If you efiled, the processing time should be about the same for a late-filed return as a timely-filed one. The average is about 3 weeks if you chose direct deposit. On the other hand, if you filed a paper return by mail, it can take several weeks to process. Here's how you can investigate: First, you need to be sure the return was successfully filed. It depends on how you chose to file the return. If you filed a paper return by mail, TurboTax does not mail it for you. If you chose that method, you would have had to print it, sign it, date it, and mail it yourself. It takes at least 4 weeks for a mailed return to show up in the IRS WMR tool. If you efiled, double-check to be sure the return was efiled successfully and accepted. If you used Online TurboTax, you can sign into your Online Account and check the efile status at the Tax Home. What word is used there for the status: accepted, rejected, printed, started, ready to mail, or something else? If that showed it was accepted, (or if you mailed a paper return), you can use the "Where's My Refund" tool at the IRS website below to monitor the status of your Federal refund. Is there any message there? https://www.irs.gov/wheres-my-refund Here are some tips when using that IRS tool: Be sure you enter the correct tax year, SSN, and filing status. Be sure you are using only the Federal refund amount. Do not include any state refund or any total refund or net refund (Fed and State) that TurboTax may have provided on a summary screen. Look at your actual Federal return to get the Federal refund amount to use in the tool, i.e., your Form 1040, Line 35a. Who did you call? The IRS? Only the IRS can tell you about your refund and they don't update Turbo Tax. Did you efile or mail your return? If you efiled was it Accepted? When you efile you get back 2 emails. The first email only confirms the transmission. The second email says if the IRS (or state) Accepted or Rejected your efile. Check back though your emails and spam/junk folder. When you log into your account you should also see the status and if it was Accepted or Rejected, Started, Printed, Ready to Mail, etc. What does it say?

You must have remembered it wrong. I have been paying estimates for over 10 years, maybe 20. Turbo Tax has never transferred estimated payments to the next year. As I said before the estimates that Turbo Tax prints out are optional to pay and Turbo Tax won't ever know if or when you paid them and how much. Turbo Tax only will transfer over if you applied some of a refund to next year or made a payment with an extension to file. You can call in and confirm. Oh no, did you send it in with the first 1040ES slip? The four 1040ES are prepayments for next year 2025 so you don't owe so much next year. You needed to send in the payment on the one 1040-V voucher. So next year when you do your tax return you will need to enter the #1 estimated payment. Maybe you can talk to the IRS and see if they will switch it to the 2024 tax due.

We owed taxes this year, and was more than expected. So when i finished the turbo tax program i chose the payment plan. but i did not realize their would be a finance charge penalty to pay of almost 30%. so we wrote a check for the whole amount, and sent it with the assigned payment voucher (#1) to the address on the voucher on 4-14-25. The bank shows the check was cashed on 4-29-25. recently we have received past-due letters to both my wife and I for payment and current penalty. According to the website, it doesn't show as paid. we called the IRS and were really given no help. Claiming we did something in error. Anyway the IRS seems to have our money but is not applying it to our account. what to do?

The passive activity losses reported in Form 8582 for 2023 in the 1040 return prepared with TTax Premier did not transfer into my 2024 tax return that I'm trying to finalize with TTax Premier. Past answer to a similar question suggested: "Passive Loss Carryovers from a partnership are reported during the Schedule K-1 interview. Check the box for "I have passive activity losses carried over from last year" on the page titled "Describe the Partnership" after entering the info from the individual boxes. Continue through the interview until you see the page titled "Report Carryovers - Regular Tax". This is where you report the passive loss carryover by income category. Subsequent screens allow you to enter other carryovers, and AMT carryovers." However, the "Describe the Partnership" interview page for 2024 does not provide an option to select "I have passive activity losses carried over from last year" How can I enter the carry forward data from 2023 in the 2024 tax return? I considered overriding the data entry in this year's Form 8582, but the override feature is not available on that form.

No. But I never have before either (been using TT for over 10 years and it always just tranferred the estimated amounts over to the current year's return).

MAGI for IRMAA is simply Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) plus tax-exempt interest. But your IRMAA is based on your MAGI from two or three years ago. For example, your IRMAA for 2024 will usually be based on your 2022 tax return, or possibly your 2021 tax return. On your 2021, 2022, or 2023 tax return, the MAGI for IRMAA is Form 1040 line 11 plus line 2a. See SSA - POMS: HI 01101.010 - Modified Adjusted Gross Income (MAGI) - 01/05/2024 Yes they look back a couple years to figure the IRMAA for the next year. https://secure.ssa.gov/apps10/poms.nsf/lnx/0601101031

Thanks for your help. Your answer looks correct except for some reason there is always a small non-taxable amount on my 1099R (5a vs 5b) that I'll add so I definately don't underestimate MAGI.

How can I file an Amended 1040-X for 2024 from my 2024 TurboTax online tax filing? I need to change from filing MFS to MFJ. I have the W-7 filled out. But how do I calculate the difference in tax between the two filing statuses? I had filed my return in early April 2025. Can TurboTax help me find the difference? Do I need to pay again for a desktop software, or can I use the online one since it was filed online?

@Kuehnertbridget wrote: "The IRS has issued my refund. However, I have not received my refund. Turbo Tax Payment Method is Refund Transfer and indicates Payment Pending. Where is my money?" So the IRS "Where's My Refund" tool says the funds have been sent? https://www.irs.gov/wheres-my-refund If so, and if you chose to pay your TurboTax fees out of your Federal refund, that process is handled by a third-party company SBTPG (Santa Barbara Tax Products Group, aka TPG). The IRS sends the funds to the third party bank where the fees are subtracted, then that bank sends the rest to your bank account (or card). If you used that method, then you can use the refund lookup tool at SBTPG's website to check on it. Choose the taxpayer portal at: https://www.sbtpg.com/ If you need to speak to them, SBTPG has a phone contact page at the following link. It also shows their business hours. Even when they are closed, you may be able to get automated info, or you can log in as above. https://help.sbtpg.com/hc/en-us/articles/230084587-Contact-Information
