I spent two hours trying to transfer my data and each time it would say it's successful What a waste of time, I saw this pop up TurboTax wants to connect to any device I said "no" it seemed like a security issue I don't want it to connect to "any device" I did not know I would have such consequences. How are we supposed to know from that your data won't transfer now I've got to figure out how remove my "no" responce because it seems to remember it.

IS MY 2024 STATE OR LOCAL REFUND TAXABLE?
If you used standard deduction for your 2024 tax return, you do not have to enter a state or local tax refund you received in 2025. If you itemized deductions then your state or local refund that you claimed on the 2024 return----and received in 2025---must be entered as taxable income on your 2025 return. If you are not sure if you itemized for 2024, look at your 2024 Form 1040 line 12. Do you see the standard deduction amount or something else?
2024 STANDARD DEDUCTION AMOUNTS
SINGLE $14,600 (65 or older/legally blind + $1950)
MARRIED FILING SEPARATELY $14,600 (65 or older/legally blind + $1550)
MARRIED FILING JOINTLY $29,200 (65 or older/legally blind + $1550)
HEAD OF HOUSEHOLD $21,900 (65 or older/legally blind + $1950)

No. The fees are miscellaneous itemized deductions which were eliminated a few years ago with tax reform.

If my understanding is correct, and you're referring to the 'Election to Claim the Foreign Tax Credit Without Filing Form 1116' (see: IRS instructions) as the simplified method, then you would follow the navigation steps below to instead populate Form 1116:
TurboTax FAQ - Where do I enter the foreign tax credit (Form 1116) or deduction?
Enter all your foreign income in the Wages & Income section if you haven't already
Navigate to the foreign tax credit section:
TurboTax Online/Mobile: Go to the foreign tax credit screen under Deductions & Credits
TurboTax Desktop: Search for foreign tax credit and select the Jump to link or,
Go to Federal Taxes.
If asked, How do you want to enter your deductions and credits?, select I'll choose what I work on.
Under Estimates and Other Taxes Paid, select Start or Update next to Foreign Taxes.
3. When you reach the screen Do You Want the Deduction or the Credit? select the option you prefer for your situation
4. If you select Take a Credit:
Select Continue on the next screen, then select No to fill out Form 1116.
The instructions indicate that the software will then use your inputs to determine if filing Form 1116 is required; you can check Forms mode in the upper-right on TurboTax Desktop to verify that Form 1116 is attached to your federal return (left-hand window).

You do not say what mistake you think TT made. If you owe federal tax:
Mail a check or money order with your amended return. Or pay directly on the IRS payment site.
