@ biz-wfshane wrote: "How do I save my current return information as a PDF, even if I haven't finished or filed yet?" You didn't say what product you are using, so I'll assume you're using Online TurboTax. If you're using desktop TurboTax, the method would be quite different. Report back if you need desktop instructions and state if you're using the Windows or Mac version. If you're using a paid online edition, in order to print/view/save you'll have to pay for your product in advance using a credit or debit card if you haven't already. The process below will tell you how to do that. With your return interview open go to the left menu column and choose the tab Tax Tools, then subtab Print Center. Then choose "Print/save/preview this year's return." On the next screen choose to "Pay now". Note: It may try to upsell you on add-ons like MAX, which you can choose or decline. The next screen should be an Order Summary. Review that, and if all is OK, click Continue. It should then prompt you for payment by credit or debit card. The screen only says "credit card", but it will take a debit card. If it should offer you the option to "pay later" out of the Federal refund, that can't be used for this purpose. You will need to pay now by credit/debit card in order to download/print prior to filing. Then you should have an option of which PDF to download/print/view. "Just my tax returns", or "include government worksheets (optional)", or "include government and TurboTax worksheets (optional.)" NOTE: Remember all PDF tax documents and tax data files are very sensitive files, since they contain your personal ID info, financial data, and possibly bank account numbers, etc. Be sure to store them safely and securely to guard against computer theft, hacking, etc.

Completely agree — removing ItsDeductible takes away one of TurboTax’s most useful tools for tracking charitable donations. For long-time users, this feels like losing a key feature we’ve relied on for years, especially with rising subscription costs. Intuit should reconsider or offer an equivalent alternative before discontinuing it.

Filing state taxes can be stressful enough — but realizing that your state filing didn’t properly embed or attach to your federal return can make things even more confusing. Whether you’re using TurboTax, H&R Block, or another e-filing software, knowing how to re-embed your state tax return ensures your forms are properly transmitted, updated, and accepted by your state’s tax authority. Here’s how you can fix the issue easily and avoid duplicate filings or rejections. 🧩 Step 1: Reopen Your Tax Return File Start by reopening your saved tax return within the software you originally used. For most users, this will be a .tax2024 or .tax2025 file. Ensure you have the latest software updates installed, as outdated versions can cause errors when linking your state and federal filings. :lia_[product key removed]ers: ️ Step 2: Check Your State Module In the software’s navigation menu, look for the section labeled State Taxes or State Return. If it shows as “not started” or “incomplete,” your state forms may not have embedded correctly during the original filing process. Choose the option to add or re-download your state filing module. 🔁Step 3: Re-Embed or Re-Link the State Return Once the module loads, follow the on-screen prompts to re-embed your state return. In most tax software, this means linking your state return to your federal return data. You’ll often see an option like “Start a New State Return,” “Amend,” or “Re-embed State Forms.” Select this and verify all your federal information imports correctly. :lia_w[product key removed]-mark: Step 4: Review All State Entries Before e-filing again, carefully review each state-specific form. Double-check your income, credits, deductions, and tax-withholding information to make sure it aligns with your federal data. Many re-embed errors happen when a new form version or update overwrites old values. 📤Step 5: E-File or Mail Your Corrected State Return After confirming that everything is accurate, proceed to re-file your state return electronically. If your state doesn’t accept e-filed re-submissions, print and mail the corrected return along with a note indicating it’s a re-embedded or corrected filing. 💡Pro Tip: Keep Confirmation Records Always save your updated confirmation or acknowledgment from your state tax agency. This document proves your filing was successfully re-submitted and prevents future disputes or late-filing penalties. :lia_magnif[product key removed]d-left: Final Thoughts Re-embedding your state tax filing might sound technical, but it’s simply the process of reconnecting your state forms with your federal return data. With a few careful steps, you can ensure your taxes are filed correctly and avoid unnecessary errors or delays. Stay patient, double-check your information, and keep your software up to date — a properly embedded return means a smoother tax season and peace of mind.

Exactly, it’s really disappointing to see an expired offer still showing up during checkout — it gives users false expectations. TurboTax should’ve updated their system right after the expiration date to prevent confusion. Hopefully, they fix this soon so future users don’t run into the same issue.

you are correct that the IRS standard sales tax deduction is not AGI times the general sales tax rate. for example I used single, 100,000 of income living in Chicago, IL, the IRS website gave me a figure of $1,333
for Beverly hills,Ca same facts the number was $1,242 for New York City it was $1,217
so it seems that the IRS concludes you spend little over 10% of your income on taxable purchases.
QCDs wouldn't count because none of it is spent on taxable purchases.

Are you on Windows or Mac? The only thing you can do with a PDF file is Transfer it into the NEXT year and then it only transfers limited info like your name, ssn, address, AGI . You can not open a pdf in the same year program at all. So you would need a 2023 pdf file to Transfer into a new 2024 return. But yes you should have a Tilde file. If you don't have the main .tax file you might have one that starts with a Tilde sign ~ like "~your name.tax2024". That file is if your computer crashes or your real file gets lost or deleted or corrupt so you can restore it. Search your whole computer for all files ending in .tax2024. And check the recycle bin and your backups. Check in the Admin User Account, One Drive, Drop Box, etc. It should be in your Documents then in the Turbo Tax folder.

SAVE YOUR TAX RETURNS !
EVERY year before mid-October you should save a copy of your tax return as a pdf and print a copy of it for your records. That way you will not be searching online frantically when you need it for a lender, FAFSA forms, your next tax return, etc.

When I hoover on the size box up by X it gives me layout choices for where to display it. So I can have 2024 & 2023 returns open side by side at the same time.

I'm filling out the What-If worksheet in the Desktop program. Where do you enter the Sales Tax instead of State Tax? That really doesn't matter since my state estimates etc are more. My main questions is......I did the IRS Sales Tax Deduction Calculator and it asked for non taxable IRA distributions not including Rollovers. Would that include the QCD charity distributions I made? I made a LOT of QCD. The IRS didn't have year 2025 listed yet so I put in 2024 and used my 2025 income. It didn't seem to give me very much sales tax. Looks like it only gave me about 10% of what I calculate. It shows 7.25% for my state. So don't I simply take my AGI x .0725? That is about 10x higher than the IRS gives me. If I take the IRS calculated tax amount / AGI I get .005. I guess there must be more formula to it. They probably don't give you the whole AGI x rate.
