@Phishman wrote: The kids were with me more than with her. I have ways of proving it. When you say they will process both returns do you mean we both would get a return then they investigate and whoever they find shouldn’t of claimed them they require it to be paid back? Correct.  When there is a conflicting dependent claim, the IRS will process both tax returns and pay any claimed refund.  Then, usually 6-9 months later, both taxpayers will get letters asking them for more information.  Eventually, the IRS will rule on who was allowed to claim the dependent(s), and the other taxpayer will be assessed tax, interest, and late payment fees retroactive to the original April 15 filing deadline.     So even if your ex files first and claims the children (which will block you from e-filing), you can still print your return and file by mail, and you should expect to get your claimed refund, with an investigation later.

I’m seeing the TurboTax Expert Full Service promo: “Your situation, just $150… must file by 2/28 to get this price.” What exactly counts as “file” for the promo? Does my return need to be e-filed + IRS accepted by 2/28, or just submitted to the expert / ready to file by 2/28? If I’m waiting on brokerage consolidated 1099s (Fidelity taxable and E*TRADE RSU/ESPP sales), and those arrive close to late Feb / early March, do I lose the promo price even if I started Full Service already? If I file by 2/28 and later receive a corrected 1099, is an amended return included in Full Service or extra? Thanks!

Churn for churn's sake never leads to good software design, no matter how many code-monkeys you have banging away at keyboards.  Perhaps M$ has too many code-monkeys employed?  Then let them start right there with their cost-cutting measures.  But please, give us no more "new features", just fix some of the bugs and make it more secure.   Also, I don't want planned obsolescence for anything I own, and I don't expect it for any software I use (or "license").  And even if their Windows planned obsolescence "software lifecycle" never stops, I will never stop complaining about it.

I guess I should have mentioned that I meant the Form 568 for an SMLCC.

Did you click that big orange button that said “Transmit my return now?”  If you did that, you cannot do anything to fix it yet.  You have to wait for the email that tells you if your return was accepted or rejected.   Since the IRS will not begin to accept/reject returns until January 26, you are going to be waiting in “pending” for awhile.  Your return is sitting on a server, where you cannot fix  it or get it back.   You cannot change or add anything on the return that you just e-filed, nor can you stop it.  It is too late, just like when you put an envelope in a US mailbox on the corner.  The IRS does not allow you to take it back.   If you left out a W-2, a 1099G, or a dependent, or a 1099 etc…DO NOT change your return while it is “pending.”  The changes will go nowhere.   Now you have to wait until the IRS either rejects or accepts your return.  If your return is rejected, you will be able to go into your account and make the necessary changes to your tax return and re-submit your return.     If the IRS accepts your return, however, then you have to wait longer until it has been fully processed and you have received your refund.  THEN you can prepare an amended tax return and e-file or mail  it in. You have to be able to work from that return exactly the way it was when it was e-filed originally.  You will need to use a form called a 1040X.     Meanwhile, DO NOT go in and start changing anything on your return in the system, or you will make a mess for yourself.  Sit tight and wait until you see what the IRS does with the return you just e-filed   The Form 1040X you need becomes available in late February,  But wait until your return has been processed.

I expect that whoever managed your work laptop enforced some of the GPOs which I mentioned earlier that O&O ShutUp 10++ uses to turn off the ad nonsense.   As to Windows 11 Home edition, I just used Oracle VirtualBox to spin up a brand new VM completely automatically (VirtualBox is awesome :^)  After waiting several minutes for the Desktop to appear and all the default apps to get provisioned, I see this when I click in the Search box on the taskbar (or click on the Start menu icon and then click the Search box from there: And this when I scroll the pane on the right of this so-called "Start menu": And this when I click on the Weather widget hover over the Widgets icon on the left end of the Taskbar: The content in the right-hand pane of the Weather widget Widgets window seems to go on forever.  I haven't yet been able to scroll to the very bottom of it, if there is one (it's "turtles all the way down" :@)  But at least M$ got its "ad impressions" while tried to do that.  🙄   (Edited to correct the name of the Widgets icon on the left-hand side of the Taskbar.  Just sitting by itself it defaults to local Weather info, but on mouse-hover there's an endless stream of mesmerizing "stuff".  Don't think I've never seen so many ads all collected in one place!)

Maybe you are looking at the additional Child Tax Credit?  The Child Tax Credit is on 1040 line 19 and the additional credit is on line28.   The Child Tax Credit can be worth up to $2,200 per qualifying child for the 2025 tax year.  Are you children showing up as dependents?   There are a couple questions you could have answered wrong under My Info.  Click on My Info then click Edit by Dependents, then click Edit by their name and go though all the screens again.   A common mistake is this one…the one that says did your CHILD pay more than half of their support.  It's not asking if you did.   If you can't get it to change then try completely deleting them and re-entering them.  Sometimes that helps to clear something out.
Yes it is automatically saved each entry you make.   Just log out.  Then log back into the same account.
Are you saying that even though they would be added to my inventory, it would not effect its year-end value?
You can’t use a paystub.   You need the actual W2 from the employer.   They have until Feb 2 to give it to you.   Ask the employer.   Check if they have the right address for you.
i need to come back with some forms tomorrow how can i make sure all of this work up til now is saved
