You can get out of this by deleting the forms that TurboTax has prepared from your opening the screens that support them. If you are using TurboTax Online, see this help article and below for the steps to Delete a Form:   Open or continue your return. On Tax Home, select Start, Continue, or Pick up where you left off to enter your return. In the left menu, select Tax Tools and then Tools. In the pop-up window Tool Center, choose Delete a form. (Look for any form or worksheet relating to Medical expenses.) Select Delete next to the form, schedule, and worksheet in the list and follow the instructions. If you are using a Desktop version of TurboTax, you can switch to Forms Mode (click on Forms at the top of the screen when you are in Step-by-Step Mode), review the list of forms on the left, then select the one you wish to delete. When the form displays, click "Delete Form" at the bottom of the screen.   @user17729945320

@tararengan ,  I just tried your situation i.e. adding / recognizing a GoI pension and then trying tom exclude  this based on Tax Treaty.  While this worked on 2024  TurboTax  ( by going through in the forms mode  for sure ), this year Turbo seems to have blocked this path  ( don't know why  ---).  You should be able to recognize  income  under "other reportable income" -- going to line z on Schedule-1  part I ,      and then  under adjustments   which part II of the schedule-1, be able to take this out  with a positive amount entry  again as Other adjustments " and put a notation  like  " US-India Tax Treaty article ... ". So my conclusion for this year is NOT to report this GoI income -- but keep your paperwork showing that this income is from GoI public source pension , as also a copy of the  Tax Treaty article   that  excludes US from taxing this income.   Is there more I can do for you ?   Namaste ji   pk

Form 8606 is not involved because the distribution was from a 401(k), not from an IRA.   Box 5c Rollover should be marked, but it's possible that TurboTax is failing to do so.  At the moment I don't have TurboTax in front of me to test.  As VolvoGirl said, make sure that you have indicated that you moved the money to another retirement account, that you did a combination of rolling over, converting and cashing out, and that you converted $78,000 to a Roth IRA.  You can confirm that TurboTax is treating it as a rollover to a Roth IRA by reviewing Part V of the IRA Information Worksheet where in the 2025 Transactions section it will show $78,000 on the line for Conversion contributions taxable at conversion.

Are you asking about 2024 a year ago?  You didn't notice your return rejected? You will have to print and mail your return even if she amended hers.   Once a ssn has been entered into the IRS you can't efile it again.    And she shouldn't have amended her return right away.  She needed to wait until the IRS processed her original return and she got the first refund or paid a tax due.  Was her original return Accepted?  It usually takes a day or 2 to be accepted.  I don't think she could have amended so fast.

@ retsgta  I'll assume you have your new IP PIN to use for tax returns filed this calendar year.  If you don't have the new one, we can tell you how to get it.   To enter an IP PIN in the desktop editions:   Federal Taxes tab (except it's the Personal tab in Home and Business) Subtab "Other Tax Situations" Scroll down to the topic "Other return info" Use the subtopic  for IP PIN.

Since box 16 for both IL and NJ showed $5K, it is a bit confusing. I don't want to pay twice. How do I file it in Turbo tax? Thanks.

My desktop 2025 TTax version did not offer such help. I struggled with it, trying to fix/correct it, to to avail, and BTW, I have been a Tax user for 20+ years and have never had ANY problems in the past. This is a bug. My 1099-R from Fidelity was exactly the same withholdings as last years' 1099-R. Unacceptable that all users with 1099-R forms have to struggle through this error....

As a TurboTax desktop user for over 30 years, I have used it to calculate tax outcome of 529 withdrawals for the last 10 years. It strikes me that the short comings and errors were still not corrected. The step-by-step process is supposed to be sufficient to enter all necessary details and convert into calculations. In the case of 529 expenses and withdrawals, it is far from perfect. The information entered in step-by-step is not reflected on the form across all cases. Some examples: 1. When income exceeds thresholds for educational credits such as American Opportunity credit or Lifetime learning credit, $10k adjustment is still applied, resulting in higher taxable portion of 529 withdrawals. Specifically, On a Student Info Wk of a dependent, Part V1 - Education Expenses, line 18 Used for credit. This line has a value default to $10k that offsets your 529 expenses. However, if you are not qualified for the educational credits, this $10k should not be there. I can manually change it to $0, but only after carefully checked that my tax is mysteriously higher than expected. Part VII, line 1 'Elect credit or deduction which results in best tax outcome' is supposed to give you the best outcome, but it doesn't. Strangely, the box is always checked, and you cannot uncheck it. If you go through step-by-step only, you will miss this adjustment, resulting in paying more taxes than necessary, including 10% penalty of the 'extra' withdrawal.   2. 529 expenses paid for non-dependent is not auto populated on the right form. Turbo Tax has designated a separate form called 'ESA/QTP wks' for non-dependent. Information filled out through the step-by-step process does not go to this form automatically. If you have withdrawn 529 to pay for education expenses for a non-dependent, without manually populating this 'ESA/QTP wks' form, all your withdrawal will be taxable, including 10% penalty.   My advice to fellow community members: do your math about 529 expenses, withdrawal and tax consequences outside of Turbo Tax first. After the step-by-step process, check the number on Schedule I, Part I, line z: Other Income (Qual State Tuition Prgm from 1099-Q). If they don't match, you will have to dive into the forms to make corrections. This is particularly important if you withdraw more than expenses or pay for educational expenses of a non-dependent.

The "bribery question" in TurboTax for New York State tax returns asks you if you have ever been convicted of bribery. More specifically, it asks if you have a conviction for bribery, corrupting the government, or defrauding the government under specific NYS Penal laws (Penal Law Article 200 or 496, or section 195.20) and is asking this to determine eligibility for various state tax credits and incentives.    In other words, New York State does require this question to be answered to prevent those convicted of such crimes from receiving certain state-sponsored financial incentives. It ensures that taxpayers with convictions for bribing public servants do not receive tax benefits.

This rejection can happen when your Identity Protection Personal Identification Number (IP PIN) doesn’t match the one in the IRS’s records. The IRS provides participants a new IP PIN for each tax year. To fix this, start by finding your 6-digit IP PIN: This will be on the CP01A letter you got in December or January for your 2025 taxes. IP PINs for prior tax years won't work. If you lost your letter or never got one, get your IP PIN online on the IRS Retrieve your Identity Protection PIN (IP PIN) page. If you're unable to get your IP PIN online, you can have it reissued (allow up to 21 days). How to fix e-file reject IND-180-01? - TurboTax Support - Intuit

If you are using Premier Desktop, the easiest way to remove the two nonoperating businesses is to delete the forms from the return in Forms mode. Click on Forms at the top menu when in Step-by-Step. Review the list of forms on the left, then select and delete any that relate to the businesses, such as Schedule C, Schedule C 2 Year Comp, Schedule C Worksheet.    If you haven't made any entries for the two businesses this year, TurboTax may prompt you in Review to answer questions about all of the line items from last year as long as the forms are still there.    Premier is intended for investments and rentals and not for Schedule C.   See this TurboTax tips article for more information about Schedule C.
No IRS IP PIN question was posed in the Turbotax Premier Desktop. My old driver license info from last year was rejected. I have an IRS IP PIN. Help!
