TurboTax gets no information about a return once it is filed. You would have to call the IRS.
Hello. I need Tax return transcripts 2020 I hope Turbo Tax can help me with it.

> Go here to see when the forms will ready.   That same comment has been made several times in this thread, and it indicates you don't know what we are concerned about here. So I'll say once again ..   You should scan this whole thread to understand the context. The link you referred to is when the forms should be available for filing. We are explicitly not talking about that. We are talking about doing year-end estimates, which are crucial for IRMAA calculations, Roth conversion amounts, etc.   We are also calling out the significant difference between this year and (for me) every single one of the past 32 years of using TurboTax.

I have a child that is a full time student that I usually claim as a dependent on my taxes. This year they were employed and made over $10,000 this year. They also got into sports betting and made over $10,000 doing that too. Would they still be considered a dependent and am I able to claim them on my taxes? Would the money that they made working and sports betting affect my taxes and increase my return? Or would they have to file as an independent? Also if they didn’t tell me about the sports betting would it show up when I would try and file them as a dependent. This is in NJ.

Remember the goal is to refresh anew all the transferred and entered data .. start with a clean slate. I'm not certain that 100% of the data entries I made two months ago were handled exactly right by the software. It has been suggested here to abandon the estimating phase return and start over. But I don't necessarily want to wipe all the supporting details clean.
When will all the 1099 forms be available, it is tax season by the way.

After 25 years filing without issue on Turbotax (like most desktop users), I'm optimistic this year will be no different.  We'll see how things unfold over the next few weeks, hopefully we see some update activity next week.  There are plenty of ways to do estimates.   If you want to complain, you can write to the Office of President https://www.intuit.com/company/contact/office-of-the-president/?cid=executives_intuit_click_us_oop-form_en_%7Ccontact_link%7C_oop

After you get the program installed or reinstalled the first thing to do before you open your tax return is to update the program and install any state programs you had. Then open your file. So you first might need to start a fake return to be able to download the state program (go to File-New Tax Return).   Then go to FILE -Open and find your return.   See this article on how to move your tax return to another computer……. https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/tax-data-file/help/how-do-i-move-my-tax-data-file-to-another-computer/00/26128   After you get the state program downloaded you can close the fake return and open the real .tax file.  Just go up to File-Open and try to open your return.   It will either show up in the box to Continue or you can browse to where it is.

If the child's parent(s) also live with you, the answer may be a little different.  See #5 & 6:   There are two types of dependents, "Qualifying Children"(QC) and Other ("Qualifying Relative" in IRS parlance even though they don't have to actually be related). There is no income limit for a QC but there is an age limit, student status, a relationship test and residence test. Only a QC qualifies a taxpayer for the Earned Income Credit and the Child Tax Credit (if under 17). They are interrelated but the rules are different for each. The support test is different for each type. The support test, for a QC, is only that the child didn't provide more than half his own support. The support test for a Qualifying Relative is that the taxpayer provided more than half the relative's support. A child closely related to a taxpayer can be a “Qualifying Child (QC)” dependent, regardless of the child's income, if: He is under age 19, or under 24 if a full time student for at least 5 months of the year, or  is totally & permanently disabled (under 17 to qualify for the child tax credit) He did not provide more than 1/2 his own support He lived with the relative (including temporary absences) for more than half the year He is younger than the relative (not applicable for a disabled child) If the child meets the rules to be a qualifying child of more than one person, you must be the person entitled to claim the child as a qualifying child (this essentially means that you have the parent’s permission to claim the child, if the child also lived with the parent more than half the year) If the parents of a child can claim the child as a qualifying child but no parent so claims the child, no one else can claim the child as a qualifying child unless that person's adjusted gross income (AGI) is higher than the highest AGI of any of the child's parents who can claim the child. The personal use days would only be if you are using the rental portion of the property for personal use (so that would be the rented RV space in this case).  If you aren't using that space yourself during the year, then you have 0 personal use days.   Land isn't depreciated, and so if they are just renting bare land, then you don't have any depreciation to report.  Other costs like mortgage interest can be split in proportion to the part of the land that you are renting, as a fraction of the whole property.  Utilities can be split using a reasonable method to determine what portion should be allocated to the renter vs. your personal use.    When you say "we share facilities in another building on the property", it depends on the specifics of that, but if there is a portion of the building that is exclusively for use by the renter, then that portion would be eligible for depreciation.
I am getting an error message 190 when i try to download my Indiana state tax forms. It "processes" but nothing actually downloads. HELP!

Yes you can claim her as your dependent on your 1040 as long as you and your wife file a joint tax return, she doesn't file a joint return with her spouse and you and your wife provide more than 50% of her support.  Here are the 5 tests on dependents: Key Tests to Claim a Dependent Qualifying Child Tests: To claim a qualifying child as a dependent, the following tests must be met: Relationship: The child must be your biological child, stepchild, adopted child, sibling, or a descendant of any of these.    Age: The child must be under 19 at the end of the year, or under 24 if a full-time student.    Residency: The child must live with you for more than half the year, with some exceptions for temporary absences.    Support: You must provide more than half of the child's total support during the year.    Joint Return: The child cannot file a joint return unless it is solely to claim a refund of withheld tax.      You may even file amended tax returns for 2022, 2023, and 2024 and claim her as your dependent as long as you meet the tests above.  However, you need to hurry for the 2022 amended tax return as the 3-year statute of limitation will run out soon.

@cottagecharm11 wrote: Where are these .tax files then. When I called for customer support they told me to search for them as .tax I followed their instructions on how to do it and they were gone. The support person then said they must have been deleted!   Anecdotally, some users have said theirs ended up in the Recycle Bin or unknowingly in OneDrive or other cloud storage, Time Machine, etc.    Rarely a Windows user has said that they found theirs in another Windows user account; i.e., they had multiple Windows user accounts, such as an Admin account or other user, and they signed into each one and ran all the searches in each Windows user account.
