The loss of Its Deductible is unexpected and disapppointing. Curious why Turbotax would develop and promote a tool that many found useful, keep it for many years, and then remove from the package without notifying its customers. This strikes me as deceitful. What's next to go, Schedule A?

Thanks @VolvoGirl . Coincidentally between my post and yours I tried what you suggested. When I opened TT 2024 it wanted me to begin a new return. When I went to File->Open Recent it had the 2024 return listed in the menu, but when I select it TT gave a File Not Found error. So it knew there was a 2024 version it had worked on, but the file itself was not there.

Such as; What version of TurboTax are you using? Did you get an error message? Did TurboTax ask you to update? When you say validate, do you mean update? If not, what do you mean by validate? How far are you in the e-file process? What step?

Hi there, Has anyone had experience with using Publication 915 Lump-Sum Election Method for taxable social security benefits? I am using the desktop version Turbo Tax 2025 and could not figure out how to elect this method. Turbo Tax always uses Form 1040 Social Security Benefits Worksheet. What I found is for the same information, Turbo Tax and H&R Block give significant taxable social security benefits. Thanks in advance. JJ

If you need to download a state product in TurboTax you can open your federal return, select the State Taxes tab, and click Add a State (or "Download State" in the menu bar for Mac). Follow the on-screen prompts to download, install, and update the state software.
If you need a second state, you can purchase it directly through the "Add a State" feature.
If the download fails, make sure your software is fully updated. Try running the program as an administrator (Windows).
Use the 2025 TTCleanStatesTool to fix installation issues.
Click here for State install/e-file update loop: State not installed after installation or TurboTax needs to update prior to e-file.

The Feb updates fixed the majority of asset errors, but I still have 2 assets (from 2014 and 2004) with the same special depreciation bug. Does anyone else have this issue on an 1120-S?

@ ppppaattttt TurboTax has a 60-day satisfaction guarantee for the desktop software no matter where you purchased, as long as it was an authorized retailer (and Costco is such.) Here is the online refund request information: https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/intuit-refunds/request-refund-turbotax-product/L834M6uyW_US_en_US and https://accounts.intuit.com/app/oirr It is also possible to use your desktop purchase to move to Online TurboTax Premium Edition for a free (i.e., no additional cost) Federal return and free State return with no efile fee. But Online version has more limited features than desktop. It has no Forms Mode and can only prepare 1 Federal return per online account. We can tell you more about the Online product and any limitations if you are thinking about that option. To make the switch you have to start the desktop installation, and once it recognizes you are using Windows 10, you should receive a screen with the offer. The fix for this issue is usually done in the step-by-step interview.
Click on the Federal tab and select My Info (or Personal Info).
Go through all of your screens and review your address, filing status, and personal details.
Make sure that in the section where it asks if you can be claimed as a dependent, the correct "No" box is checked.
Check for any invalid characters in your name or address (Such as a period in a middle initial). Delete and re-enter to try to clear any error or spaces in a data field.
Re-run your state review/final check after updating this.
If the above doesn't work, the data in your state return might be corrupted or something is stuck. Delete your state return and re-enter it.
Also, try these steps:
Clear your cache and cookies. Click here for How to clear your cache. Click here for How do I delete cookies?
Try a different Web browser, such as Chrome or Firefox.
If you are using a VPN, disable it.
Make sure your internet connection is strong and stable
Try using incognito mode

This is stupid and the programmers at Intuit need to fix this. I have an account at an institution and my spouse has a separate account at the same institution. We get separate 1099-INTs. There should be an option at import to "Add" or "Remove and Import". Instead the only options are to "Remove and Import" or "Cancel". Unbelievable that you think this is a "one-off" case. Come on Intuit.

My Mom passed away December 30, 2025. I have entered all the data and am reviewing her final 1040 paperwork before e-filing. I previously submitted an IRS Form 56 in person so that I can act on her behalf. They took a copy of the death certificate and certificate of trust. When using turbotax I entered the info that triggered the "Deceased and date of death" entry into the 1040. And I entered my name as the "In Care Of" person to act on her behalf. But when reviewing her filing packet prior to hitting "send" I don't see anything on the paperwork where I am signing for her. In fact, the last thing being asked is for her to sign the return. Minh-T1 posted some useful info but following his thread was a dead end for me. I'm a little reluctant to submit a tax return as if I'm signing for a dead person, as the dead person. Seems like that would be a guaranteed audit flag, but TurboTax doesn't have a prompt saying "Chill, on the next page you will be signing on her behalf." It just keeps prompting me to work my way closer and closer to the abyss and before I know it I've filed as her.

It's hard to say why you're getting different results with such limited information. Do you know if you both added a separate asset for the land, that is not depreciated?
Do you have your depreciation reports for the rental property. If not, I suggest you get them from the CPA that helped you previously. Take the information in the depreciation report and use it to adjust your rental property's Asset Worksheet in Forms mode. If you enter the same cost basis, same date placed in service, and same accumulated depreciation in your Asset Worksheet that is on the Depreciation report then you should have the same depreciation expense.
As for not being able to take the loss, is your AGI above $100,000. Taxpayers can deduct up to $25,000 in rental losses against ordinary income if their Modified Adjusted Gross Income (MAGI) is $100,000 or less, with the deduction phasing out entirely by $150,000. For more information see the following TurboTax article: Rental Real Estate and Taxes
