No response yet. Really? There is a problem and I have not received anything close to workable solution. On the surface this would appear to be a glitch in the software. I am just trying to import dividend and interest data and IRA RMds, so nothing complicated. I guess I will have to manually input the data. At this point I have no confidence that there are other issues that will occur. Good bye Turbotax.

If you are using a MAC, this is a known issue. Unfortunately you will need to paper file your Federal Amendment.

Ideally, the preparer of the K-1 and attachments has provided a breakdown for what may be reported on each of the K-1 entries. This would insure the proper cost basis for the assets and proper qualified business income deduction. See sample.
Original K-1 1 2
Box 1 $1,000 = $1,000
Box 2 $500 = $500
Box 4 $100 = $75 $25
Box 5a $200 = $150 $50
Box 5b $100 = $75 $25
W-2 wages $50,000 = $25,000 25,000
UBIA $100,000 = $50,000 $50,000

My family is retiring in this tax year 2024. Now how could they file the 1099 docs with the last paycheck, combined with SSA1099 and 1099R, for the last tax-year 2024? What kind of tables/taps/terms will be used in our TurboTax App? For example: As for 1099R, I used pension tables. As for edu expenses, I used Table 8863. If the IRA will be funded by the bank after 4.15, could we file the IRA incomes in the next tax-year 2025? Many thanks.

If the e-file was accepted, you will need to wait for your return to be fully processed and then amend to correct your filing status. And when you file married filing separately, there are some rules to follow. Both spouses must file the same way---either you both use standard deduction or you both itemized. It cannot be one of each. Each of you is required to enter some information on your own return about your spouse. If you are in a community property state, it becomes more complicated.
Wait until your original return has been fully processed before you amend, and make sure you have saved a pdf of the original return before you amend. (If you do not save it as a pdf, the amended return will overwrite the original, and the original will be lost forever)
See this TurboTax support FAQ for amending a tax return -

Do not expect quick results from amending. It can take four months or more for the IRS to process an amended return.

The Form 1098 reports the outstanding mortgage principal as of January 1 of the current tax year in box 2 according to the IRS instructions for Form 1098. After you have entered all of your Form 1098s, if it appears that your mortgage interest should be limited, there will be a follow-up question asking for the ending balance of the mortgage so that the average mortgage balance can be calculated. This is not the same value that is included on your Form 1098. You will need to find it on your mortgage statement for the end of the 2024 year or the very beginning of 2025.
This calculation to limit your mortgage interest is done on the Deductible Home Mortgage Interest Worksheet, which you can print as part of your return or see in Forms if you are using a desktop version of TurboTax. You can see on this worksheet that the average balance is used for the calculation.

One more question. I had already moved the 401k from my former employer to an IRA Edward Jones. I did it in Tax Year 2025. The distribution came from Edward Jones IRA. Does that change anything? I understand the earnings will be covered in Tax Year 2025. Do I still follow the steps you provided? Sorry with so many questions as I don't speak financial terms 🙂

I am wondering if this means the both federal and state amend have been transmitted, jus the turbotax desktop cannot track the status for the federal. I am stuck in the loop as shown in the image.

If he was an employee when he earned the commission, then this should be reported on a W-2. Yes, if they will not change it quickly then you should file the way I suggested in my initial response. You can file an extension, however, that is assuming they will change it. They may not be willing to, and if not, it is easier to let the IRS handle it.

We are selling our mass house in 2025. Before we can sell and move to our new house, we have to replace one septic system. After the septic is replaced, we can sell and then buy our new house also in Mass. we obtained the septic engineering proces in 2024 and replaced the septic system in 2025. we will soon move into our new home. my question is can we receive a mass state tax credit for replacing the septic system when we do our taxes next year even though we will no longer be living in the house with the replaced septic system

The annual election to expense items under $2,500 applies to all of your rental properties, but it does not interfere with capital improvements like your $5,700 central A/C.
Here's how it works:
If you elect to expense the $750 appliance, TurboTax will apply this election to all qualifying purchases under $2,500 across your rental properties.
Capital improvements, like your A/C unit, are not affected because they exceed the threshold and must still be depreciated over 27.5 years.
So, you can expense the appliance without worrying about it impacting the depreciation of your A/C unit. Just make sure you have a consistent process for recording expenses and assets, as TurboTax suggests.

Hello all, I receive a 1099-NEC as an independent contractor (self-employment) and have been contributing to my solo 401k for a few years, last year I also got a W2 from another employer and I contributed 7.5k to my 401K at this place. My Question is - I have a net income of 22K with self employment. How much can I contribute as employee into my solo 401k and how much as an employer (profit sharing). Thank you
