And...."I made some changes after submitting..."-----Oh no----those changes went nowhere but they messed up your tax return.   You cannot make changes to a tax return after you e-file it.      If there were some mistakes on the return you can only fix them if the e-file is rejected.  You can fix them and re-file.   But if the IRS accepted your e-file, you have to wait for the IRS to process the return fully and then amend.  You cannot amend now.  When and if you amend, it is done on a special form called Form 1040X which becomes available in late February.  And.....you have to be able to work from your return looking exactly the way it looked when you e-filed it.   So --- if you can----change it back to the way it looked before you e-filed it and then back away from the keyboard.

You know I finished entering all my Documents and I am ready to file. My Turbo Tax 2025 too the Remaining Credit I have from 2024 and entered it in the online form for CREDIT. But, without the updated 5695 form I don't know if I can file now.   It does show up in all the filing paperwork and NO ERRORS were found by Turbo Tax. Really pretty silly! THE IRS has all the DATA from Last Years filing the original Energy Credit and this year finish's the remaining credit, so I should have to fill out all the numbers again!

Form 1099-SA is about WITHDRAWING from an HSA.  That has nothing to do with CONTRIBUTING to an HSA, which is what the program seems to be talking about.   Did you enter a W-2 that has a code "W" in Box 12?  If so, that is the HSA contribution made through your employer, and is why  you are seeing that.   Until you through the entire HSA section to verify that you qualify for an HSA contribution, the program will tell you that you made an excess contribution (because it thinks you don't qualify until you tell it that you do qualify).

Because claiming a nephew or a brother usually has the same tax impact, in case that both qualify as a child dependent, this mistake does not represent any changes in your refund. You should wait for acceptance and only amend the return if the IRS asks for more information.   Just make sure that he meets all the IRS requirements to qualify as a child dependent, such as:    Relationship: The child can be your son, daughter, stepchild, eligible foster child, brother, sister, half-brother, half-sister, stepbrother, stepsister, adopted child or an offspring of any of them. Age: Your child must be under age 19 or, if a full-time student, under age 24. There's no age limit if your child is permanently and totally disabled. Residency: Your child must live with you for more than half the year, but several exceptions apply. Support: Your child may have a job, but they cannot provide more than half of their own support. To see more details, go to the link below:   requirements for dependents

It is possible. You could claim the child as your dependent IF the child earned less than 5,200 and you supplied more than half the child's support.   According to the IRS: Child in Canada or Mexico. You may be able to claim your child as a dependent even if the child lives in Canada or Mexico. If the child doesn't live with you, the child doesn't meet the residency test to be your qualifying child. However, the child may still be your qualifying relative. If the persons the child does live with aren't U.S. citizens and have no U.S. gross income, those persons aren't “taxpayers,” so the child isn't the qualifying child of any other taxpayer. If the child isn't the qualifying child of any other taxpayer, the child is your qualifying relative as long as the gross income test and the support test are met.   The child's gross income for the year must have been less than $5,200 AND  YOU must have provided more than half of the child's total support for the tax year.   @pierrelgordon

Same here. Been doing it for 7 years, and now this year having so much trouble around it. First it kept throwing me in a constant loop on the last 3 steps. Now the “ glitch” is it says “invalid payment method for TBM feature” aka you can’t pay using your refund. I called customer service 3 times and each agent keeps stating that it’s a glitch in the software. I think it’s just a new method to get customers to pay up front! I’m switching to H&R Block!  **update. No issue at H&R Block paying with my refund

As long as Schedule C is not populating, you should not have depreciation expense pulling onto your 1040 anymore (unless you have some from Rental Real Estate on Schedule E, or otherwise).    You may also check your Schedule SE (Self-Employment Tax) Line 2 does not include business income or loss; otherwise, confirm that no Schedule SE is being populated in the return.

First, check to see if you signed up for the TurboTax Refund Advance. You can look in a few specific places in your account or your email.    Check Your TurboTax Order Details On the Tax Home page, scroll down to the section for "Your tax returns & documents." Select View Order Details. Look for "Refund Advance" or "Credit Karma Money" listed under your payment and refund methods. If it’s not there, you likely selected a standard direct deposit or a different refund option.   Look for Confirmation Emails If you applied, you should have received automated emails from TurboTax and its partners. From TurboTax: Search for an email confirming your "Refund Selection." From Credit Karma: If you were approved, Credit Karma sends an email when the funds are deposited into your Credit Karma Money Spend account. From WebBank: If your application was denied, you will receive an email from WebBank (the lender) explaining the reason for the decline.   Check Your Credit Karma Money Account Because the Refund Advance is deposited into a Credit Karma Money™ Spend account, checking that account is the fastest way to see if the loan was processed. Log in to your Credit Karma account. Navigate to the Money tab. If you see a pending or completed deposit for a portion of your refund (typically between $250 and $4,000) shortly after the IRS accepted your return, that is your Refund Advance.   Review Your Tax Return Summary You can also find clues on your actual tax forms: Open your 2025 return in TurboTax Go to the Tax Tools menu on the left Select Print Center View your Federal Information Worksheet Look at the "Direct Deposit" section If you signed up for the advance, the bank account listed will be the MVB Bank account associated with Credit Karma, rather than your personal bank account.

If you are using the downloaded TurboTax product, you can check which amount is being used by clicking on Forms in the upper right.  Click on Schedule A on the left side menu under "Forms in My Return".  Line 5a has your state and local taxes and the box just to the left of 5a will be checked if the sales tax deduction is being used.  In the example from rjs, selecting either the top or bottom will give the higher deduction.   If you are using the online version of TurboTax, there isn't a way to check Schedule A to be sure which value is being used until you pay for your return.  If you have already paid for, but not submitted your return, you can always go back and make any changes necessary before submitting your return for e-filing.
