USER ERROR WITH SOCIAL SECURITY ENTRY
We have seen a lot of people who made a user error with the entry of their SSA1099. The screen right after you enter the SSA1099 asks you if you lived in certain foreign countries in 2025. If you skipped past that screen or answered incorrectly, your Social Security was not taxed correctly. Look at your Form 1040 and see if line 6b was left blank due to that mistake. The IRS is catching those mistakes and correcting them by reducing your refund or increasing your tax due. It is really so important to read every screen slowly and carefully from top to bottom as you prepare your tax return to avoid errors.

If you have no other residential real estate assets that may have also been added on 4/12, and you're confident the last asset on the list is just a duplicate of the first entry, then you can select the 'Delete' button in your screenshot next to the asset. If it's just a duplicate entry, you wouldn't want to be claiming nearly double the depreciation deduction against 1 property.

To check on regular tax refund status via automated phone, call 800-829-1954.
Federal and state refunds come from completely separate entities. There is no rule as to which one will come in first or how long it will be between their arrival in your account.
TurboTax gives you an estimated date for receiving your refund based on a 21 day average from your date of acceptance, but it can take longer. “21 days” is not a promise from TurboTax or the IRS.
First, check your e-file status to see if your return was accepted:
https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/
Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control. TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.
You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount (line 35a of your 2025 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:
https://www.irs.gov/refunds
To track your state refund:
https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/track-state-refund/L3jgO8PGs_US_en_US?uid=lt447ebr
If you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund, that will take some extra time, while the third party bank handles the refund processing
https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/refunds-take-longer-others/L14YlqFrH_US_en_US?uid=lexdr7zh
.
https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/irs-refund-taking-longer-21-days/L2vRAJbdU_US_en_US?uid=lexe7lst
If you are getting earned income credit on line 27 or additional child tax credit on line 28 You are subject to the delay required by the PATH act. Do not expect your refund before early March
https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/internal-revenue-service/federal-refunds-delayed-due-path-act/L5jnQJsBi_US_en_US
Note: “Accepted” is not the same as “approved”. TurboTax tells you the e-file was accepted if the IRS deems that there is enough information on the return for them to take it in for processing. Only the IRS can approve of the refund, which is a later stage of processing. If the IRS approves your refund they will provide a date for the refund to be issued.
FROM THE IRS WHERE’S MY REFUND SITE:

How it works
Where's My Refund shows your refund status:
Return Received – We received your return and are processing it.
Refund Approved – We approved your refund and are preparing to issue it by the date shown.
Refund Sent – We sent the refund to your bank or to you in the mail. It may take 5 days for it to show in your bank account or several weeks for your check to arrive in the mail.

Unfortunately, at this point you will need to either continue to wait for the refund or for further information from the state. You can use the FTB Check Your Refund tool. If it says "Processed" but you don't have the money, it may have been intercepted for an "offset" (like an old traffic fine or state debt).
If you have (or can create) a MyFTB Account, log in and see if they have sent you a digital notice or if there is a "stop" on your account that hasn't arrived via mail yet.
Lastly, keep an eye out for a letter from the Franchise Tax Board. Most "pending" statuses that last over a month end with a request for more information.

Yes, that is the correct code so that none of your income should be taxed on the 2025 tax return, as all of your income was reported on your 2024 tax return.
R –Recharacterized IRA contribution made for 2024 and recharacterized in 2025
If there does happen to be any federal tax withholding (not common) on your 1099-R, then it would be included in your 2025 return (not 2024). Entering the 1099-R with the code noted is the correct action. You can use the information below to review your tax return (Form 1040, Lines 4a & 4b).
From the left rail menu in TurboTax Online, select Tax Tools (You may have to scroll down on the left rail menu.)
Select Tax Tools
On the drop-down select Tools
On the pop-up menu titled “Tools Center”, select View Tax Summary
On the left sidebar, select Preview my 1040
For TurboTax Desktop, change to 'Forms' and review the forms

No one else can see your tax return so we cannot possibly answer you. We do not know what federal credits you received for 2024 that you are not getting for 2025. There are quite a few possibilities----did you have a child who turned 17? If so you lost the child tax credit. Was your income a lot higher or a lot lower---earned income credit could have been affected. Did you receive some sort of energy credit last year that you do not get for 2024?
Print out your 2024 and 2025 returns and compare them side by side, line by line to see where the differences are.

