I have an IRA which is my own, and did not inherit.  If I choose the option of "Treat as recipient's own (This is treated as a rollover)," I end up paying less taxes.  I can't see anywhere in Turbo Tax where it asks if an IRA was inherited, or did I miss that? Would IRS flag my return if I claimed to have an inherited IRA, when in fact, I did not?  Thx
So my refund was wrong but I spent some moneydo I return the money or keep it

Had this same issue! I spent an hour waiting for cx service to get transferred to a tax expert. The hold was like 2 hours so I set it for a call back, but never got one. I have made LESS money this year than I have my previous years. Never at any point have I gotten anything about this stupid 8959 form.  I thought maybe it was a glitch? I've done it from my phone, from a tablet, on wifi, off wifi, starting over, manually imputting my W2's, scanning my W2's. Told me to upgrade every. Time. So I ended up filing with a different company this year - despite desperately wanting to use TurboTax. I attempted two different companies - getting to the end of filing before payment just to see if they gave me an issue with this form. Absolutely not. I got my state and federal done for free with FreeTaxUSA. Already approved. I have a feeling this message is TurboTax's attempt to screw over the common person who doesn't know anything about taxes and doesn't know how to research - just giving into paying to get it done. I doubt I will be using TurboTax moving forward unfortunately.  (FreeTaxUSA does state and federal for free if you meet very easy requirements)
