MFJ and in 2024 we had $5000 of depedent care fsa deduction on our W2. we were only able to use $500 in 2024. in 2025 we incurred and spent the remaining $4500 during the grace period as well as the additional $3000 2025 depedent care fsa deduction. on our 2024 taxes we still the 500 was deducted and the 4500 was taxable. i was expecting that to show up as deductible along with the additional $3000 this year. instead on form 2441, line 12 is 3000, line 13 is 4500, line 14 is 0 and line 15 is 7500. Looking down farther, line 24 is 0 due to no sole proprietorship or partnership, line 25 is 5000 (the annual max) and line 26 is 2500. It seems I'm being double taxed on the 2024 carry over. (once in 2024 and now partial in 2025). is the only solution to this to say that i carried over 2500 into 2026 and limit myself to 5000 new contributions? (2026 has new 7500 limit)

I read all of that information.   My refund is over the required amount.  Is it because I'm using desktop vs. the online version?  If so why doesn't it say that, it just says Turbo tax and I'm not using a third party turbo tax.

A couple reasons it could be saying you need to upgrade…… You might be seeing this because of form 8959, that goes to Schedule 2. The amount of Medicare taxes withheld in W2 box 6 is not exactly 1.45% of the Medicare wages in box 5, due to rounding. I read a post that said to try leaving the cents off of the Medicare tax on your W2 box 6. Box 6 has to be exactly 1.45% of box 5 or less. If it is saying you need Schedule 3 and can't use the Free Edition it might be giving you the Retirement Savings Credit. You can say you are a student to decline the credit. You must answer Yes when asked in the Retirement Savings Contributions Credit section if your were a full-time student. The answer to this same question asked in the personal-information section is not the answer that is used.

When mailing a TurboTax amended return (Form 1040-X) for a previous year, include the signed Form 1040-X, any new/updated schedules (e.g., Schedule A, B, C) that changed, and copies of any new tax forms (like W-2s or 1099s) that support the changes; however, you don't need to include the original return with the 1040-X. See this IRS webpage for more information.   To complete a Form 1040-X, you'll need the following information: a copy of the original tax return that's being amended W-2s schedules worksheets corrected information and calculations any forms needed to support corrections See  this tax tips article for more information about filing an amended return with IRS.    If the changes affect a state return, it should also be amended. See this TurboTax help article for more information.

Turbo Tax 2025 is pretty much the same every year so if it's "different" then you've probably gotten mixed up between Desktop version and the Online version.  Desktop has menu bar for Wages & Income etc along the top of the screen.  Online is launched from your browser and has menu bar down the left side of the screen.  All of the "Sign in to Turbotax" buttons that litter the Intuit site will try to take you to Online version.   Online has no Forms mode, you can only prepare 1 return per account, and is generally more expensive than Desktop, especially if you prepare multiple returns.   To get the Desktop version installed on your machine you need Win 11 or Mac OS 14 or above, see   https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/cd-download/ https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/cd-download/tta-system-requirements/   But note you can get better discounts at Amazon etc, see   https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/intuit-product-orders/obtain-authentic-turbotax-programs/L1yYfitCw_US_en_US?uid=mikq6w51

Yes, IVF, fertility treatments, and medications generally qualify as deductible medical expenses at both the federal and state levels in Wisconsin.   You can deduct unreimbursed medical expenses, including procedures like in vitro fertilization, prescription fertility drugs, etc. that are used to treat the medical condition of infertility.    These expenses are deductible only to the extent that your total qualified medical costs exceed 7.5% of your Adjusted Gross Income, and you must itemize your deductions on Schedule A rather than taking the standard deduction to claim them.
