The thread states the needed files have an extension of "*.tax2024". I do not see these files. Looks like they are actually named "*.tt24" Please verify

How to Access prior year online returns https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/prior-year-return/help/how-do-i-access-my-prior-year-return/00/27010 If you can't get the side menus to open up to access the prior year..... You need to start entering some basic Personal Info in 2025 for the side menu to open up. Just continue a little ways into 2025. I had to go though about 12 screens. If you used the Desktop CD/Download program then the only copy is on your computer and not saved or stored online. So you need to make and keep your own backups. Or request a transcript from the IRS https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript Or get a copy of your return using form 4506 https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f4506.pdf

Did you already buy the Desktop program? Can you find a Windows 11 or Mac OS 14 computer to install it on? Maybe a relative or friend? Otherwise you can use the Online version. You can't apply the Desktop CD/Download purchase to Online. Then try to get a refund for the Desktop program. Start an Online return here, https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/online If you used the Desktop program last year here’s How to transfer into the Online version. You need to have the prior year .tax2024 file on your computer. Expand the link if you used the CD/download last year........ https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/import-export-data-files/transfer-last-year-return-turbotax-online/L279eUvY2_US_en_US?uid=l8w7nlbv Or here’s How to switch and transfer from the Desktop program into the Online version........ https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/tax-topics/help/how-do-i-switch-from-turbotax-cd-download-to-turbotax-online/00/859756 If you used the Desktop program before you may notice several differences and not like the online version. It has less features and no Forms Mode. The Online versions don't have all the same forms so you might have to upgrade to a higher Online version. You can only do 1 return per account. Your return is only saved online so be sure to save both the .tax2025 data file and the pdf file to your computer when you are done. In case you need to amend in the future or if you need a copy to get a loan or something. You might not be able to access your online return when you need a copy.

You are likely getting an IRS letter regarding line 25d of your Form 1040-SR because the total federal income tax withholding reported does not match the records submitted by your employers or financial institutions. This can happen if data is entered incorrectly, such as adding an additional zero in one of your data entries. Or the IRS may be missing a W-2 or 1099 form for one of your income sources.
The IRS is verifying this information to adjust your refund.
Check for instructions or a deadline in the letter. Compare the letter's numbers with those on your TurboTax return. If you agree, follow the instructions in your letter to provide additional information. If you disagree with the letter, send a written explanation to the address listed on it.
You should follow the instructions in the letter to verify your withholding. This usually entails something like sending copies of your W-2s or 1099s.
The IRS usually just asks for documentation directly. An amended return is usually not required.

I was able to get past this. On the People Wks (Person on the return), I had to delete the entries in the student status section - part I of the form. So even though this was for an elementary school student, I didn't check the box that they were a student during 2025 on line 1, and unchecked elementary on line 2. After that, Turbo Tax didn't find any errors with the return. I hope this will help someone.

No, you cannot directly transfer or import tax return data from TurboTax Home & Business (a personal product for Schedule C) into TurboTax Business (for 1065, 1120S, 1120, 1041 entities). They are separate, specialized programs. TurboTax Home & Business is for self-employed individuals, independent contractors, and sole proprietors (1040 schedule C). TurboTax Business is strictly for corporations, partnerships, and estates/trusts. @dejale

I talked to Turbotax support team and they said that even though they have the warning it is supposed to work on Windows 10. I also found another thread that said to repair after the install ( Microsoft Visual C ++ 2015-2022 Redistributable (x64) and click "Repair." ) and that made no difference. My desktop has plenty of horsepower for Turbotax, as it is used for forensics. Turbotax deskop has always had some quirks but this is the worst. Tried getting escalated tech support and that was a joke. Don't need front end people who say just reinstall or "just upgrade to windows 11 pro". 40 years in IT I think I can install software. Gads. What is the solution! There must be a driver or rights somewhere that TT2025 wants. What is it?

Hello, My husband and I both just opened a Roth IRA and maxed out our 2026 contributions. We made no contribution to a Roth IRA in 2025 but we were filing married filing separate for 2025 taxes for student loan purposes (my already expensive payment more than doubles if we file joint). I have decided that next year we will file joint because what we are missing out on filing separate isn't outweighing the benefit of a low student loan payment. Do I need to remove my Roth IRA 2026 contribution if I plan to file our 2026 taxes jointly?

I've cleared my cache, cookies, deleted my bank information, and verified with Bank of America that the routing # is correct, but TurboTax still will not allow me to e-file my return. The red error message says "Double check that you're using the correct routing number." ... which I've done multiple times. Is there a way to bypass this screen and finish e-filing?

Hello DianeW777 Thank you for your reply. Appreciate it. I am in a pickle now on which path to take to avoid the self employment (fica) taxes on this onetime stipend income : [1] Remove 1099 NEC form and follow your instructions to report the stipend under "Scholarships/Grants" or [2] Use 1099 NEC form and chose HOBBY. Which one is safer to not trigger an IRS audit ? Since the IRS has received these 1099NEC details from the payer and expecting self employment taxes. The earlier version of TT provided more details for the HOBBY option like below. This is NOT money earned as an employee or self employed individual ; it is from a sporadic activity or hobby Here is the link https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/self-employed-group/discussion/my-1099-nec-form-was-from-an-internship-how-do-i-report-that-on-my-taxes-since-it-is-not-my-business/00/2975624 I will wait for your guidance. Thanks
