My uncle passed away after spending 4 years in a nursing home. When he first went in, I got power of attorney which I held until his passing in November of 2024. In 2025, I went to his bank and informed them of his death. He had about $2200 in his checking account. I told them I didn’t know what to do about his account or what would happen to this money. My intent was not to acquire the money but the folks at the bank indicated that since my uncle was never married and never had children, the money could be turned over to me provided I could produce the death certificate and the final funeral bill. Having had POA, I had both of these documents and subsequently the bank released the money to me and closed his account. Do I have to claim this as income on my 2025 Federal taxes? Or as income on my Pennsylvania State return?

Thanks Cesar, this won't work for me though. There are over 8000 entries, it would take all month to edit each one manually. I've searched for every possible method and tried all of them, nothing works. Even clearing everything and starting the whole year's taxes over again didn't work. After getting it all set up again, those CSVs we're still there. This is a major functionality oversight on the part of Intuit that could easily be corrected. Crypto accounting is very complex and Intuit is rapidly falling behind in functionality here. Honestly I'm ready to close my account and go to a different service that handles it better. It's so unfortunate that I've been using TurboTax for so long and all my info is in there already. The last option for me is to call the support line and hope they can delete those CSVs from their end. If you have any other advice or can submit feedback or a request for this simple feature change, it will probably keep thousands of people on the service who will likely otherwise give up on it due to the new strict reporting requirements for crypto and the lack of functionality here.

I was a full year resident in the state of Maryland in 2025. I worked in Philadelphia, PA, and per the reciprocity agreement with MD and PA, I paid MD tax on my earnings. So I don't need to file a PA state return. The city of Philadelphia also charges me a local wage tax as a non-resident. It comes directly out of my paycheck. I believe I can ask for a credit from the state of Maryland for the tax I paid. When filling this out on Turbotax (Deluxe version, on a Mac), I am able to fill this out by claiming that it is tax from the state of PA, and entering the right amounts for the city of Philadelphia (basically: MD's view of the wages on which I was charged tax, and the amount of tax paid). When I check the 502CR I believe this all looks correct. My questions: 1. Does this seem right, i.e., am I able to claim this credit and is this the way to do it? 2. The MD filing instructions say I need to include the tax return of the state in which I paid the tax that I'm claiming as a credit. In this case it's not a state, it's a locality (Philadelphia), and I have no return to include. I just have my W-2. Is including the W-2 sufficient, perhaps with a note? 3. Lastly, will I be able to file electronically to MD, or will the need to include the Phila/PA return block me from doing that?

Thank you for your response. I read the link you sent, and have also read several other articles from the Special Needs Alliance. Some of those articles are what has led me to think that this trust should possibly be a Grantor type trust for tax purposes, rather than a QDT as previously filed, even though it was set up as a special needs trust. I have tax prep background, so prepared the return myself last year according to the way the CPA firm had prepared it in the past - to avoid the expense - but the more I read, the more I'm wondering if it's been done correctly. And it seems like if it were a grantor type trust it would be more beneficial to pass through the income to the beneficiary since the standard deduction/tax rate would be better than the QDT exemption/tax rate. Before I file this year, I'd really like to be sure that we're filing it correctly. And the beneficiary does collect SSDI benefits, she was formerly on SSI when this trust was set up. Thanks in advance for any further thoughts since this is pretty complicated.

I am reporting a parsing bug with the W-2 import tool in TurboTax Online. When I uploaded my W-2, the system skipped Box 12 Code DD and incorrectly assigned the Code DD amount to Box 12 Code W. For example, on my actual W-2: Box 12 Code DD (Employer health coverage) was $12K Box 12 Code W (HSA contribution) was $4K However, TurboTax imported this as: Box 12 Code W: $1K Code DD: Missing entirely This is a critical error. Because it swapped the employer health coverage cost into the HSA contribution box, it made it appear as though I massively overcontributed to my HSA. If I hadn't caught this manually, it could have resulted in incorrect tax calculations and penalties. Once I corrected, my refund grew significantly. I would have lost a lot of money. I manually corrected the entries to proceed with my return, but the development team should look into this OCR bug to prevent it from affecting other users.

No, you should not need to delete or re-import your information from Webull Financial. You can always change the imported 1099-DIV to match your actual Webull statement. If the discrepancy is less than $1 (assuming you meant to put this), then there is nothing to do, you can continue to complete your tax return as is.

If you work as a 1099 independent contractor in 2025, you are generally expected to make quarterly estimated tax payments to cover income and self-employment taxes. Estimated payment due dates for 2025 typically include: 1. April 15, 2025 2. June 17, 2025 3. September 16, 2025 4. January 15, 2026 How much to set aside: Many self-employed taxpayers set aside about 25% to 30% of their income to cover federal taxes, including self-employment tax. TurboTax assistance: TurboTax can help you calculate a more personalized estimated tax amount based on your income, expenses, and deductions during your tax preparation. It guides you in determining how much to pay quarterly to avoid underpayment penalties.
TurboTax also offers a Tax Estimator tool and a Self-Employed Tax Deduction Calculator that help you input income, expenses, and deductions to get a personalized quarterly estimate.

This sounds like another crazy bug in the system, as the directions didn’t say to start with the multiple states choice. Anyway, since I couldn’t wait any longer for your response, I tried deleting the import and importing the 1099-B again. I may have changed the order to US Possessions, then Michigan, then multiple states, but I’m not positive. Whatever I did, the program correctly added the multiple states amount to my Schedule 1 additions.