The following links will provide details about who you can claim as a dependent and the child tax credit (CTC), additional child tax credit (ACTC) and earned income credit (EIC). Also, you could have self employment tax for self employment income (social security and medicare tax). The information will let you know income levels and what you might qualify for based on your income.
Who can I claim as a dependent?
What is the child tax credit (CTC)?
How do I report self employment income?
What's the additional child tax credit (ACTC)?
What is the earned income credit (EIC)?
The self employment net profit is first allowed to be reduced for 7.65% (1.0 - .0765 = .9235), this is then multiplied by the net profit to arrive at the amount subject to self employment tax ($500 x .9235= $462). The balance is taxed as follows:
$462 x 12.4% for social security tax = $57.28
$462 x 2.9% for medicare tax = $13.40
As you can see that is $71 dollars of self employment tax which must be completed on the Schedule C and Schedule SE to accurately reflect and compute the tax. You also get a deduction for half of the self employment tax on your Form 1040.

Your 2024 return can only be filed by mail now. E-filing is permanently closed for 2024 returns. And...if you owed tax due for 2024, your penalties and interest have been adding up since the filing deadline that you missed.
You will be able to access the 2024 return you started by using the exact same account and user ID that you used when you started it. But you can no longer use online software for any further changes.
Start a 2025 return online and enter some personal information so that the menu on the left opens up and lets you access your past year returns.
Online tax preparation and e-filing for 2024 returns is now permanently closed.
Now it is too late to use online software or to e-file. If you have any changes/corrections at all to make to your 2024 return, you now have to complete it using desktop software, which you must download to a full PC or Mac (not to a mobile device). Then you need to print, sign and mail it.
https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/printers-printing/finish-prior-year-return-started-turbotax-online/L9Oe4M90A_US_en_US?uid=m68tffpe
If you already paid for your online software you can ask customer support for a download of the desktop software.
They are available from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. Pacific time
https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1899263-what-is-the-turbotax-phone-number
If you are getting a refund, there is no penalty for filing late. If you owe tax due, then file and pay the amount due as shown on the Form 1040, but expect a bill later from the IRS for the penalty and interest you will owe. Only the IRS will calculate this—TurboTax will not calculate it.
When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.
Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses. Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.

If you used the current TurboTax online web based edition those are only for tax year 2025 and cannot be changed.
A 2022 tax return filed after the extension due date of October 15, 2023 can only be printed and mailed, it cannot be e-filed.
To complete and file a 2022 tax return using TurboTax you would need to purchase, download and install on a personal computer one of the 2022 desktop editions from this website - https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products/

@ lainekw25 wrote: "I paid and filed my return for 2022 late and I don’t see it or received it" Here's how to find your past 2022 return if previously prepared in Online TurboTax. This answer assumes your previous returns were prepared in Online TurboTax. Any return prepared in desktop TurboTax will not be in an Online account. Here's how one would normally find past-year online returns and how to troubleshoot for multiple accounts (User IDs) if necessary. Many people end up with more than 1 account. The pathway to download the PDF or tax data file depends on whether or not you have started an online 2025 return. I provide both scenarios below, so choose which one is appropriate for your situation. If you have not yet started a 2025 online return: Sign in to your account. What you see next depends on whether or not you have already started a 2025 return in that account. If your left column menu is minimal, and does not have a Tax Home tab displayed, that would imply you have not started preparing a 2025 return in that account. If you haven't yet started a return, it will start asking you some questions. Answer those preliminary questions on a few screens (you don't actually have to prepare a return), and then when you are far enough into the process, the left menu column will change, and you'll then see a Tax Home option in the left menu column. Do not click the Documents tab. Instead, click on Tax Home. Then on the Tax Home screen, scroll way down to the bottom to "Your Tax Returns & Documents". Expand that section and choose the past year you want. If your past returns are not shown there, then you likely have multiple accounts and signed into the wrong one. I'll tell you below how to troubleshoot. If you have already started a 2025 online return: Log in, and if you've already started a 2025 return in that account, then it may already open at the Tax Home. If not, click the Tax Home tab in the left column menu. Do not use the Documents tab. At the Tax Home scroll down and expand "Your Tax Returns & Documents." If the past returns are not there, see the steps below. If you do all that and can't find the past return, here's how to look for multiple accounts: You can have up to 5 accounts that use the same email address for notification purposes. A User ID may be an email address, but it doesn't have to be. It might be only part of an email address, or it can be anything at all. To get a list of your User IDs, reset password, and recover account access, etc., you can use the tool at the link below. When using the Account Recovery tool, try using your phone number first if you can still access it. After that, if necessary, then run the tool on your email address(es) you can access. NOTE: Before running the account recovery tool below, log out of all Intuit accounts including this user forum, or you might end up in a loop. Then clear your browser Internet cache, close your browser, then reopen it, and go to the link below. You may wish to copy this link so you can paste it into the new browser session. https://myturbotax.intuit.com/account-recovery If still no luck after running that on your phone number you can still access and email address(es) that you can access, here's another method: Go back to the tool again, but this time leave the data field blank, scroll down a bit, then choose the small blue link that says "Try something else", and it will look you up by other parameters.
