I just received the email today. I'm also under the impression that we can get windows support for another year. I don't know why intuit would drop support. It doesn't make sense for me to buy a new computer just for turbo tax, which is the only program that requires it. I've been a TT user for nearly 30 years now. V disappointed with this announcement. I'm only interested in using desktop software for tax, not cloud, and will have to consider other options at this point. Very disappointing.

I just got my notification too, so I went and cancelled my subscription for the 2025 edition. No point in paying for something I can't use.

Until or if they update it you can add the extra amount of SALT (up to 40,000) into another category like Charity.

The new SALT limit doesn't work for me: (I'm not affected by the phaseout.)

I am fully in support of you. I hope millions of other users are too. I was a loyal Turbo Tax customer for years and years. But no more. The arrogance of TurboTax management is unbelievable. Forcing people to switch to Windows 11 to make their lives easier. I'm out. It'll be a hassle for sure; but after all the money I paid these people over the years, I'll be damned if I'll continue with them.

What I would do on the old computer, is copy the whole Turbo Tax folder that is under your Documents. That should be where the .tax files and pdf files are stored. Also if you haven't done it, I would open each year in the program and save it as a pdf file, go to FILE - SAVE TO PDF so you don't need the program installed to view your return. Copy that folder to a flash drive or best yet is to burn it to a CD or DVD and then you will have a backup of them. Then on the new computer copy the folder (or files) from the flash drive to your Documents folder. You only need the tax return data file ending in .tax2024 to transfer into 2025 to transfer into next year. You can't transfer the programs. They have to be installed from the CD or Download. You don't need to install older programs unless you need to amend or you didn't save the pdf file. And they only support the last 3 years. If you install an older year you won't be able to update it or download any state programs, so you won't be able to open your return. See this article on how to move your tax return to another computer……. https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/tax-data-file/help/how-do-i-move-my-tax-data-file-to-another-computer/00/26128

Windows 10 LTSC IoT, is available to businesses, and has full security update support until Jan 13, 2032. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/lifecycle/products/windows-10-iot-enterprise-ltsc-2021 They are completely misrepresenting this situation, security support is not ending.

This is a rather absurd position for them to take, and one that strongly pushes me to no longer do business with them.

Interesting indeed! Thanks for posting this, @SteamTrain.
The worksheet has also been updated for the higher SALT limit.
There is no place for the other new below-the-line deductions: overtime, tips, and car loan interest. You could fudge it by entering them on the line for the QBI deduction. You would have to manually calculate the correct amounts to enter.
