Wow. Glad I exited this a while ago. You are quite correct that most people are honest and keep good records, and I'm disappointed if people are implying otherwise in this forum. Self-employed individuals who keep good records should be able to deduct their tip income even if it's not included on a 1099. The people correctly interpreting the tax law and IRS guidance also have a point - TurboTax must comply with the law and regulations as written. As foolish as it sounds, Congress specifically required tips to show up on a 1099 in order to be deductible. That ties the IRS' hands and it ties TurboTax' hands. If and when Congress decides to be a little more flexible with the language they put into the tax code I'm sure all the major tax providers - including TurboTax - will jump on the chance to help hard working self-employed folks take full advantage. In the meantime, we're stuck with what was written, including not allowing a deduction for tip income not included on a form 1099.

Where does TT show the calculation for the amount of taxable social security benefits if using the lump sum worksheet? On the lump sum worksheet - Line 19 Refigured taxable SS benefits 13647 Line 20 Prior year taxable SS Benefits 11104 Line 21 Additional taxable SS Benefits 2543 1040 6b Taxable SS benefits 16762 box for lump sum is checked 16762 is the amount calculated as if the lump sum payment is taxed as 2025. It seems the 2025 taxable amount should be 13647 + 2543 = 16190 What am I missing? Or is there a problem with the lump sum worksheet?? TIA Lynn

This is a late thread but I found it cause this just happened to me-- for future reference: you need to go to the overpay options section and hit that "yes" you do want to use overpay for next year/other. - the next few pages enter you want to use "$0" in each section and your overpay will display in the state refund it's an idiotic thing to do instead of just hitting "no I don't want to use overpay for next years taxes" but that's this stupid system I guess.. probably fix this bug TurboTax??

I've posted this in two other threads where the 5965 was rejected by IRS but I am wondering if my issue is unique. I went through the forms earlier this year and it says I get like $792 back.... cool that's what I expected! Then after the update a few days ago it now says $0. I have deleted and went back through the 5965 multiple times and it always says $0. I decided to go through the form by form myself and found that they are not computing the credit correctly. I REALLY don't want to wait on hold on the phone for a turbo tax employee; has anyone else seen this specifically and reported to them?

My original federal and missouri returns were accepted, but I had to amend both returns and now my missouri return shows "pending" but my amended federal return shows "rejected: return reviewed". Now, the "review again" button doesn't do anything. The federal return shows no errors when I rerun it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

To go back to a lower version or the Free Edition you can try to clear and start over https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/using-turbotax/help/how-do-i-clear-and-start-over-in-turbotax-online/00/26444 If you started your tax return in TurboTax Free Edition (Form 1040 with limited credits; roughly 37% of taxpayers qualify), you won't need to clear and start over. You can select Switch to Free Edition instead. In the Turbo Tax Free Edition, information that you can enter is limited now. Why do I have to upgrade from the Free Edition? https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/upgrading/help/why-do-i-have-to-upgrade-from-free-edition/00/26379 Or try the IRS Free File program https://www.irs.gov/filing/free-file-do-your-federal-taxes-for-free A couple reasons it could be saying you need to upgrade…. You might be seeing this because of form 8959, that goes to Schedule 2. The amount of Medicare taxes withheld in W2 box 6 is not exactly 1.45% of the Medicare wages in box 5, due to rounding. I read a post that said to try leaving the cents off of the Medicare tax on your W2 box 6. Box 6 has to be exactly 1.45% of box 5 or less. If it is saying you need Schedule 3 and can't use the Free Edition it might be giving you the Retirement Savings Credit. You can say you are a student to decline the credit. You must answer Yes when asked in the Retirement Savings Contributions Credit section if your were a full-time student. The answer to this same question asked in the personal-information section is not the answer that is used.

If you were trying to Efile an Amended 2024 return, it may have rejected as it's too early for Efiling a 1040X for a prior year.
There's no rush to submit your Amended return. It takes at least 12 weeks to process, whether Efiled or Mailed, and since it's the middle of the 2025 filing season, may take longer.
You should get an Email saying why your return was rejected, and also when you Sign In you should be directed to 'Fix Your Return'. If you don't see either of these, it's probably for the reason I stated above.
You could try Efiling your Amendment later (April) or print and mail it now.
