The TurboTax software for Missouri for 2025 is not available yet, so how do you know how it will treat capital gains? The way the capital gains are reported on your federal tax return does not tell you anything about how it will be handled on your Missouri tax return. You will not see the subtraction on the federal tax return. The Missouri software for 2025 is not expected to be available until the end of January. You will have to wait until then to see if it handles capital gains correctly. I expect that it will.

Gifts given to family members, friends or other individuals are not deductible.   Gifts received are not taxable to the person who received the gift, and are not entered on a tax return.   If your gift exceeds the yearly limit ($19,000 per individual)  imposed by the gift tax rules, then you will need to complete a Form 709 gift tax form and send it to the IRS, although it is very unlikely that you will owe any tax.   TurboTax does not support Form 709.  It is not an income tax form and would not be included as part of an income tax return.   Here is a link to the form: https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f709.pdf   https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tips/estates/the-gift-tax-made-simple/L5tGWVC8N     Here's a link for Form 709 preparation software:  https://www.puritas-springs.com/product-category/federal

I clicked the discount link in the Intuit email, and it takes me to my account. A popup confirms the "DISCOUNT30" code has been applied. As I try to navigate the Intuit / TurboTax website from my account page, it takes me in circles, but I cannot locate anyplace to purchase TurboTax software. If I go to the general website for Intuit and sign-in from there, I can buy software, but it does not honor the discount code. Is this a marketing blunder or just bad webpage design by Intuit?

You are wasting your time and effort trying to get a copy of your 2013 income tax return. The inheritance will not be on your tax return because you do not report an inheritance on your income tax return. The person who told you to look at the income tax return doesn't know much about income taxes. If you don't have your bank statements or any other records from 2013, your best hope is to ask your bank if they have a record of the transaction. If they don't, ask NYL how they know that you cashed the check. Ask NYL to send you a copy of the front and back of the canceled check. The back of the check will show if you endorsed it, and what bank you deposited it in.

@Aussie  I will point out that the adjustments @dmertz  is talking about to the Roth basis refers only to Turbotax's optional tracking of IRA basis.  It does not get reported on any tax form.  If you withdraw amounts in less than 5 years, it is up to you to self-certify that the amounts are considered "contributions" or "earnings" (and it is up to you to prove it if audited).  Turbotax offers the ability to track your Roth basis and perform that calculation for you, but if you can track your basis separately, you don't have to use turbotax to track your basis.  And if you make a withdrawal in less than 5 years and Turbotax thinks it is taxable because Turbotax has the wrong basis number, you can correct that when you need to.
I just learned about the inheritance a few months ago and I changed my gmail address 5 years ago but have the former as a backup. Turbo tax won't let me use it.

It was from my Dad's major company after he passed. I had just become a widow, was talked into selling my house and moved into an apartment and had back surgery. It is now handled by NYL and they said I cashed it but I would have to see my 2013 return for the document. IRS doesn't offer that option and my bank says I will have to go to a branch and request they go to the back room as they took over my bank at the time. I would not have forgotten a check of this amount. I only have my records back to 2014, longer than the required 7 years. I'm now so disabled I have 24/7 care so running around isn't easy.

You will be able to access the 2024 return you started by using the exact same account and user ID that you used when you started it.   But you can no longer use online software for any further changes.       Start a 2025  return online and enter some personal information  so that the menu on the left opens up and lets you access your past year returns.   Online tax preparation and e-filing for 2024  returns is now permanently closed.    Now it is too late to use online software or to e-file. If you have any changes/corrections at all to make to your 2024 return, you now have to complete it using desktop software, which you must download to a full PC or Mac  (not to a mobile device). Then you need to print, sign and mail it.   https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/printers-printing/finish-prior-year-return-started-turbotax-online/L9Oe4M90A_US_en_US?uid=m68tffpe   If you already paid for your online software you can ask customer support for a download of the desktop software.   They are available from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pacific time Monday - Friday   https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1899263-what-is-the-turbotax-phone-number     If you are getting a refund, there is no penalty for filing late.  If you owe tax due, then file and pay the amount due as shown on the Form 1040, but expect a bill later from the IRS for the penalty and interest you will owe.  Only the IRS will calculate this—TurboTax will not calculate it.     When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.   Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.

For disabled adults:   There is an extra amount added to your standard deduction if you are legally blind.   Your federal return does not provide any other credits or deductions for saying you are disabled, with one possible exception.     There is a credit for the Elderly and Disabled which is so small that very few people benefit from it—-it has not been updated/increased by Congress for decades.   ELDERLY OR DISABLED CREDIT https://www.irs.gov/help/ita/do-i-qualify-for-the-credit-for-the-elderly-or-disabled   There are some states that provide various credits to elderly/disabled folks, so watch for that when you prepare your state return.   The states that I know of that have anything for elderly/disabled are AZ, CT, DE, IA, MO, ND, NJ, NY, VE.   There may be others.
