I am entering a 1099R from a federal civil service retirement annuity.  Turbotax is asking for annuity start date.    How do I find this date and what format does it go in?     It also asks for plan cost.  Is this the "total employee contribution" from box 9b of the 1099R?   Finally, it asks for "Death benefit exclusion"  What is this and where do I find it?  Is it required?   the help boxes with the question marks contain zero information about what these items are and how to find them.

Room and Board expense can offset the tax on a 529 Account / 1099-Q distribution, but Room and Board does not offset a scholarship.  Only Tuition, Fees, Books and supplies can offset the tax on scholarships.    Room and board would not change an education credit.
You could try deleting your state and starting it again.     How do I delete my state return in TurboTax Online? How do I delete my state return in TurboTax Desktop for Windows?

My husband and I never received our 2024 refund. We contacted the IRS who sent us a letter stating they deposited it into the Refund Anticipation Loan account. We never requested this. On our tax return we gave the routing and account number for our checking account. How can I get this fixed?  We never receive a call back from TT.

I reviewed a scenario in TurboTax with the maximum amount of state and local taxes, to see how it would affect Maine's Schedule 2.  Even if you get the whole amount that is allowable for taxes paid in Maine Schedule 2, the form limits your allowable itemized deduction on line 5 to $36,300.  Claiming the maximum amount of state taxes paid on your federal, would not make your return reject.       @DC93

This error has been patched. All you need to do now is update your TurboTax Desktop software, and you should be able to print. From the help article - "Manually Update TurboTax for Windows Software":   If you're having trouble automatically updating TurboTax 2025 for Windows, you can manually update it by following these steps: Close TurboTax. Select this link to download the update. Open the file w_perrelsuperpatch... and install the manual update. After you print, verify that all the forms included in your state return contain tax year 2025 in the upper left-hand corner.
I am having this same issue, I have the correct code, the Desktop version of Turbotax won't accept it.

I was applying room & board towards the scholarship amount (thus making a portion of the scholarship taxable) to compare how it affects the LLC.  I enter the amount of room & board but it doesn't look like it carries it forward to Schedule 1, line 8R.  Is this another bug in the college expense reporting?  Or is there a way for me to manually enter this amount?

That would mean you didn't have any taxable income from the IRA distribution, as the penalty would be assessed on the taxable portion of the distribution. You can look on line 4(b) of your Form 1040 to see if any of your distribution is showing as taxable. Also, when I tried to go back in to trouble shoot, again I couldn't get the penalty abatement screen to populate. I had to start a new return to get it to work for some reason.   To view your form 1040 and schedule 1 to 3:   Choose Tax Tools from your left menu bar in TurboTax Online while working in your program Choose Tools Choose View Tax Summary See the Preview my 1040 option in the left menu bar and click on it Choose the Back option in the left menu bar when you are done If you had a penalty for early withdrawal of IRA funds, it would show on line 8 on Part II of Schedule 2.

Yes mine finally got accepted it took a while, but it finally went through. Hopefully, everything else works out. I hope everything works out for you and all that have been waiting. A long time finally gets accepted. I know it’s frustrating because a lot of us depend on that like myself
It is now February 4 and I still don't have a update to allow me to enter my retirement 1099's.  What is going on?
Is there any update as to when this form will be available? Can you please reach out to the IT Department, because Feb 13 th is much too late.
