I believe you are referring to box 11 on form 1099-R which is for the first year of your Roth IRA contribution. The purpose of that entry is to determine if you held the account for five years before you took distributions. You may be penalized if you made a distribution before five years. If you know you held the account more that five years, chose a date that is more than five years from the date of your distribution.

In addition to short and long term dividends, my 1099B includes "Undetermined Term Transactions for Noncovered Tax Lots." My 1099B advises me to enter the data under Box B of Form 8949. However TurboTax has only generated one Form 8949, and it already includes both short and long term dividends using Boxes A and D. How do I manually add a second Form 8949 to my return?

The state is filing so there is an error preventing you from filing. It sounds like the program may not realize your OR return is paid - to allow e-filing.
You need to go back through the OR return clicking continue along the way to see if you can establish that connection.
If your return is finished, you can select to add a state- this lets you back in to go through the OR return.
If you are using desktop, check for updates.
If all else fails, contact support.

@oshint00 IF both of you were at or over 65 during 2025......and only $6000 is showing GO BACK to the Personal Info section and EDIT each of you. During the entry of your SS, there is a checkbox, indicating that the SS number is not valid for employment. One of you has that box checked, and it likely should not be. (you don't have to be employed....the SSN just has to be eligible to be used for employment should that person choose to work again) That box is only checked if their SS card actually says it's Not Valid for Employemnt...in which case, there will be a $6000 drop off from that Sr deduction.

If I do this and e-file federal now, can I e-file the GA returns by themselves when GA stuff is ready? Just want to confirm that before I send the federal return.

From time to time Financial Institutions will issue a revised 1099 packet, which could include 1099-INT, 1099-DIV, 1099-MISC, or others. If I have already imported the original 1099 in Turbo Tax, what is the recommended way to handle the revised 1099 - do I "remove the imported data" under the File Menu, reimport the new 1099, and go thru the Q&A/update process all over? Or is there a more efficient way to handle this?

Yes, I noticed that too. Apparently it is required for TT Online, but not TT Desktop. I clicked on Continue rather than Upgrade and it downloaded the 1099-B flawlessly. Using the word Require causes more people to click the Upgrade button and thus drives increased revenue for Intuit. It's very shareholder friendly wording. 😉

We are currently investigating the issue and will provide updates as soon as possible.
If you would like to send us a “diagnostic” file that has your “numbers” but not your personal information it would help. If you would like to do this, here are the instructions: (Don't forget to give us the state)
TurboTax Online:
Open your return -Go to the menu panel on the left side of your return and select Tax Tools.
Then select Tools below Tax Tools.
A window will pop up which says Tools Center.
On this screen, select Share my file with Agent.
You will see a message explaining what the diagnostic copy is. Click okay through this screen and then you will get a Token number.
Reply to this thread with your Token number and your state. This will allow us to open a copy of your return without seeing any personal information.
TurboTax Desktop:
If you like, you can send a copy of your return that will be scrubbed to eliminate your personal data by using these steps:
Click on Online in the top left menu of TurboTax Desktop for Windows
Select 'Send Tax File to Agent'* > Follow the prompts to reach the token number.
Enter your email used for TurboTax > Enter your code > Send
Write down or send an image of your token number and state then place in this issue.
We can then review your exact scenario for a solution.
Please also tell us any states included in the return. This is necessary for us to view the return.
*If using a MAC, go to the menu at the top of the screen, select Help, then, 'Send Tax File to Agent')
We will be able to see exactly what you are seeing and we can determine what exactly is going on in your return to provide you with a resolution.

Click on Search at the top right of your TurboTax screen
Typing sales tax in the search bar
Clicking on the link Jump to sales tax
Click here for Where do I enter my sales taxes paid?
Click here for How do I clear and start over?
Please return to Community if you have any additional information or questions and we would be happy to help.

@joho3
The amount on line 2b of the Form 1099-R Summary probably has something to do with the problem. Line 2b is for a disaster distribution. You didn't say anything before about a disaster distribution. Did you take the distribution because of a federally declared disaster?
Line 7 of the Form 1099-R Summary is related to an inherited IRA. You also didn't say anything before about an inherited IRA. A distribution from an inherited IRA should not have a distribution code of 7.
You may have answered a question incorrectly. Go back through the entire 1099-R interview again and carefully check your answers. Be sure to continue through all the questions until you get back to "Your 2025 Income Summary."

What exactly did you purchase from Costco? Costco (and other retailers) can sell TurboTax Deluxe with only federal software or with federal + state included. I see both on the Costco site. If you bought the cheaper "federal" only, then in order to get state software you will need to pay $40 for a state download, and then you can use the $10 off on the $25 state e-file fee. It is a better value to buy the federal + state if you know you will be preparing a state return.

I scanned the SSA-1099-SM forms I received - but the amounts were not interpreted or processed. I don't find anywhere to enter data from the SSA. I'll continue to hunt, but I think this interface is very unhelpful. This is my first year of trying ONLINE filing, rather than Desktop, which I've liked in past years. 7 hours into it now, I think my choice this year might have been a bad one.
