This person gave money to scammers that are untraceable (gift cards). Is there any help for this?

Thank you for your reply. I tried and it seems I can enter information in forms view. However, I wonder if the the fact that input is not possible under the income topic, implies that calculations related to1099-R forms have not yet been updated for 2025.

Did you use TurboTax to prepare the original return?   https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-return/amend-change-correct-return-already-filed/L4VjJ9BA2_US_en_US?uid=m76mq6z2    Do not expect quick results from amending. It can take four months or more for the IRS to process an amended return.     You can watch for information here: https://www.irs.gov/Filing/Individuals/Amended-Returns-(Form-1040-X)/Wheres-My-Amended-Return-1     CAN I USE TURBOTAX TO AMEND IF THE RETURN WAS PREPARED SOMEWHERE ELSE?   If you did not use TurboTax to prepare your tax return, it is possible to amend the return using TurboTax but it will really be a pain.  It would be better to use the software or service used to file originally.  If a paid preparer made a mistake on your tax return, that tax preparer should do the amended return for you at no charge. In order to use TurboTax to amend your return, you need to purchase the desktop software for the tax year and re-create the return EXACTLY as it appeared when it was filed with the IRS/states.  Every line has to be the same.  Then you have to "trick" the software into thinking you filed by saying you will mail the return. (but do not mail it)   AFTER that, you use the software to prepare a Form 1040X, which has to be printed, signed and mailed to the IRS.  It takes the IRS about 4-6  months to process an amended return   https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products/ You may also want to explore purchasing the software from various retailers such as Amazon, Costco, Best Buy, Walmart, Sam’s, etc.

@jeeppadre89 wrote: ....the estate would distribute any gains with any other inheritance being distributed. Is this correct? That is the typical scenario; the estate would pass any gain through to the beneficiaries, but there are instances where the estate pays any tax due on its 1041 and distributes the proceeds to the beneficiaries.   Speak with the executor of the will or administrator of the estate (I made the presumption that the property is not in a trust since you made no mention of a trust).

When is this option going to be available?  I bought the software now in November 2025 to be able to do tax planning for tax year 2025. I don't understand why incomplete software is sold.

I appreciate your input, just need to verify that if the estate sells the property, then the estate is responsible for all gains and no individual is docked for capitol gain or has to claim any income. That the estate would distribute any gains with any other inheritance being distributed. Is this correct?
