An extension does not give you extra time to pay your estimated tax due—-which must be paid by April 15, 2026. An extension gives you extra time to prepare your tax return. You have until October 15 to e-file it.

If you have already e-filed, your return is "locked" to prevent accidental changes while the state reviews it. To look at your allocation details, follow the steps based on your current status:
If your return is "Pending" or "Accepted" - You cannot "edit" the return, but you can view the data
Sign in to TurboTax and scroll down to your Tax Home.
Click on Add a State (don't worry, you aren't actually adding one; this is just a "back door" to re-open the return).
Once the return is open, select State Taxes from the left menu.
Click Continue or Revisit next to your non-resident state to walk through the allocation screens again.
Do not change any numbers. If you find an error, you must Amend the return once it is fully processed.
The most accurate way to check allocation is to look at the state-specific form (like NY IT-203 or CA 540NR:(
Go to Tax Tools on the left menu, then select Print Center.
Click Print, save or preview this year's return.
Choose to Include government and TurboTax worksheets.
Open the PDF and look for the Non-resident/Part-year Allocation Worksheet. This will show exactly what income was "sourced" to that state

Your state return cannot be accepted unless the IRS accepts your federal return.
You received an email that we cannot see that tells you why your tax return was rejected.
Some rejected returns can be fixed and re-filed. Some have “un-fixable” reasons for the rejection and have to be mailed instead.
What is the rejection code or rejection message?
If it was rejected for AGI—-your 2024 AGI might not be in the IRS system if you filed late. Try using zero instead.
If filing with zero is rejected then file again but select the option that you did not file last year. The IRS does not see that question and it will allow you to e-file with no AGI question.

If that does not work and you still cannot e-file, then print, sign, and mail your tax return.

Suggestion did not work. This is the 2nd year in a row that turbo tax programming forces a review that will never allow taxes to be submitted. The form will not allow the 0.00 in column B "lowest cost silver." I should be able to bypass turbotax programming errors and efile, but you force your errors on people. I researched "fixes" of which I have found none. This is a waste of money. This is a waste of money and time. This is rediculous that this is a program that is allowed to function so poorly, regardless of my timing, I should be able to count on what I purchase. 2 years nonfunctional! I tried correcting it on the full page, the review 5x and again on the full page. I wish you had my son as a programmer, this would not have happened!

The “senior deduction” is added automatically by the software based on the date of birth and filing status you entered into MY INFO. You do not need to take any extra steps to enter it. (And…the new senior deduction has nothing to do with whether you are getting Social Security)
The deduction is not on the same line as your standard deduction. It is shown separately on line 13b.
2025 STANDARD DEDUCTION AMOUNTS
SINGLE $15,750 (65 or older/legally blind + $2000)
MARRIED FILING SEPARATELY $15,750 (65 or older/legally blind +1600)
MARRIED FILING JOINTLY $31,500 (65 or older/legally blind + $1600)
HEAD OF HOUSEHOLD $23,625 (65 or older/legally blind + $2000)
For 2025 through 2028 there is an extra deduction amount of up to $6000 per individual 65 or older filing Single, MFJ, or HOH which is phased out for taxpayers with modified adjusted gross income over $75,000 for single filers and $150,000 for joint filers.
(The deduction phases out completely at $175.000 Single or HOH, or $250,000 joint)
The $6,000 senior deduction will be calculated on 1040 Schedule 1-A page 2 Part V Enhanced Deduction for Seniors which goes to 1040 line 13b. It is separate and in addition to the Standard Deduction or your Itemized Deductions on 1040 line 12e. Turbo Tax automatically includes it.

If you are not getting the senior deduction it is because
Your date of birth in MY INFO shows that you were not 65 by the end of 2025
Your income is too high
You are filing married filing separately
