Once your return is filed, TurboTax has no control over the processing or the timing when the IRS releases your refund.    Your refund could be offset. The IRS and State Governments have the ability to offset a refund to pay for certain past due debts.  You generally will receive a letter stating what the offset was for.    The IRS provides a toll-free number, (800) 304-3107, to call for information about tax offsets.   Here are a few FAQs to help you track your refund: When will I get my federal tax refund? How do I track my state refund? Why does Where's My Refund say "approved" but TurboTax still says "accepted"? Why do some refunds take longer than others? What if my IRS refund is taking longer than 21 days?

Without being able to compare your return from last year to this year, it is hard to say for sure, but a lower-than-expected refund is typically caused by shifts in income, credit eligibility changes, or more accurate tax withholding throughout the year.   Another reason may be due to The Earned Income Tax Credit. The EITC is highly sensitive to your Adjusted Gross Income (AGI). The amount of your AGI can either increase or decrease your EITC.     Also, if your employer withheld less tax from your paychecks throughout 2025, you received that money "upfront" in your take-home pay rather than waiting for it as a large lump sum refund.   To see exactly where the money went, compare your 2024 and 2025 returns: Select Tax Tools > Tools from the left menu. Select View Tax Summary. Compare the following lines to your 2024 return: Total Income: Did your earnings increase? Total Credits: Is this significantly lower than last year? (Check Schedule 3 and Form 8812). Total Payments/Withholding: Did you pay in less through your employer?

Did you mark your return as someone is claiming you?   If a dependent mistakenly indicated no one can claim them and causes a rejection of the parent's return, the IRS now allows the first-listed (primary) taxpayer (such as the parent) to get an IP PIN and still successfully efile and avoid having to file a return on paper.   Your dependent will need to amend their return to indicate someone else is claiming them. See this TurboTax FAQ for help with amending.   The IP Pin will change each and every year. This is an Identity Protection Pin.      You can get an Identity Protection pin here, or if you lost your IP PIN, you can go here to Retrieve IP PIN.    Here are two ways to navigate to the section to enter the 6 digit IP PIN:     Log in and open your return ("Take me to my return") Once the return is open, then go to the Federal Taxes tab. Subtab Other Tax Situations Scroll down to Other Return Info. Choose Identity Protection PIN and Start (or Revisit.) Next screen asks:  "Did you or any of your dependents get an IP PIN from the IRS for this year's taxes?" Or another way:  Open your return if not already open.  ("Take me to my return.") Once the return is open, click at the top on MY ACCOUNT, then choose TOOLS. In the Tools window choose TOPIC SEARCH. Enter IP PIN without quotes. In the selection list highlight IP PIN and click GO. Next screen asks:  "Did you or any of your dependents get an IP PIN from the IRS for this year's taxes?" There is a new procedure the IRS started last year for TY2024. It allows returns that claim dependents who have already been claimed on another taxpayer’s return to be efiled.   Since your son already claimed himself, your return is getting rejected. You can get an Identity Protection Personal Identification Number (IP PIN) for him, enter this on your return and re-file electronically.   Here are some good references: IR-2024-294 Age, name or SSN rejects, errors, correction procedures Protect Yourself From Tax-Related Identity Theft: Get an Identity Protection PIN

The senior deduction gets added to your standard deduction.  If you do not see it reflected on your return it is likely you do not qualify for the deduction.     For individuals, the deduction begins to phase out when your income reaches $75,000.  If your income is $175,000 or higher, you won’t qualify.   For married filing jointly, the deduction begins to phase out when your income reaches $150,000. If your income is $250,000 or higher, you won’t qualify. To claim this in TurboTax:   Go to the deduction selection screen. Choose either the standard deduction or itemizing your deductions. TurboTax will claim this deduction for you if you qualify. What's the new tax law for the senior deduction?

I'm in agreement, TurboTax does suck. Later year, I paid $36 for Deluxe edition. My tax situation didn't change for this years 2025 return. Forced to pay $129 (after a $10 discount for submitting on 3-31-2026) for Premium. And, I just checked my payment to the IRS status, and it failed.  Indicating incorrect Banking information that I filled out on the form. Good thing I checked! wtf? I'm just going to use them anymore and if I'm penalized for making payment one day late, it'll be on!

I am assuming you are talking about state credits for home heating and property tax.  Which state?     You do not need to file a federal tax return for her since she only gets SSI.  She would not have any taxable income and would not be eligible for any type of tax refund (assuming she has nothing withheld) as there are no credits available for someone without taxable income at this time.
