So, having $94 on Line 2 won't look like a new 2025 excess contribution? I'm already at my limit for 2025.

In fact TurboTax version of California form 3840 side 2 has many errors: 1) For part 1 it places the 'OR' between the property description and address instead of between the address and parcel number 2) For part 1 it requires check boxes for all A/B/C even though there may be less than 3 properties 3) For part 2 all the properties are labelled as 'B' 4) For part 2 it again requires checkboxes for all three properties even though there could be less than 3 5) And as mentioned before, there is error checking enforcing Part III line 10 matches Part II line 8 which isn't necessarily the case if there are multiple copies of the form.

Line 29 of Part III of Form 2441 is specifically the one calculation and statement that is, quite simply, incorrect.  Please re-read the tax code on this item to convince yourselves beyond a shadow of doubt.  I am not a programmer with access to source code, so I can't fix it for you, but I can personally override the end result of the worksheet and file my taxes correctly.    I recommend everyone review this carefully and ensure you qualify for the same.  Just go into View: Forms, go to Form 2441, and hand edit Line 29 (right click, Override) to the correct positive value of "your qualified expenses minus your FSA" (i.e., likely $3,000 or more for a single qualifying child) and everything appears to flow out fine.  I bopped back to View Step-by-Step and got the happy green +$600 animation like I expected.  Good luck out there, and don't be afraid to go to irs.gov and read things for yourselves!    Dr. Dan.

I am in a situation similar to the one described in this post from 7 years ago: I created substitute 1099-R for a pension I received from a foreign payer that doesn't have a payer's TIN.  TurboTax Deluxe 2025 SmartCheck passes if I put in the payer's TIN 99-9999999 or leave it blank.   However, I am afraid that upon transmission, the IRS itself will reject my filing due to this field only.   I am aware of the suggested workaround to report the foreign pension income as "Miscellaneous Income" but I prefer retaining its correct characterization/classification. Since 7 years went by since this was an issue, has this issue been rectified? Can I now safely e-file with my substitute 1099-R having the payer's TIN field blank or 99-9999999? Note that as far as form 4852 is concerned, the IRS allows leaving this field blank ("if known"):

System has added my entire income from 2025 into state tax form. I am only to enter the portion I made in that state onto form? How to change?

Hi TurboTax professionals and technical support team,  I have found an error in your worksheet that calculates the removal of FSA funds from your total expenses. The error is in Form 2441 Part II in the TurboTax Home & Business desktop 2025 edition.  The 2024 did not have the mistake.  The calculation mistake you are making is that if the taxpayer is claiming any FSA expenditures, you wipe out the available Child Care Credit from the FSA expenditures.  For example, if someone has $8,000 in qualifying child care expenditures and has a $5,000 FSA, your worksheet says "$3,000 is less than $5,000, so you don't qualify for the Child Care Credit".  This is not in accordance with the Internal Revenue Service.  What SHOULD happen is that the $5,000 is removed from the $8,000 of qualified expenses FIRST, leaving $3,000 of qualified expenses left.  THEN you apply the formula and, voila, 0.2 (or whatever) x $3,000 give you the $600 credit that every IRS website and calculator says you deserve in accordance with tax law.  There are even specific examples similar to this on irs.gov that clearly show that your worksheet is not operating correctly.   This should be fixed ASAP.  Just roll it back to the 2024 worksheet and it will be fine, then find the employee who changed it and give them a reprimand for their HR file.   Dr. Dan.

Hi. I’d like to know if and how I can utilize the AOTC tax loophole. My child has $8760 in earned income from a job. On the 1098T $38578 is in box 1 and 45063 in box 5. Box 7 and 8 are checked. She has a school awarded scholarship that is “the value of tuition.” The school supplied a transaction history on the 1098T. The amount in box 1 is the amount of tuition and  $1000 in fees. The amount for scholarships in box 5 is correct. The payments for books ($360) posted on the transaction history are not included in the box 1 number. (The rest of the transaction history supplied on 1098T has refunds, her web payments, and scholarships listed as being for box 1 but they actually don’t add up to what’s in box 1.  It totals 42000 in payments. I can only guess this is probably  because of posts that occurred after the fall 2024? into her account ) . Given this information, what can I do to maximize our parent AOTC , or is it even advised? should she still be claimed as a dependent? What do I do, if anything, about this transaction history that reads like gobble-**bleep**? Or does it even matter since, I can tell that box 1 only has the tuition and fees?  Lastly if I can maximize this return, is it advisable to do an amended tax return for the prior years that were also very much like this one? Those I just basically left the scholarships as tax free, claimed the books paid for AOTC and she paid the tax on the “excess scholarships.” Thanks!

@ ecthalmann wrote:  my returns are completed but I can not access Tax Tools to print a page summary of my returns for 2025?  Can I get my tax returns summary sheet?    You said "completed", but I don't know if that means you've also paid and filed.   In any case, hopefully the following will work for you.   If you haven't yet paid for your product, it will ask you to do so during the process.   When you follow my steps below, you should be able to get a larger PDF with the return and all the worksheets including the Tax Summary pages and other reports.   To get the larger PDF with the worksheets you have to open your return back up and go to the Print Center as I'll explain in detail below.   NOTE:  When you open your return back up, do not make any changes in it if it's already been filed.  If it has already been filed, and if you later have to amend the return, it has to start off exactly as it was when it was originally filed.   Log in, and at the Tax Home scroll down near "Your Tax Returns & Documents" for 2025, look for a link/button "Add a State." Click on "Add a State."  (You don't really add one; that's just to open your return back up.) After the return interview is open, then you should have a full left-column menu.  Click in the left menu column on the tab TAX TOOLS, then PRINT CENTER. Then choose "Print, save, view this year's return." If you haven't yet paid for your product, it will ask you to do so.  You will need to pay by credit/debit card.  You cannot use the "pay out of refund" method. If you have already paid for your product previously,  you won't be asked the payment question. The next screen should ask what you want in your PDF:  Federal. state, or both (I always save both--just in case) and offer some options:  "Just my tax returns", or "include government worksheets (optional)", or "include government and TurboTax worksheets (optional.)"  The latter has the most pages. NOTE:  Remember all PDF tax documents and tax data files are very sensitive files, since they contain your personal ID info, financial data, and possibly bank account numbers, etc.  Be sure to store them safely and securely to guard against computer theft, hacking, etc.
My claim was rejected because apparently the IRS thinks someone I am filing for has a market place plan, but I was covered under an employer for the duration of 2025. I only have a 1095-C and B

Are you reaching a roadblock when you try to do the transfer?   TurboTax refers to it as "transferring" rather than "importing."   There is a known issue for Mac desktop users with transferring the *.tax2024 data file into a 2025 return, but it is usually a simple workaround.     Hopefully, you have saved and can access the *.tax2024 data file from last year.  Here are some things to try.   See if one works for you.   First, make sure the 2024 data file is not password-protected/encrypted in the keychain. Then close TurboTax completely.   Then re-launch it, and try the transfer again.  For some Mac users, that simple maneuver has solved it. Or Close TurboTax completely and restart your computer.  Relaunch TurboTax and try the transfer again. Or Try to open the *.tax2024 data file with the 2025 program.  It may say something like "This is not a 2025 data file, do you want to transfer instead?"
