The Palisades fire is not a qualified disaster. The term qualified disaster refers to disasters that occurred over certain specific dates, that qualify for enhanced treatment under the Inflation Reduction Act. The Palisades fire occurred after the window to be a qualified disaster closed. The Palisades fire is a federally declared disaster and you can claim a loss under the standard disaster loss rules. You can't use the enhanced rules for "qualified" disasters because it is not qualified.

The term "qualified" disaster loss has a specific meaning and was defined in the Inflation Reduction Act. It is:
Qualified disaster loss.
A qualified disaster loss includes an individual's casualty and theft loss of personal-use property that is attributable to:
A major disaster declared by the President under section 401 of the Stafford Act in 2016;
Hurricane Harvey;
Tropical Storm Harvey;
Hurricane Irma;
Hurricane Maria;
The California wildfires in 2017 and January 2018;
A major disaster that was declared by the President under section 401 of the Stafford Act and that occurred in 2018 and before December 21, 2019, and continued no later than January 19, 2020 (except those attributable to the California wildfires in January 2018 that received prior relief); and
A major disaster that was declared by the President during the period between January 1, 2020, and February 10, 2025. Also, this disaster must have an incident period that began on or after December 28, 2019, and on or before December 12, 2024, and must have ended no later than January 11, 2025.
Therefore, the Palisades fire is not a qualified disaster loss, because it did not have an incident period that began between December 2019 and December 2024. While it is a federally declared disaster, it is not a "qualified" disaster for the enhanced recovery procedures in the IRA.
Here is the IRS press released on the Palisades fire.

Thank you for the response. When I use the second link (https://myturbotax.intuit.com/account-recovery/) I get what I can only describe as an inadequate web page (TurboTax Online 2024) while it says "We're glad you're here!" I am far from a resolution and have no interest in Turbo Tax online at this point. Is there a better link to find all the accounts under my e-mail address? Thank you

The new basis in-kind and the amount of the distribution on the 1099-R matching is not the concern, rather it's the amount reported potentially being incorrect. As I understand things, what is reported is supposed to be the FMV of the stock on the date of distribution. But instead some big brokerages are reporting the PRIOR DAY market closing price as the FMV. I can't find anything that supports using prior day market activity as a valid method of computing FMV of publicy traded stock. SE

What we were asking for is a link to the section of the web sites which state the 2025 products will support Windows 10. Personally, I can't find any; all of the system requirements that state compatibility with Windows 10 relate to the 2024 (current) products.

To check on regular tax refund status via automated phone, call 800-829-1954.
Federal and state refunds come from completely separate entities. There is no rule as to which one will come in first or how long it will be between their arrival in your account.
TurboTax gives you an estimated date for receiving your refund based on a 21 day average from your date of acceptance, but it can take longer. “21 days” is not a promise from TurboTax or the IRS.
First, check your e-file status to see if your return was accepted:
https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/
Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control. TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.
You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount (line 35a of your 2024 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:
https://www.irs.gov/refunds
To track your state refund:
https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/track-state-refund/L3jgO8PGs_US_en_US?uid=lt447ebr
If you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund, that will take some extra time, while the third party bank handles the refund processing

I'm so disappointed that ItsDeductible is being discontinued. I have been a loyal Turbotax customer for as long as I have done my taxes by computer. It's been decades! Over the years, I have graduated to the Turbotax Home and Business program. At my recommendation, my three children are also Turbotax customers. I have never even considered checking out the competition until now. With the discontinuation of ItsDeductible, I need to look for another tax program for myself and my family that includes a way to help us place values on our charitable donations like ItsDeductible. We're just four little customers, but I bet there are other customers out there who feel the same way that we do. We need a tax program that includes a way to place values on our charitable donations!
