My biggest concern is that I told TurboTax that I (and the receiving organization) used the average share price to determine the FMV. So why did TurboTax change what I selected? There’s also this from IRS Publication 561: “If there is an active public market for the contributed stocks or bonds on a stock exchange, in an over-the-counter market, or elsewhere, the FMV of each share or bond is the average price between the highest and lowest quoted selling prices on the valuation date”. Unless TurboTax is going to recalculate the FMV I don’t believe it should report a different method for determining the FMV from the one that was actually used.   i’m still not sure I understand why this would be changed and I feel this is a bug.

The issue is that the "Inflation Refund" is not refunding you tax, it's based on your 2023 income, but not on your tax, and not on any tax that you paid or claimed on any previous tax returns.    In my opinion it needs to be claimed regardless of whether you took the Standard Deduction or Itemized.    "The 1099-G for the New York State Inflation Refund Check can be entered as a New York State refund in the TurboTax program. Income Other Common Income State and Local Tax Refunds on Form 1099-G   START or UPDATE Select the "Tax return year" on the "Tell us about the refund you received in 2025" as TAX YEAR 2023 Enter zero for "Payments and Withholding" Enter the amount that you received which is reported on that 1099-G Select NO for the "Let's check if your 2023 New York refund is taxable" screen Once the NO radio button is selected a drop-down opens and you can enter the taxable amount which is the full amount reported on that 1099-G. If you also receive a 1099-G for a 2024 state tax refund, that can be entered separately from this 1099-G.  You will attribute the "inflation refund" check to tax year 2023 and the State refund (if you received one) to tax year 2024. This is the first year New York has issued a payment like this. There is no one dedicated screen to enter this 1099-G in the TurboTax program. Technically the New York State Inflation Refund Check is NOT a refund of tax. It is similar to an Earned Income Credit in so far as it is based on the Taxpayer's income, in this case their 2023 income, regardless of whether they itemized or used the standard deduction. It is not taxable on the state return, but is taxable on your federal return. Some answers you give the program are answers to make the program put the numbers where they need to go, they are not answers that are transmitted to the IRS. The amount of the New York State Inflation Refund Check will be reported on Schedule 1. The total on Schedule 1 is carried forward to Form 1040 line 8.     Here is a link explaining the New York State Inflation Refund Check Here is a link explaining the federal taxability of the check

My credit card has an expiration year Turbotax would not accept. I tried your work-arounds to this issue.   None of them worked.     Do you realize how frustrating it is to complete your tax returns and not be able to pay the $25.00 to electronically submit the state tax return?   Luckily  I had a debit card with an expiration year that Turbotax could process.   This payment issue has been an around for  2 years.   I would think Turbotax would want to make the payment process as easy as possible. If my debit card would not have been accepted,  my choices would have been to  snail mail my state tax return and wait 2-3 months for a refund or pay $40.00  (in addition to the $25.00) to have the fee removed from the state tax refund.   Nether choice is acceptable. Please raise this issue to who ever in the company is responsible for resolving this issue.   Thanks for your help.

I have a 401K which was opened about 1994. I left the position in 1997 and didn't contribute to it after that time. I'm retired and 63 yo. In 2025, I withdrew a portion of the funds. When entering this in TT, I don't have the answer to these questions; 1. "Did you make any nondeductible IRA contributions to your traditional IRA from 2024 or prior years? Nondeductible contributions are tracked on Form 8606 in your prior year returns."

It depends. K‑2 “state code error” almost always comes from one of three places, and the fix depends on which one applies. Below are the causes and the exact steps that typically resolve it.   If you do need K‑2/K‑3 Open the K‑1 (Partnership or S‑Corp). Go to the State Information or State Source Income section. Make sure every line with a dollar amount has a valid state code (e.g., CA, NV, TX). If you have no state‑specific income, choose your resident state or “multiple states” if the software allows it. Re‑run the error check.   You DO NOT need K‑2/K‑3 This is the most common scenario. If you don’t have foreign income, foreign taxes, or foreign partners, you can simply turn off K‑2/K‑3.   Return to the K‑1 entry section. Look for a question like: “Does this entity have foreign activities?” “Do you need to complete Schedules K‑2 and K‑3?” Change the answer to no  for these. The software will remove K‑2/K‑3 entirely. Re‑run the error check. You have state withholding but no state selected If your K‑1 shows withholding, you must choose the state.   Open the K‑1. Go to the State Withholding section. Select the correct state from the dropdown. Save and re‑run the error check.
