A 2022 tax return cannot be e-filed, it can only be printed and mailed.   To access your prior year online tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the User ID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/   Start the 2024 online tax return by entering some personal information then click on Tax Home on the left side of the screen.   On the Tax Home webpage - Scroll down to the section Your tax returns & documents.  Click on the Year 2022 and Click on Download/print return (PDF)    Print, sign, date and mail the federal tax return to the IRS.  Include with the mailed return any 2022 forms W-2 and 1099 which have taxes withheld. Are you asking about an estimated tax payment that you made in January 2024 or in January 2025? I think you meant that you made the payment in January 2024, but VolvoGirl thinks you made it in January 2025. An estimated tax payment in January normally is the final payment for the preceding year. A payment in January 2024 would be for 2023 tax, and a payment in January 2025 would be for 2024 tax. When you make an estimated tax payment you have to designate what year it's for. If you mailed a check with Form 1040-ES, the form has the year on it. If you made the payment online you selected the year that it was for. If you have an IRS online account, the payment history in your online account should show which tax year each payment was for. Your accountant, with your permission, can also look up your payment history. If you filed a tax return showing incorrect payments you should file an amended return. If it was the accountant's error, he should prepare the amended return at no charge. I don't know what you mean by "do it informally." There is no informal way to correct a tax return. The only way to correct it is to file an amended return. However, the IRS might catch the error and correct it without you having to do anything, since they have the records of your actual payments. So you might want to just wait until the IRS has processed your tax return and see what happens. Ask your accountant what he thinks you should do.

Sorry it's too, late to start a 2023 or prior online return or use the mobile app, either on Turbo Tax or the IRS. And too late to efile 2023. To do a prior year return you have to buy the Desktop program here, https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products You will need a full Windows or Mac to install it on.   If you have a simple return and want to file for free you can fill out the forms by hand.  Here are some basic forms..... Here is the 2023 1040 return https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040--2023.pdf or if you want bigger type use 1040SR for Seniors, https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040s--2023.pdf 2023 1040 Instructions https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/i1040gi--2023.pdf 2023 EIC and Tax Tables https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/i1040tt--2023.pdf Schedules 1-3 https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040s1--2023.pdf https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040s2--2023.pdf https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040s3--2023.pdf Don’t forget your state. And you will have to print and mail your returns.  So be sure to attach copies of your W2s and any 1099s that have withholding on them.  You have to mail federal and state in separate envelopes because they go to different places.  Get a tracking number from the post office when you mail them for proof of filing. Then when you file for 2024 you need to enter 0 for the 2023 AGI since you are filing 2023 late.

Wait...you paid in January of 2024?  (not in 2025?)   A Jan of 2024 Payment would (normally) be the last quarter payment for 2023 taxes.   If you included that as a 2024 Estimated tax payment, and the IRS disagreed with that exact amount...then the IRS records probably indicate it was a 2023 4th qtr estimated payment...and you/accountant should check to see if it was already used and applied it to 2023 taxes (properly), and again accidentally to 2024 taxes.

If it's done you can print it out and mail it now without using the Desktop program.  Did you pay the Turbo Tax fees that  year?  You must have not gone though all the steps to file it.  Did you go to the end and hit the big orange Transmit Returns Now button?  If you efiled it may have rejected.   When you efile you get back 2 emails. The first email only confirms the transmission. The second email says if the IRS (or state) Accepted or Rejected your efile. When you log into your account you should also see the status and if it was Accepted or Rejected, Started, Printed, Ready to Mail, etc. What does it say?   How to Access prior year online returns https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/prior-year-return/help/how-do-i-access-my-prior-year-return/00/27010 If you can't get the side menus to open up to access the prior year..... You need to start entering some basic Personal Info in 2024 for the side menu to open up. Just continue a little ways into 2024. I had to go though about 12 screens.
PA state inheritance tax would not be deductible on Form 1041.   All of the other fees you mentioned are deductible on Form 1041.

Please see how do I finish a prior-year return that I started in TurboTax Online for more details on what you can do to complete and file your prior year tax return.  You will need to download TurboTax Desktop for 2023 as the online option is only available for 2024 tax returns.   Make sure you are logging in using the same credentials that were used to prepare your 2023 tax return. See this link to verify the accounts you may have under your information.

