Do you have an amount in line 6b?   If you do not have anything on line 6b ----go back to the screen that comes immediately after the SSA1099 entry screen.   That screen asks if you lived in certain foreign countries in 2025.  If you skip past that screen or answer incorrectly, your Social Security is not taxed correctly, and you end up getting a letter from the IRS and a reduced refund.

Follow these steps:   Go to Deductions & Credits Go to Education expenses and Scholarships Answer the "Did you have educations expenses?" question. Select the student to whom the education expenses apply to. Answer whether or not you are working toward a degree. Note: if you are not working toward a degree, you won't qualify for the AOTC. Next screen, Select any of the boxes that apply to you. The next screen is likely what you are referring to.  Here you will indicate that you have claimed the AOTC before. Next screen indicate if you are a full-time, at least half-time, or less than half time student. Note:  If you're less than half-time student, you won't qualify for the AOTC. Next screen you'll be asked if 2025 is your first year of college, answer accordingly. Next screen you will enter the number of years you have claimed the Hope Credit and/or the AOTC, answer accordingly.  Next, you will be asked if you received a 1098-T, answer accordingly, and continue to enter the 1098-T information. Go through the rest of the prompts.   If you answered the questions in the above steps correctly, TurboTax should calculate your AOTC, if you qualify for it and will also let you know if you don't qualify for it.   Here's some helpful links regarding Form 1098-T:   Where do I enter Form 1098-T (Tuition Statement)? How do I get my 1098-T form?

It's highly unlikely.  To qualify for the safe harbor you would have to meet the following requirements:   Separate books and records are maintained to reflect income and expenses for each rental real estate enterprise. For rental real estate enterprises that have been in existence less than four years, 250 or more hours of rental services are performed per year. For other rental real estate enterprises, 250 or more hours of rental services are performed in at least three of the past five years. The taxpayer maintains contemporaneous records, including time reports, logs, or similar documents, regarding the following: hours of all services performed; description of all services performed; dates on which such services were performed; and who performed the services. The taxpayer or RPE attaches a statement to the return filed for the tax year(s) the safe harbor is relied upon. The 250 hours of rental services is a really high bar.  It doesn't seem realistic for an ADU.

Here are some other Common Solutions for TurboTax Online Issues:   "Something Went Wrong" / Frozen Pages: Log out and back in, check internet stability, and disable extensions. Sign-In Issues: Use the Intuit Account Recovery page to reset passwords if needed. E-file Rejection: Verify that personal information like AGI, DOB, or SSN matches IRS records. "Not Responding" Errors: If the page freezes, restart the browser or wait for it to recover, then try clearing cache.  Check your Internet connection. Hardwired connections work best. Try logging out and logging back in again. Try using a different browser. Chrome generally works well; some users find Edge works. Try restarting your device.   If you have tried all of these steps and you can't get your newer property information to populates, see this help article and this one for instructions on how to contact TurboTax customer support depending on which product you are using.   @sirhcybe

No, you should not net these amounts because the IRS treats them as two separate tax events. For your 2025 return, you must report the original refund as income on Schedule 1 if you itemized your deductions last year.    The additional tax you paid with your amended Maryland return is considered a 2025 tax payment and should be claimed as an itemized deduction on your 2025 Schedule A.

It is now tax season 2025 and this is still an issue. I got around the issue after trying everything mentioned by others. I filled out the 1099K info on the 8949 worksheet directly and skipped entering the 1099k. This got me around the issue. IRS doesn't actually need the 1099K, they only need the income if any. By the way I solved the problem using Chrome's AI software GEMINI.

@garyrg Purchasing two licenses is a waste.   You say you want to file returns for yourself and another family member.  That can easily be done with just one license.  Each license allows you to prepare and e-file up to five federal returns and the associated state returns.  You do not need two downloads.   You are allowed to download your software to up to five computers that you own.   Seek a refund for the unnecessary second license.   To request a refund for a TT product https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/intuit-refunds/request-refund-turbotax-product/L834M6uyW_US_en_US?uid=m6meybc2

Yes, it would likely be considered a "regular" retirement plan.   If you had a retirement plan through your work or a union, it is most likely a regular retirement plan and a qualified retirement plan.   Most retirement plans fall within these categories. These would include Employer-sponsored 401(K) plans, 403(b) Plans and Traditional IRA's,   Retirement plans that may not be considered regular would be nonqualified plans such as an Executive Bonus Plan or Deferred Compensation Plan.   Click here for What's a qualified retirement plan? Well, clearly they aren't 100% accurate in this case. I have gotten two different results from your software in the matter of two weeks. They can't both be correct.
You can just leave those checkboxes blank in TurboTax. It is not uncommon for nothing to be marked there, and it won't affect your return.

Thank you so much for detail explanation DanaB27 About "The 2024 Form 1099-R with code T (received in 2025) should have resolved the 2023 excess contribution on your 2024 return", I have filed 2024 Form 1099-R with code T but not sure, it resolved the 2023 excess. Is there a way to verify? When I check 2024 tax return file again , I see Form 5329(Item 18, 20, 21 : 2023 contribution amount, Item23, 24 : 2024 contribution amount, Item 25 : penalty) and 8606(Item19 & 21: 2023 contribution, Item22: 2024 contribution amount ).  In addition, when I check 2023 tax return file, I see Form 5329(Item 23, 24: 2023 contribution, Item 25 : penalty) only. When I enter 2025 Form 1099 with code T on my 2025 tax file, what form do I expect? Both 5329 and 8606 or only Form 5329

We are filing jointly for the first time this year. There is a screen to fill in Capital Loss Carry over but it is only for 1 person. How do we can we enter details of both of us?   Some older answers suggest to just sum all the numbers but that doesn't work if 1 spouse has a carry over and the other does not.   Thanks!
