It clearly was a business decision based, almost certainly, on resources being spent on a money-losing and under-utilized product. Intuit is in business to make a profit and has a duty to its shareholders to do so.

@Opus 17 wrote: I am not aware that a state court order terminating parental rights has any effect on the determination of qualifying child dependent under federal law. I would appreciate references if you have them. I am curious if you know of other cases. I don't have any citations. However, Federal VERY often starts off with how State law treats things. For example, marriages and divorces are a state thing. Birth certificates, driver's licenses, etc. are a state thing. How a title is held and Community property is a state thing. For MANY things, federal starts with how State law treats it. I could be wrong, but I can't think of why federal wouldn't follow the state treatment in this circumstance.

Yes you will need to use Online Premium. It has all the same forms as the Desktop programs including Premier. Be sure to have the 2024 return file ending in .tax2024 on your computer so you can transfer it into the online version next year. If you used the Desktop program before you may notice several differences and not like the online version. It has less features and no Forms Mode. And you will have to pay first to see all the forms. All the Online versions do not have the same forms so you may need to upgrade to a higher version. You can only do 1 return per account. And pay for each account. You can use the same email for 5 accounts. Federal and state are separate fees. Your return is only saved online so be sure to save both the .tax2025 data file and the pdf file to your computer when you are done. In case you need to amend in the future or if you need a copy to get a loan or something. You might not be able to access your online return when you need a copy.

Due to windows 10 issue I must go from always using desk6top TT Premier to online Premium. Does Premium have all the necessary forms that the desktop Premier (eg capital gains; foreign tax credit, schedule K-1, etc) supports or shall I look elsewhere for tax software for tax year 2025?

Precisely! I think this was an unconscionable thing to do. No reason given. No work around given. No real apology given. Just saying it'll be gone on October 21st. I would still hate the action they took, but if they had at least waited until the TurboTax 2025 had come out, I would accept it because it worked seamlessly before. This just makes them look like a bad business to deal with. I'd like to see an apology that really looks like an apology along with concrete work-around information. (Or maybe it conflicts with the Big Beautiful Bill?????)

If you have the desktop TurboTax software for 2024 you can use the What-If Worksheet in forms mode to estimate your 2025 tax. Check the box at the top of column 2, 3, or 4 to use 2025 tax rates.

done deals - MS ended life of Win 10 as planned, Intuit released their min system specs for Win 11 as expected and also canned ItsDeductible as promised. As we've been discussing on all the other threads for 2 months they really have no reason to reverse course for a decision impacting less than 1% of their revenues and small % of their user base.

it's a mystery why they would shut this down and risk losing these zero revenue customers
