If you are over 59 ½ then your Roth distributions are Qualified Distributions and your Form 1099-R should have code T or Q. In this case, you can ignore this question.   If you are under 59 ½ then TurboTax will need this information to calculate how much of your distribution is taxable. Roth IRA contributions can be withdrawn anytime, tax- and penalty-free but earning will be taxable if withdrawn early.

Found the location, and completed the IP 6 digits in the box. However, in checking the final forms, this did not change/revise the Pins in the appropriate boxes in the Federal Tax Information form (Info Wks). I've submitted the revised (ie 6 digit IP) after saving the new info. We'll see if the IRS accepts it now...if not I'll change everything and mail it in instead. Thanks for all your help.

TurboTax does not track qualified expenses for a 529 distribution, so you need to keep your own records of what was paid from the distribution.  If your expenses exceeded the distribution, you don't need to enter a 1099-Q.     However, if you received a 1098-T from the school, you can enter that in the Education section to see if you qualify for an Education Credit, or have taxable scholarship income to report (if Box 5 Scholarships is greater than Box 1 Tuition). The only expenses that qualify in this case are Tuition/Fees and Books/Supplies purchased from the school, which are entered in the 1098-T section.    Here's more info on Form 1098-T.     @jlee3

Form W-2, Box 12, Code W shows HSA contributions made through your employer's payroll (employer and employee contributions). This amount should carry over automatically from Box 12 of your W-2 to the federal Form 8889 (Health Savings Accounts).    Form 1099-SA shows your HSA distributions.   Here is a TurboTax article on HSAs for more information: Basics of Health Savings Accounts

This usually happens because of a checkbox you selected or a form you filled out earlier. TurboTax can get set on a certain path if it thinks you qualify for a specific deduction.   Here are the three most common reasons why this is happening and how to fix it:   1. The "1095-A" Checkbox (Most Likely) If you received health insurance through the Marketplace (Healthcare.gov) and entered a Form 1095-A, there is a screen that asks: "Let us know if these situations apply to you." You likely checked the box that says "I'm self-employed and bought a Marketplace plan." To correct.     Go to Deductions & Credits > Medical > Affordable Care Act (Form 1095-A) Click Edit next to your 1095-A entry.  Continue through the screens until you see the list of "situations." Uncheck the self-employed box 2. Business Income (Schedule C) If you reported any 1099-NEC or 1099-K income, TurboTax treats you as a "Business."   The Culprit: When entering business expenses, you may have clicked on "Insurance" or "Health Insurance Premiums." Even if you didn't enter a dollar amount, the software may now be prompting you to "finish" that section.  The Fix: 1. Go to Wages & Income. 2. Find Self-Employment Income and Expenses. 3. Review your business expenses and look for Health Insurance Premiums. If there is a $0 or a blank entry there, try to delete the entire "Health Insurance" expense category using the trash can icon. 3. K-1 Entry (Partnerships/S-Corps) If you entered a Schedule K-1, check Box 13.   The Culprit: If there is a code (usually Code M) in Box 13, it signals to the software that health insurance was paid by the entity on your behalf, triggering the "Self-Employed Health Insurance" workflow. The Fix: Verify your K-1. If you aren't actually paying for health insurance through that business, ensure Box 13 is corrected or left blank. How to "Force Delete" the Form If the prompt won't go away, you can manually remove the underlying form (usually Form 7206 or the Self-Employed Health Insurance Worksheet): Online Version: In the left-hand menu, click Tax Tools > Tools > Delete a form. Find the Self-Employed Health Insurance worksheet/form and delete it. Desktop Version: Switch to Forms Mode (top right), find the form in the list on the left, and click Delete Form at the bottom.

My mom passed away in July of last year. Her rental property is now held in her trust. I thought I needed to prorate the rental income and expenses between Jan-July 31 and August 1-Dec 31. Is that correct? I can prorate income and expenses, but it won't let me prorate depreciation. If I put in "I used it to July 31st", it thinks I sold the property. If I don't prorate the depreciation, it gives me a false income loss. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

I've placed a pre-construction deposit with a CCRC.  If I cancel the contract or am not accepted due to medical reasons I will receive no interest.  If I enter the community when it's developed the interest will be credited to the purchase price.   I received a 1099 for imputed interest for 2025.   I've read conflicting articles online saying since I'm over age 62 this might be considered a below interest rate loan.  Is there a way to avoid paying taxes for 2025 on this imputed interest?    Thanks!

They can be included on ‌Schedule A.  However, medical expenses are limited. For the 2025 tax year, you can deduct unreimbursed, qualified medical expenses that exceed 7.5% of your adjusted gross income (AGI).  In addition, your medical expenses, along with other deductible items must exceed your Standard deduction.

Why does it state on Turbo Tax that I am not available for employment?
If you go under Tax Tools, Print Center, you can print all the worksheets and find it.  I don't believe this is available until after you pay, but you can access it before filing.

If you received a final K-1, regardless of the reason, you should enter it in TurboTax and mark that it is a final K-1. The best option is to report that the investment was disposed of in a transaction other than a sale. This will avoid answering questions about sale proceeds.
