TurboTax never knows how, when or even if you paid your tax due. It is your own responsibility to either mail a check or money order to the IRS or to pay the IRS via credit card or debit card, by entering that direct debit information when you file your return or by going to the IRS payment site yourself. Your only proof that you paid your tax due is your own bank or credit card record. You can also check your own online account with the IRS to see what is shown there.

@JackHoover Not sure why you are posting to a thread that has had no activity since 2021. But here is some information on amending a return prepared elsewhere by using TurboTax.
CAN I USE TURBOTAX TO AMEND IF THE RETURN WAS PREPARED SOMEWHERE ELSE?
If you did not use TurboTax to prepare your tax return, it is possible to amend the return using TurboTax but it will really be a pain. It would be better to use the software or service used to file originally. If a paid preparer made a mistake on your tax return, that tax preparer should do the amended return for you at no charge.
In order to use TurboTax to amend your return, you need to purchase the desktop software for the tax year and re-create the return EXACTLY as it appeared when it was filed with the IRS/states. Every line has to be the same. Then you have to "trick" the software into thinking you filed by saying you will mail the return. (but do not mail it) AFTER that, you use the software to prepare a Form 1040X, which has to be printed, signed and mailed to the IRS. It takes the IRS about 4-6 months to process an amended return

You may also want to explore purchasing the software from various retailers such as Amazon, Costco, Best Buy, Walmart, Sam’s, etc.

Has the earned income credit or child tax credit ever been disallowed for you?
That form is used if you are entering information to get the child tax credit or earned income credit. If you are eligible for either credit, the form 8862 is added automatically.
Have you entered income earned from working? Do you have a qualified dependent child under the age of 17? Or a qualified dependent child for the earned income credit? Or are you between the ages of 25 - 65 with income meeting the criteria to get earned income credit?
Make sure you have entered your child as a dependent in My Info, and that you have entered the child's Social Security number. Careful— do not say that your child’s SSN is not valid for employment. If your child was born in 2024 make sure you said he lived with you the whole year. There is an oddly worded question that asks if the child paid over half their own support. Say NO to that question.
Have you entered income from working in 2024? If not, you will not receive an income tax refund based on having dependent children.
The maximum amount of the child tax credit is now $2000 per child; the refundable “additional child tax credit” amount is $1700. In order to get that credit, you have to have income from working.
Take the amount you earned from working. Subtract $2500. Multiply the rest by 15%. That is the additional child tax credit per child that you can get—- up to the maximum of $1700 per child. If the amount you earned from working was low, you will not get the full $1700 per child.
If your child is older than 16 at the end of 2024, you do not get the CTC. But you may still get the non-refundable $500 credit for other dependents instead.

Desktop download software can only be used on a full PC or Mac, not on any kind of tablet or other mobile device. If you only have a tablet, you should be using online software.
If you purchased the download and do not have a computer that meets the system requirements, you can request a refund for the download and then switch to online. You cannot use the license code to pay for online TurboTax.

TurboTax receives no information from the IRS or your state after you file your return, whether you e-file or file by mail. Once you file your return, it is between you and the IRS or you and the state.
Federal and state refunds come from completely separate entities, There is no rule as to which one will come first or how much time there will be between their arrivals. Some states process returns quickly and some are very slow.
STATE RETURN

Online Software
Forms and schedules supported vary by which version you use
No Forms mode, but you can “preview” Form 1040 and Schedules 1, 2, or 3 before filing
One return per fee
Separate fees for federal and state returns
Each return needs its own account and user ID
Tax file is stored in online account for seven years
Online software only available on Intuit site
Can be used on any device with internet access
When you use Desktop TurboTax, which you install from a CD or download to your own hard drive, you can prepare and e-file multiple returns for the cost of the software. You can e-file up to 5 Federal returns—more if you mail the additional ones. If you have multiple returns to prepare for family members, Desktop is more cost effective.
Desktop --unless you specifically buy federal Deluxe only from a retailer-- will include the software for one specific state. You can prepare as many returns for that state as the number of federal returns you prepare. E-filing state returns is an extra fee which can be avoided by printing and mailing the states. Additional--other--state software is an additional fee for the software.
Desktop software includes "Forms" mode so that you can access and view all of the forms as you prepare your return; also includes a "What if?" feature which can be used to create estimated returns or to try out various scenarios.

TurboTax accounts cannot be merged. Choose one and stick with it. Keep a record of how to access the "old" one just in case you need information from something in that account.

Retirement accounts are not eligible for a step-up in basis. The taxable amount of retirement distributions is instead treated as Income in Respect of a Decedent (IRD) and is taxable to the beneficiary. Enter the Form 1099-R as received. If the decedent's estate paid estate taxes, you are generally eligible for a deduction on Schedule A line 16 of your individual tax return based on the amount of your share of the estate tax paid by the estate and the amount of IRD that you received.

Note the commentary on the user numbers - they don't have a problem "yielding share with lower ARPR customers" i.e. desktop users which accounts for less than 1% of Intuit's projected 2026 revenues and in decline. They expect Turbo Tax revenue growth of 8% in 2026 and that isn't from desktop. Intuit has all this user data and has done this analysis in making a calculated decision to stop supporting win10. TurboTax Live revenue grew 47 percent for the year, representing 41 percent of total Consumer Group revenue. TurboTax Live customers grew 24 percent. TurboTax Online paying units grew 6 percent on share gains from higher average revenue per return (ARPR) filers. TurboTax Online units declined 1 percent and total TurboTax units declined 2 percent for the year, due to yielding share with lower ARPR customers.
