Go back through the Social Security questions.   There is a screen asking if you lived in a foreign place.  People have been answering it wrong or skipping it.   And it is for each spouse.   Also check if you ssn is valid for employment under My Info or Personal Info.   That can affect many things.  Needs to be yes.   There should be a box on the worksheet you need to check No you didn’t live in a Foreign country.  I’m not sure where.  If you can’t find it I’ll look for it.
Yes, I'm on Windows, sorry!
I cant even get to that part. I click update info to enter my SS and it says I need to go back and review something. the personal information is all correct.
When I go to enter the income, i hit update and it tells me it has hit an error and to go back and fix something. All the personal info is correct. I can't seem to get passed it
Oh then are they under 19?   If one is under 19 it doesn’t need to know if they are a full time student.   You can claim them.   Only a full time student over 18 and under 24.

TurboTax will ask about student status, depending on the age of the dependent you entered (over 17).  If your dependents are 20 and 18, you should see a box to check in TurboTax Online, and a question in TurboTax Desktop. Make sure you indicate their residence with you, and that you supported them.    If you're using TurboTax Online, clear your Cache and Cookies and re-enter your info, if you believe your results are not correct.   @user17728419973

@probablynotirving , although my copy of TurboTax notes on form 1116 are a bit old -- but the  process is probably pretty much the same  ----  what I see is that   for 4(b)  area , "if the total gross  foreign source income is greater than US$5000,  then the deductible investment interest  will be allocated per govt. instructions.   Therefore it needs the adjusted basis of investment assets generating this category of  foreign income-- thus allowing for a ratiometric allocation. The deductible investment interest comes from Schedule-A  ( itemized deduction).   Does this make sense as to why this is needed ? If you are interested , I can provide instructions on how to get these notes

Why is TurboTax entering a $0 on Line 1b of the Social Security Worksheet signaling that none of my Social Security is taxable through the Foreign Exemption?  It's done this on 3 tax returns so far and we all like domestically.
Thank you, this is super helpful! I've been looking for it for a while 🙂

Yeah like what's the hold up.  Didn't they just get sued last year; they still not complying? Like why wasn't this token care of before... Next year, I'll be filing with someone else after 10 years SMH.  I hope this is resolved soon because Im a loyalcustomer even after they had a lawsuit now they're giving me reasons to switch tax preparers next year. .

If anyone doesn't need a state return (or prepares it elsewhere), the IRS Free File Fillable Forms is open again this year.   It can handle almost all Federal forms.   You have to be comfortable preparing your own tax returns, entering directly on forms and schedules, doing some of your own calculation, and reading IRS instructions when necessary.   You must create a new account each year, and it does NOT save your tax return from year to year.  You have to save it yourself as a PDF only.   After October 16, it shuts down for the year and will not save any tax data.   There is a list of forms it will prepare at the IRS Free File Fillable Forms website (link below.)   I would advise anyone who wants to use it to look over the instructions carefully as well as the Help pages, FAQs, and User Guide.   Since it's free, it doesn't hurt to try.   https://www.irs.gov/e-file-providers/free-file-fillable-forms

Thanks. The business % usage changes each year, so a different % is applied against the total depreciation each year.  That is normal for a vacation rental that gets some personal use.  The previous years, the % was in the range of 80%-85% depending on the year.  in 2025, we used it more so the % dropped to 62.02%. If there was an error in a previous year, TT makes no mention of it.    To me it seems like TT is making an error or making an incorrect assumption, but I don't know how to fix it.  If I checked a wrong box on a question somehow this year or in the past, I certainly can't tell what it is.  It's not a huge amount of money but I worry the error will get bigger next year if not figured out.  I'm frustrated with turbotax right now.

Was the rejected efile a Joint return?   To file MFS you need to setup a new account and not transfer from 2024.  But Joint should be be better.   Here's some general info on getting married.  Did you both use Turbo Tax last year?   You can not transfer from or combine 2 returns or accounts.  Just pick the return for the spouse that has the most complicated return to enter or has any depreciation or business or  more investments.  Or use the account for whoever you want to be listed first going forward (by the way you can not change the order of the names).  Then add the other spouse's name, ssn and info to it.   You should usually  file a Joint return which is only 1 return combined for the both of you.  Make sure to stick with this one account for the future.  Just ignore the other spouse's account.   Getting Married FAQ https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/tax-filing-status/help/what-does-getting-married-mean-for-my-taxes/00/1756642   AND JOINT VS MFS  Joint is almost always better.  Here's some things to consider about filing separately……   In the first place you each have to file a separate return, so that's two returns.  And if you are using the Online version that means using 2 accounts and paying the fees twice.  The Desktop CD/Download program would be better to use.   Many people think they come out better when filing Married Filing Separate but they are probably doing it wrong.  If one person itemizes deductions on Schedule A then the other one must itemize too, even if it's less than the standard deduction, even if it is ZERO!  And if you are in a Community Property state it can be complicated to figure out.   And there are several credits you can't take when filing separately, like the EITC Earned Income Tax Credit Child Care Credit Educational Deductions and Credits   And contributions to IRA and ROTH IRA are limited when you file MFS.   Also if you file Married Filing Separately up to 85`% of your Social Security becomes taxable right away even with zero other income.   See ……. https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/married/help/is-it-better-for-a-married-couple-to-file-jointly-or-separately/00/25590   Married filing Separate in Community Property States.   If you are in a Community Property state it can be complicated to figure out. https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/taxation/married-filing-separately-community-property/L11CeLUMs_US_en_US
