The “senior deduction” is added automatically by the software based on the date of birth and filing status you entered into MY INFO. You do not need to take any extra steps to enter it. (And…the new senior deduction has nothing to do with whether you are getting Social Security)
The deduction is not on the same line as your standard deduction. It is shown separately on line 13b.
2025 STANDARD DEDUCTION AMOUNTS
SINGLE $15,750 (65 or older/legally blind + $2000)
MARRIED FILING SEPARATELY $15,750 (65 or older/legally blind +1600)
MARRIED FILING JOINTLY $31,500 (65 or older/legally blind + $1600)
HEAD OF HOUSEHOLD $23,625 (65 or older/legally blind + $2000)
For 2025 through 2028 there is an extra deduction amount of up to $6000 per individual 65 or older filing Single, MFJ, or HOH which is phased out for taxpayers with modified adjusted gross income over $75,000 for single filers and $150,000 for joint filers.
(The deduction phases out completely at $175.000 Single or HOH, or $250,000 joint)
The $6,000 senior deduction will be calculated on 1040 Schedule 1-A page 2 Part V Enhanced Deduction for Seniors which goes to 1040 line 13b. It is separate and in addition to the Standard Deduction or your Itemized Deductions on 1040 line 12e. Turbo Tax automatically includes it.

If you are not getting the senior deduction it is because
Your date of birth in MY INFO shows that you were not 65 by the end of 2025
Your income is too high
You are filing married filing separately

Commuting miles are the daily, personal, non-deductible driving distance between an employee’s home and their regular workplace, so if you're a W-2 employee, miles driven for your job are the same as commuting miles. These miles differ from deductible business miles, which include travel between work locations, to temporary sites, or client visits for self-employed individuals.

In TurboTax, you handle these dates in the "My Info" (or Personal Info) section. This is the most critical part of your return because it tells the software which state tax forms to generate.
1. Set Your Residency Status
Go to My Info on the left menu.
Click Edit next to your name.
Find the section titled "State of residence."
Select the state you lived in on December 31, 2025.
Below that, there is a question asking: "I lived in another state in 2025." Check Yes.
Select your previous state from the dropdown menu.
2. Enter the Date of the Move
Once you select "Yes," a box will appear asking for the "Date you moved to [your current state]."
Enter the exact date you officially changed residency (usually the day you physically moved your belongings or started your new lease/job).
3. Allocation (The "Money" Part)
After you finish your Federal return and move to the State tab:
TurboTax will prompt you to complete Part-Year Resident returns for both states.
It will ask you to "Allocate" your income. You will need to tell State A how much you earned while living there, and State B how much you earned after the move.
W-2s: If you changed jobs, this is easy—just assign the specific W-2 to the correct state.
One Job, Two States: If you worked for the same employer in both places, you’ll need to look at your paystubs to split the total income based on your move date.

Don't be. It takes the IRS a few days to debit accounts. The first page of your tax return PDF is the Filing instructions - that page will show the account and amount you have scheduled. It normally takes the IRS a few days to take the payment, but it is effective the date you scheduled it.
From the IRS FAQ page > To verify your payment was processed successfully, check your online tax account two business days after the date you scheduled the payment to be withdrawn from your bank account. Your online tax account will indicate whether a payment attempt was rejected. If the payment is still listed as "Pending," check back after three more business days to see if the payment was returned or reversed. If it was, you can try submitting it again to avoid interest and penalties.
In the event your financial institution releases the funds prior to the date specified in your electronic payment request to the IRS, contact your financial institution for additional information.
You can also check with your bank after two business days to make sure the payment went through. If your bank confirms your payment was processed, but it does not appear in your IRS online account, contact us by phone.