I am a bit unsure as to what professional fees are deductible on the 1041 Estate income tax return. I have a flat legal fee that covered the attorney setting up the estate, getting the Letters Testamentary, filing the SS-4 for  the Estate EIN number, and preparing and filing the Pennsylvania Inheritance tax return. Additionally, I have Probate Fees, Legal Advertising fees, postage, and Turbo tax software purchase. Are all of these fees deductible on the 1041? Also, are Pennsylvania state Inheritance taxes deductible?

Did you use the Desktop installed program?  You should have the data file ending in .tax2024 to open in the program.  If you used the Online version you can download the .tax2024 file for free.    Are you on Windows or Mac?  What happened to your file?   For Windows. Your tax files end in .tax or starting in 2008, .tax2008, .tax2022, .tax2023, .tax2024 etc. They should be in your Documents in a Turbo Tax folder. You should also have the pdf files of each year. Or search your computer for all files ending in .tax. Find your Tax file in Windows https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/tax-data-file/help/find-your-tax-data-file-tax-file-in-windows/00/25926 For 2023 Windows Desktop program the return is saved as filename…. 2023 Smith {first name initial} Form 1040 Individual Tax Return.tax2023 If you don't have the main .tax file you might have one that starts with a Tilde sign ~ like "~your name.tax2024". That file is if your computer crashes or your real file gets lost or deleted or corrupt so you can restore it.   Did you search your whole computer for all files ending in .tax2024 etc? And check the recycle bin and your backups. Check in the Admin User Account, One Drive, Drop Box, etc. It should be in your Documents then in the Turbo Tax folder. Also if you have multiple Windows user accounts, log into each one and do the search for the *.tax20yy data file from within each one and checking the Recycle Bin in each one. This user found them in the Admin Account. https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/taxes/discussion/re-my-turbo-tax-2024-deluxe-save-file-disappeared/01/3677232#M1359726   He said….. -searches done thru my user account can't see admin files -windows file recovery showed no files, because no files were actually deleted, they were moved -undelete thru recuva was unsuccessfull because the files were not deleted but moved

Did the IRS ask you to amend?  You should not amend until the first original return was done processing and you got the first refund.  If you didn't get the first refund you need to delete it from the amended return.   The amended return will only be the difference you get back or need to pay. You can confirm this by printing your amendment and looking at the 1040X. Line 18 should be your original refund amount and line 21 should be your additional refund. If you paid on your original return it will be on line 16 (but don't include any penalty on 1040 line 38). If there is an amount owed with the amendment, it will be on line 20. Go by the actual 1040X. Line 18 should be your original refund amount and line 22 should be your additional refund. If you paid on your original return it will be on line 16. If there is an amount owed with the amendment, it will be on line 20. Ignore any 1040V voucher that prints out and the new 1040. Those are what your return would have been if you had not needed to amend.
It should go to 2024 Taxes.  The 4th Quarter Estimated tax payment for 2024 was due by Jan 15, 2025.  How did you pay it?  Did you mail a check with the 4th 1040ES slip?  Or pay directly online?

So, I guess this will be my final post on this topic.   Just got a letter from the IRS.  I am getting a refund of $52.14 because my under withholding penalty was improperly calculated on my return.  To get the full story you will have to read my other posts on this topic, but TurboTax initially calculated my underpayment penalty at over $1,000.  I went back to the portion of the Interview where data was input to enable the software to calculate the underpayment penalty and elected to use the annualized method, hoping that this would reduce the penalty since over half of my annual income came in the form of RMD's which were received in December.  Amazingly, even after annualizing my income, this produced no reduction in the calculated underpayment penalty.  I left the questionnaire and looked at the actual forms and noted that on the penalty worksheet, my new election to annualize my income had not been selected.  I proceeded to manually complete the relevant forms and this time the penalty was reduced to $534.  A sigh of relief.   Now in my mailbox I received a dreaded letter from the IRS.  Good new! (I guess).  TurboTax had overcalculated the under payment penalty and I am getting a refund of $52.14.  I am not going to look this gift horse in the mouth, but there is a problem with the TT software in this area.
I meant to say does that Jan estimate go towards 24 or 25 taxes?
