Although I was massively over-withheld for the first half of the year, I fell behind in the 3rd and 4th quarter and  ended up getting hit with a big late penalty.  I was able to lower it somewhat by using the actual payments rather than the deemed equal installments but it is still pretty large. I noticted that over half of the penalty was being generated by the 4th quarter underpayment which Turbo tax seems to default to being paid when the return is due on 4/15/25 (90 days at 7%).  However, I ended up getting laid off at the end of the year and received a severance package in late January which included a large amount of tax withheld - Way more than the amount of my underpayment.  Unfortunately, the payment wasn't made until January 17 (after the 1/15/25 due date for the 4th quarter) so it is not reflected on the Form 2210 which only picks up payments through the due date.     I realize the January withholding is supposed to be for the severance payment, but shouldn't the payment be applied to the prior taxes that were due for 2024 first?  That would result in my underpayment only being 2 days late rather than 90 days late.  I know that could leave me underpaid for 2025, but there is still a lot of time left in the year and as long as I meet the safe harbor by the end of the year, it shouldn't matter.    Is there any way to address this in Turbotax?   Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have the exact same problem when I tried to amend my tax, initial e-filing failed because the software needs to update, and then after updating, only state was e-filed successfully, federal seems to be stuck in the transmission trouble. I tried multiple things and it doesn't work. it seems the software thinks we have transmitted both federal and state amended, but the federal one failed.

This is my reply to MesquiteBean. Thanks so much.  I followed your advice in the first paragraph.  I went ahead with selecting to pay with a credit card when I got to the screen that asked "How would you like to pay?" and showed the last line "$45 TurboTax Premium Service Applies".  I selected Pay With Credit Card.  The following screens asked for credit card info but showed no $45 charge in the Total in the final screen.  Phew!  Thanks again.  Sorry.  My Opera browser didn't let me paste the screenshot here.
turbo tax tells me to make sure to pay for TurboTax with a U.S. credit card, but as I have lived in France since i'm 8, i only own a french credit card and bank account. How do i proceed ?
I did, they ask a few questions from your W-2 and they can then import your total W-2 information into Turbo Tax.

On Turbo tax and the IRS site both say that Roth IRA is affected due to income size. It limits the income to 10,000 if you are filing separately and have lived together. So how to tell if you lived together legally? Please also let me know where to find this information in the tax code.

@babs95709 wrote: Because I started my taxes late, I was in a hurry so when TurboTax suggested I could continue without transferring my 2023 Taxes, I went ahead and started my 2024 return, not realizing this could cause a problem later.  I wonder why TurboTax didn't suggest looking for my 2023 files under a different account. I tried to sign out of TurboTax, so I could sign in with another account.  Every time I exited TurboTax and opened it again I couldn't open it with another account.  it was extremely frustrating. In checking my computer for the 'TurboTax 2023 Document' file there was only my '2023 Tax PDF' file.  It is weird because all other tax years have both types of files.   Is there a way to upload the 2023 TurboTax data file to my nearly complete 2024 Return? IF I FIND IT??   First, please confirm what version you are using for 2024 and what you used for your 2023 return.    This year are you using 2024 Online TurboTax (web browser version) or the 2024 desktop TurboTax (installed software)?  And last year for 2023?   If you have multiple online accounts, we can tell you how to look for multiple accounts to hopefully find the *.tax2023 data file--IF it was prepared online last year. What you can do with it at this point, however, depends on what version you are using for 2024.  However, in both Online TurboTax and desktop software, you can only transfer a *.tax2023 data file into a new return.

I have a business profile attached to personal Venmo account for my small Soccer Camp business. I received 9k in venmo funds for the camp but the 1099k was attached to my personal social # and not the EIN of my business. I file taxes for the business and get a K1, which includes this 9k of income from Venmo. How do I fix this? This 9k was not personal income- it was business income which I then get a share of (the business is split 4 ways, 25% ownership. ) Any help is appreciated. Spoke with an Accountant who said that I should be asked by TurboTax if I got a 1099 from my small business and then can list this 9k as expenses so it cancels out but I did not see this question. I was hoping to be able to fix this with TurboTax and file online and not have to go through an accountant but not sure if that will be possible. Any help is appreciated.
