I am having the same problem.  The program enters all my trades as imported directly from my brokerage (Stifel) and calculates the capital gains total correctly.  It then also imports the amount from box 2a on my form 1099 from the brokerage and puts it on line 13 of schedule D, but then this gets added to the capital gains already entered in line 8a-10.  It's the same information entered twice and they get added together, doubling the total.

Now   When you are entering income on a joint return, every income entry screen will either have a spot with both spouse’s names there, or when you click to enter a W-2, 1099R, etc. it will ask you by name which spouse it is for.  You do not have to wait for the software to “ask” you for your spouse’s income. Go to the screens to enter your spouse’s W-2’s, 1099’s, etc. just like you did for your own income.  Then look for your spouse’s name there.

The 1099 has already been filed with the federal and state but the program needs the correct toggle in that area. It sounds like you are saying you have the same state listed twice on your form. If so, add the numbers or correct the numbers to make one good line. You can only have a state listed once. Check for another state entry that should be there instead - verify your form is actually correct Make sure the program doesn't think there is an extra line - delete blank state line - it will show but maybe some stuck data will clear.   If you need extra time, filing an extension by April 15, 2026, moves your submission deadline to October 15. But remember any taxes owed are still due in full by the original April 15 date.  Pay through either Direct Pay or your individual online account. See if you need to file a state extension.
