When you amend you will need to delete the SSA1099 that you entered for your grandchild.      Go to Federal> Wages & Income>>Retirement Plans and Social Security  (SSA1099 and 1099RRB) to enter /delete a SSA1099     Do not enter the SSA1099 for your grandchild on your own tax return.   Someday if the child has other income  (after school job, etc.) and is filing a tax return, for that tax year he will need to include the SSA1099 on his own return.  Until then, it does not get entered anywhere.   https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-return/amend-change-correct-return-already-filed/L4VjJ9BA2_US_en_US?uid=m76mq6z2    Do not expect quick results from amending. It can take four months or more for the IRS to process an amended return.     You can watch for information here: https://www.irs.gov/Filing/Individuals/Amended-Returns-(Form-1040-X)/Wheres-My-Amended-Return-1

I understand your concerns and feelings about the issue, but in that regard, why continue to post here?   Why don't you simply buy TaxAct desktop for 2025 and be done with it. The program supports Windows 10 so it should be a no-brainer.

Hi- I purchased TurboTax 2024 Federal Basic from Amazon. I received what looks like a legitimate TurboTaz registration code. I was directed to installturbotax.com to download the software. I am unable to find 2024 Federal Basic anywhere on installturbotax.com or turbotax.com.. Where can I find the installer for 2024 TurboTax Federal Basic?   Note: This is for 2024 and was purchased from Amazon, not Intuit.

Yes, many of us will. My current front runner is TaxAct. I wonder if it will be millions. Intuit sold 5 million copies of the desktop software last year. Windows 10 is still around 40% of windows users, so that means around 2 million users are on windows 10. I bet many of those will update their PCs or be willing to use the online software. I'd guess in the 100's of thousands?

@baldietax @NCperson  Thank you I have two parts of large capital gains. One occurred before August 31. Another is around Oct 30. If with only the first part, I estimated that I am OK, because I increased per paycheck withholding. However, the Oct sale is not planned. And with this second part of capital gains, I will probably owe some tax at end of the year. Now I want to know if I can pay this ahead and avoid penalty. One question is since I did not know I will make the second part of my capital gains and I would not expect I will have to pay additional tax, why will I be considered late for paying estimated tax for previous quarter? Another is I did not set up estimated tax beginning this year, can I still pay that for one time? Thank you

@baldietax wrote: also keeping software from 2019 onwards won't help unless you keep old computers running too, it won't activate older than current tax year and 3 prior years (currently 2022-5). I'm don't quite understand why anyone would keep old TurboTax software anyway.   First of all, taxpayers can't get a refund after 3 years, the SOL, or 2 years after the tax has been paid, whichever is later, and although the IRS may send a letter of proposed changes to a return and additional tax, they will only very rarely request that an amended return be filed.   In addition, unless an extreme mistake has been made or there are somewhat unusual circumstances, it is NOT in a taxpayer's best interest to file a return that is past the SOL (time-barred) even if additional tax is due (assuming the standard 3-year SOL applies).
I have this problem with same old computer.  No phone support.  This company is joke and monopolizing the service.

You do not have to do anything with the rejected return if you are not going to file it.   E-filing for 2024 is permanently closed.  The only way you can file a 2024 tax return is to print it. sign and date it in, and take it to a mailbox in an envelope.   If you do not do that, the rejected return will go nowhere.     If you still have not filed a 2024 return using some other software or paid professional tax help, you can still make changes and file it.      You will be able to access the 2024 return you started by using the exact same account and user ID that you used when you started it.   But you can no longer use online software for any further changes.       Online tax preparation and e-filing for 2024  returns is now permanently closed.  The system is in transition from 2024 to 2025.    Now it is too late to use online software or to e-file. If you have any changes/corrections at all to make to your 2024 return, you now have to complete it using desktop software, which you must download to a full PC or Mac  (not to a mobile device). Then you need to print, sign and mail it.   https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/printers-printing/finish-prior-year-return-started-turbotax-online/L9Oe4M90A_US_en_US?uid=m68tffpe   If you already paid for your online software you can ask customer support for a download of the desktop software.   They are available from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pacific time Monday - Friday   https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1899263-what-is-the-turbotax-phone-number     If you are getting a refund, there is no penalty for filing late.  If you owe tax due, then file and pay the amount due as shown on the Form 1040, but expect a bill later from the IRS for the penalty and interest you will owe.  Only the IRS will calculate this—TurboTax will not calculate it.     When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.   Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
