Hi Vanessa, Thank you for your response. I have been unable to login to respond, though I've gotten that corrected with Turbotax support. The Virginia K1 is new to both the Federal and the State. When I look at the forms, I do see it listed on the Virginia return, however Delaware is showing roughly $1900 vs Virginia showing $124 in tax. It just doesn't make sense that income earned while living in VA would be taxed in Delaware? Marion

Federal and state tax returns are always separate.
A multi-member LLC is treated as a partnership for tax purposes. The LLC has to file a Form 1065 partnership tax return. The partnership tax return includes a Schedule K-1 for each partner. Each partner has to enter the Schedule K-1 in his or her personal Form 1040 tax return.
You cannot use a personal version of TurboTax to file the Form 1065 partnership tax return. You have to use TurboTax Business, which is available only as desktop software that you install on your Windows computer.
The deadline for filing a partnership tax return is March 15, not April 15. The penalties for filing late are steep and increase each month. File as soon as you can.
If you and your spouse are the only members of the LLC, and you live in a community property state, you may have the option to disregard the LLC and report it on your personal tax return.

OK. To the best of my recollection: Contributing excess funds to a Roth 401k that you can't remove means that a portion of your 401K withdrawal when you retire is supposed to be taxable, even though a Roth normally is not taxable. However, the plan trustee doesn't keep track and there are no good instructions on how you should keep track, there is no specific tax form for this. So the thing most people do is probably to just leave it alone and hope the IRS doesn't notice, which they probably won't. (When you retire, if we assume the 401K is worth $500,000 and this excess is a few thousand, then less than 1% of your withdrawal would be taxable, very hard to track.)
But I will double check with an expert @dmertz
(Now, I do want to be extra careful. Some employers use a Payroll Deduction IRA. This is not a 401k. A payroll deduction IRA is where an IRA is opened in your name, and the employer makes contributions for you, so you don't forget. But this is an IRA in your name. You can make extra contributions up to the limits for IRAs, you can withdraw funds subject to the normal rules for IRA, and you pay the penalties for excess contribution as with any other IRA. Employers do this because the rules are much simpler for them than establishing a true 401k plan. If you have a payroll deduction IRA, your contribution limit is $7000 and there is a 6% penalty every year if you don't remove the excess contributions. If you have a true 401k, the contribution limit is $23,000 for voluntary deferrals, and $69,000 for total contributions (deferrals plus employer contributions). Because you mentioned 6% before, I want to be doubly-sure that you have a true 401k and not a payroll deduction IRA. If you have a true 401k, then my answers above are correct.)

Did you e-file your tax return and was it accepted? Only the IRS and your State control when and if a Federal or State tax refund is Approved and Issued.
You complete your tax return by finishing all 3 Steps in the File section. In Step 3, to e-file your tax return, you must click on the large button labeled "Transmit my returns now".
After completing the File section and e-filing your tax return you will receive two emails from TurboTax. The first email when your tax return was transmitted and the second email when the tax return has either been accepted or rejected.
Note - Once a tax return has been Accepted by the IRS or a State, TurboTax receives no further information concerning the tax return or the status of any tax refund. Only the taxpayer listed on the tax return can obtain the status of a tax refund or a tax return.
To check the status of an e-filed return, open up your desktop product or log into your TurboTax Online Account. You can find your status within the TurboTax product. If accepted by the IRS use the federal tax refund website to check the refund status - https://www.irs.gov/refunds
If accepted by the state use this TurboTax support FAQ to check the state tax refund status - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/track-state-refund/L3jgO8PGs_...
After the tax return has been Accepted by the IRS (meaning only that they received the return) it will be in the Processing mode until the tax refund has been Approved and then an Issue Date will be available on the IRS website. See this IRS website for federal tax refund FAQ's - https://www.irs.gov/refunds/tax-season-refund-frequently-asked-questions
Call the IRS: 1-800-829-1040 hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Monday-Friday When calling the IRS do NOT choose the first option re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line. So after first choosing your language, then do NOT choose Option 1 (refund info). Choose option 2 for "personal income tax" instead. Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment". Then press 3 "for all other questions." Then press 2 "for all other questions." - When it asks you to enter your SSN or EIN to access your account information, don't enter anything. - After it asks twice, you will get another menu.
Press 2 for personal or individual tax questions. Then press 3 for all other inquiries It should then transfer you to an agent.

Thank you for these answers. I made non deductible ira contributions into a traditional ira from 2014 thru 2022. Never filed an 8606. Prior to 2014 i made deductible contributions. in 2024 i took my first ira withdrawal in 2024. I would like to simply do a one time cumulative form 8606 catch up and include all prior non-deductible contributions in total on 2024 form 8606, line 1, would my basis on line 2 be 0 since there were no prior forms 8606 filed? TIA

The vehicle is used on the Turo platform, which is a car sharing company. I would use it sometimes for personal, but most of the time it will remain on the Turo platform to be rented out. I have a partnership LLC. I act as a member to the company.
I can't speak to every combination of factors, but one thing is that if you take the car out of service for the LLC before the normal depreciation period is over (5 years I think) you will have to pay back the unearned portion of the section 179 depreciation. If you are a single member LLC that just means moving money from one pocket to the other, but if you have a partnership, the partner may be disadvantaged. You would then have to get reimbursement from the partnership for business use of your personal vehicle for specific rentals.
If you want to use a "company car" for personal use, there is a way for that to be treated as part of your taxable compensation, or you pay the company for personal use.
The two easiest arrangements to explain are
a. the business owns the car and only uses it for business purposes.
b. you own the car personally and the business reimburses you only for business use. But because the business currently owns the car and took section 179, the business will take a hit if you transfer it back to personal use.
You may want professional accounting advice, especially if you are going to be mixing business and personal use, where you own the car but other partners have an interest in how the finances are managed.

What it looks like is happining is, the program is trying to apply the excess Roth contribution to the follwing year. for 2023 , I had enough income to contribute only $158 to my Roth....but I did not decide to do that... Like I said previously on my compleated 2024 tax return ,form 5329 Line 18 = $542. And if you add $158+$542 it equals the $700. ( my excess contribution for 2022) I totally removed the $700 in Nov. 2024 ... I am not an expert , & its a bit tough for me to cut through this, but It looks like I need to amend 2024, .. & on form 5329 ,the removal forwards to Line 18 , equaling: $700 & Line 24 should be at 0. What do you think. & Thank you again.
