I purchased 3 TurboTax CDs (accidentally, I meant to purchase just one) from AMAZON.  When I downloaded it, I ran into some problems so I called the support number on the CD. The guy shared my screen (giving him access to my computer) RED FLAG which seemed odd, he showed me that I had trojans in my computer and that i was unprotected from Trojans. He offered to help me, but he wasn't as knowledgeable as his friend, so he transferred me to another guy who offered me with 3 options of protection of 3 yrs for$399 6 yrs $799 and unlimited for $1299. I then started seeing RED flags. I told him that I thought TurboTax never asked for money. He said he wasn't with TurboTax that I was transferred to We Assist that works with other Tax companies. I told him I wasn't interested, and he started being pushy, so I disconnected. He has called me twice a week since then. I had a friend look at my computer and these people blocked TurboTax from my computer so, I was glad to hear they no longer offer the CD. Lesson learned: ALWAYS MAKE YOUR PURCHASES THRU TURBOTAX.

I guess I was just assuming that since all the information I gave pertain to when I moved out the last year I live there, this was stated several times. I thought in the first thread I did say I moved out two years ago if I didn't my bad but anyway it doesn't matter if it's 2024 or 2023 tax return it matters the fact that I lived there that during that time yeah I took care of my family. so in that matter I'm sorry I got frustrated but what would you do you? Just leave it alone and let the government keep the money or  amend  the return and see what happens. I understand all the tax jargon and about the 8332 form and all this other stuff I get all that but I also understand that I've never had to use it before so without bringing all that jargon into the equivalent answer for my question is there not any way to check on a on a social security number, to see if somebody's been claiming that social security number, Maybe not even with the IRS maybe there's somewhere else that you can go and  put in your own social security number and see if somebody's claiming you I just kind of feel like everybody's trying to not answer the question the actual question. All this why I can't claim them. I've already worked out that legally I can claim them I have done this many times just have never run into this exact situation

Oh, and the Business Code is not from your payer and doesn't apply to them.  It is a code for your activity.   Depends on what they are paying you for.   The people or company that pays you is your customer or client. You need to fill out schedule C for self employment business income. You are considered to have your own business for it. YOU are the business.

Consider a person who is 50 years old, US citizen, no dependents and living in Florida. Since he is single he cannot get Medicaid. Let say his AGI is $10,000. That is below the Federal Poverty Line or FPL . I claim that he can still get an insurance subsidy through the ACA. That is consistent with what I am seeing with Turbo Tax.   However, if I change his address to New Jersey, I claim that he is eligible for Medicaid and not eligible for a subsidy. Since the data entered into Turbo Tax included a subsidy, he should have to pay that back. As such, that should significantly increase is adjustment due. It did not. Am I missing something? Does it matter if he made a good faith estimate that his income would be over the FPL?

Just called Schwab (kudos to them working on a Sat.) and they said they don't support previous year's import, at least not after the October extension filing deadline.  They person did not sound very technically-savvy but at least we have a confirmation that it's not supposed to work with Schwab.
Do you have a question?  It wasn't clear.

I purchased the 2023 TurboTax Deluxe download and after entering activation code. When I select operating system, I select PC/Windows (in red it says please select operating system) and MAC is the only option available, specified Windows when ordering. Both MAC and PC are delivered, and I downloaded the Windows option.
No need to guess or waste time trying to import past year data.   You cannot do it.  Period.   Data for 2022 has to be entered by hand.

You don't go directly to a 1040X.  You do the amending process.     If your first return was efiled and Accepted or you mailed it, then you need to do an Amended tax return to correct or add new info. You need to wait for the original return to be fully processed and you get the first refund or paid the tax due. Then you can Amend. Be sure to save a copy of your original return before you start the amended return. The Amended return will overwrite the original return. How to Amend the current year https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-return/amend-federal-tax-return-current-year/L7eS6o1qh_US_en_US?uid=lfunevhk   If you don't see a button for Need to Amend a Filed Return? on your home screen then you can get to it here. Go to: Federal Taxes -or- Personal (for H&B) Other Tax Situations last section, Other Tax Forms Amend A Return - Click the Start or Update button

Wait until your original return has been fully processed before you amend, and make sure you have saved a pdf of the original return before you amend. (If you do not save it as a pdf, the amended return will overwrite the original, and the original will be lost forever)     See this TurboTax support FAQ for amending a tax return -   CURRENT YEAR https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-return/amend-federal-tax-return-current-year/L7eS6o1qh_US_en_US?uid=lfunevhk   Do not expect quick results from amending. It can take four months or more for the IRS to process an amended return.     You can watch for information here: https://www.irs.gov/Filing/Individuals/Amended-Returns-(Form-1040-X)/Wheres-My-Amended-Return-1

Note that my old TDA Tax statements dating back to 2015 (9 years ago) are all accessible in PDF format on Charles Schwab's website.  Storage space doesn't seem to be a concern for them -- thus that led me to thinking that the information for import, which is essentially the same as what's in the PDFs, has not been purged (at least not for space reasons). The consolidated 1099 forms are identified by a (unique) Document ID. And I could no longer retrieve this old one via Turbotax import (IIRC, I did succeed doing this before in a prior year).   I use  the Windows desktop version of TT, and I also tried turning off the Defender Firewall as suggested in https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/taxes/discussion/tdameritrade-1099-import-issues/00/3544581 but that didn't work for me.  Please give it a try if you also use Windows.   Wonder if anyone has the "official word" from either Intuit or TD Ameritrade/Schwab stating whether this should work for prior years or not, so that we don't have to keep guessing or waste time trying?

That's not exactly true. I remember that I did this import for a previous year's 1099s in the past without issues.  But since the merger with Schwab, this doesn't seem to work anymore.

Because taking the withdrawal may push you into a higher tax bracket when you add it to your total income.  You will get a 1099R at the end of the year to enter into your return.  The Gross amount shows up on 1040 line 5a and the taxable amount on 5b. The withholding will show up on 1040 line 25b. It has to break out and show the 10% penalty separately on your return (schedule 2 line 8 which goes to 1040 line 23). Then you get credit for all the withholding taken out on 1040 line 25b.   Now what about a IRA?  You have 60 days to roll over some of it to a IRA.   That will reduce the tax on it so if the withholding was on the full amount you may get a refund on your tax return.  When you enter the 1099R it will ask what you did with it.  You can enter the amount you rolled over to IRA.
