Enter your 1098-T and your 1099-Q, then go to Forms.  Look for the Student Info Wks right under the Dependent Wks.  Scroll down to Room and Board and enter the amount there.  If you are claiming the AOTC or Hope credit, look at line 19 and put in the amount of the tuition you want to apply to the credit (maximum of $4000 - you can enter more, but it won't get you a larger credit and will make your 529 withdrawals taxable - for some reason mine was set to $10,000!).  The tuition, scholarships and the 529 distributions should already be in there from the interview process but check that the numbers are correct.  Save the file while still in Forms, then switch back to Step by Step and make sure that nothing has changed.  I did find that when I opened the file again that Room and Board *or* the amount applied to credit had been changed from when I saved them, so I'm not confident yet that they would be e-filed correctly.  I hope they fix this soon since it's the last part I'm waiting on to file.

This is caused by a conflict with the Visual C++ 2015 - 20xx Redistributions  that is already on your computer.  and can be fixed by doing a repair on the redistribution - you do not have to uninstall of the redistribution.  Unfortunately the last Windows 11 update will unfix it, so I had to do it again after the last update. The process is simple: To repair Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables on Windows 11, open Control Panel > Programs and Features (appwiz.cpl), locate the packages, right-click each one, select Change, and click Repair. It is recommended to repair all versions (starting with the newest) and restart your computer afterward, but you find it is one of the 2015 redistributions. There is a very clear YouTube video on how to do this: "https://youtu.be/DETniAMlLFM"  Which you will need to copy without the quotation marks as Intuit will not let me put a link in this message, and paste into your browser Note that  you will have to reboot your computer afterwards. I don't know who to blame on this: is an install error by Intuit or a Microsoft problem but the whole thing seems unnecessary especially if it keeps repeating.

You may enter the summary information instead of each individual transaction.  Create a .PDF of the IRS form 1099-B to upload into TurboTax Online.  Follow these steps.          Down the left side of the screen, click Federal. Down the left side of the screen, click Wages & Income. Click the down arrow to the right of Investments and Savings. Click to the right of Stocks, Cryptocurrency, Mutual Funds, Bonds, Other (1099-B). Click Add investments. On the Save time and connect your financial accounts screen, select Enter a different way. On the How do you want to add your docs? screen, select Type it in myself, then Continue. At the screen OK, let's start with one investment type, select Stocks, Bonds, Mutual Funds.  Click Continue. At the screen Which bank or brokerage is on your 1099-B, enter the information. Click Continue. Answer the questions at the screen Tell us about the sales on your 1099-B. Do these sales include any employee stock, enter No. Do you have more than three sales, enter Yes. Do these sales include any other types of investments, enter No. Did you buy every investment listed, enter Yes.  Continue. On the screen Now, choose how to enter your sales, select Sales section totals.  Select Continue. At the screen Look for your sales on your 1099-B, select Continue. You will now be able to enter the total proceeds (sales) and cost basis, along with the sales category. Refer to your IRS form 1099-B, IRS form 8949 and / or Schedule D Capital Gains and Losses for the amounts and category. When finished, select Continue. You can add additional sales totals by selecting the Add another sales total on the Review your sales section totals screen. When completed, close the record and click Continue. At the screen Now, we'll help you upload your 1099-B since the IRS requires a copy, browse and select your document.  Select Continue. When you upload your document, your filing instructions will not show that anything needs to be mailed in, and no IRS form 8453 will be generated.
So does that imply we can't file online an informational trust return since I believe we need a statement that the earnings will be filed with the grantor's return.

Good morning,   I am stuck in an endless loop of an error that I cannot clear.  The only option appears to be to file by mail, but I don't understand WHY the error is happening in the first place:     I've reviewed the entire tax file three times, double checked all the numbers from our W2's and other documents, and it's still flagging for an error:   I don't think this is a TAX error, I think this is TURBOTAX problem... Please help! *This is on TurboTax Do It Yourself Deluxe edition.

First, check your e-file status to see if your return was accepted:  https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/   Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control.  TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.     You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 35a of your 2025 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:    https://www.irs.gov/refunds   To track your state refund:     https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/track-state-refund/L3jgO8PGs_US_en_US?uid=lt447ebr   If you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund, that will take some extra time, while the third party bank handles the refund processing     https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/refunds-take-longer-others/L14YlqFrH_US_en_US?uid=lexdr7zh . https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/irs-refund-taking-longer-21-days/L2vRAJbdU_US_en_US?uid=lexe7lst         If you are getting earned income credit on line 27 or additional child tax credit on line 28 You are subject to the delay required by the PATH act.  Do not expect your refund before early March   https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/internal-revenue-service/federal-refunds-delayed-due-path-act/L5jnQJsBi_US_en_US   Note:  “Accepted” is not the same as “approved”.  TurboTax tells you the e-file was accepted if the IRS deems that there is enough information on the return for them to take it in for processing.   Only the IRS can approve of the refund, which is a later stage of processing.  If the IRS approves your refund they will provide a date for the refund to be issued.   FROM THE IRS WHERE’S MY REFUND SITE: https://www.irs.gov/wheres-my-refund How it works Where's My Refund shows your refund status: Return Received – We received your return and are processing it. Refund Approved – We approved your refund and are preparing to issue it by the date shown. Refund Sent – We sent the refund to your bank or to you in the mail. It may take 5 days for it to show in your bank account or several weeks for your check to arrive in the mail.

TurboTax is lying.  Microsoft offers continued support for Windows 10, so there is no reason to disallow TurboTax for Windows 10 users.  I have setup that support, but I am not going to try to load my copy of TurboTax, since they are lying.  I will be going to a private tax service for the first time in decades.  Trying to load this would just make it impossible to return, and I plan on returning it to Staples where I was gouged for $30 over their posted price.  Microsoft has relentlessly and aggressively pursued me letting them make a copy of my hard drive.  They have no more right to my hard drive than Joe Blow.  If Joe Blow asked you 1000 times if he could copy your hard drive, not allowing "No" for an answer each time, what would you do?  If he prevented you from logging on to your computer each of those times, forcing you to either finally give in or request that he bother you again in a few days, what would you do?  ChatGPT explains that Microsoft wants to move everything to the cloud.  In fact, ChatGPT said something about such being secretly default when you first startup Windows 11.  I am sick of those Pirates that now run the world.  I want out.
