It is not part of the standard deduction. It is separate. I'll tell you how to see it below. For seniors age 65 and older and meet the other qualifications for the new Enhanced Senior Deduction, TurboTax automatically fills out Schedule 1-A in the background and then enters the amount of the deduction on the Form 1040, Line 13b. It is not part of the standard deduction--it is a completely separate deduction on its own line. If you are "married filing jointly" and both qualify, then you both get the new deduction. If you are "married filing separately", however, you are not eligible. Single filers, HOH filers, and qualifying surviving spouse, if they otherwise qualify, are eligible. You appear to be using Online TurboTax--at least that is what a tag shows underneath your question above. If you are still preparing your online return, and want to verify that you received that new senior deduction, here's how you can preview the Form 1040 and confirm you are getting the enhanced senior deduction. If you already printed out a copy of your return, you can view the Form 1040, Line 13b and Schedule 1-A where it was calculated. If still preparing your return, here's how to preview it: With your return open go to the left column menu, and click on TAX TOOLS, then subtab TOOLS. In the Tools window choose "View Tax Summary." On that Tax Summary screen you should see that you are getting "Additional Deductions (Schedule 1-A)." Then, while still on that Tax Summary screen, you can further verify it by going over to the left column menu and under Federal clicking on "Preview my 1040." That opens up the Form 1040 Worksheet. Scroll down to Line 13b, and the figure there includes the enhanced senior deduction from the Schedule 1-A. And while you are there, you should see your standard (or itemized) deduction on Line 12e.

No one but the state tax agency will know what all they are doing with your state return. Some states process returns fairly quickly, while other states may take weeks, especially if they need any extra processing. You may have to phone them and ask. But before doing that, here are some things to check: First, double-check to be sure your state return was successfully filed. If you efiled, be sure your efiled state return was accepted. If you used Online TurboTax, you can check by looking at the Tax Home in your Online account. Or did you choose to file by mail instead? TurboTax does not mail it for you. If you chose that method, you have to print, sign, date, and mail it. The FAQ below tells how to check on a state refund. When you scroll down further there, you will see a link for your state. If you are in Online TurboTax, that version allows only 1 Federal return per online account per year. In the Online products, a second return would require a second account and second fee (if applicable). It is the desktop version that can handle multiple Federal returns with up to 5 free Federal efiles. If it's a product with state software, then it can prepare multiple state returns (of that same state). There is a $25 state efile fee (except no state efile fee for NY state). There is no state efile fee if one chooses to print and mail the state returns. If you want to buy the desktop software directly from TurboTax, here's where: https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/cd-download/

Thanks, I missed some of those "less" items like the "less box #12". I'm now very close, just off by $8.01. I'm not sure where that's coming from. Are there any other special less boxes, or other areas that could reduce the subtraction in OR-ASC BOX B2? Side note: I really wish they had a breakout to show how BOX B2 is being added. Seems like a critical thing for Oregon filers.

I installed a small (<1 mw) solar panel system to a rental property. In 2025 Turbotax Premier Online, I've added it as an asset under the rental property. Everything I'm reading says Turbotax should take me through an interview where it asks if it's a solar system that qualified for 30% credit, but it doesn't and there are no other options under "asset type" to indicate that it's solar. I've tried adding it under various asset types. I've correctly entered a 2024 construction begin date and 2025 placed in service date, and 5 kW in both line 12a items. Update: I spent another 1.5 hours with them and they continue to incorrectly insist that an <1 kw system still has to meet prevailing wage requirements and don't appear to be willing to investigate further. So I guess I'll need to redo our taxes in another product. When I add an Investment Credit (Form 3468) and select 7a (<1 mw system) and 8d (prevailing wage not applicable), it only calculates 6% credit in Section VI even though those options should trigger 30%. I called Intuit and they insisted I have to answer 8a (subject to prevailing wage and meets requirements), but that triggers Form 7220 (to demonstrate that the prevailing wage requirements are met), and prevents e-filing. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks!

Check Business Info: If it reappears, check the "Business Info" section to ensure you didn't accidentally answer "Yes" to having farm income.
Check Schedule SE: Ensure you haven't mistakenly used the "farm optional method" in the self-employment tax section.
Locate "Delete a Form": Go to the "Tax Tools" menu, click "Tools," then select "Delete a form" in the pop-up window.
Delete Schedule F: Find "Schedule F" in the list of forms, click "Delete," and confirm.

To do a prior year return you have to buy the Desktop program here, https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products For 2024 you will need Windows 10 or Mac Ventura 13 to install it on. If you can't install the Desktop program or if you have a simple return and want to file for free, you can fill out the blank IRS forms by hand. Here are some basic forms….. Here is the IRS 2024 Form 1040 https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040--2024.pdf or if you want bigger type use 1040SR for Seniors, https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040s--2024.pdf And 2024 Instructions https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/i1040gi--2024.pdf Sch 1 : https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040s1--2024.pdf Sch 2 : https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040s2--2024.pdf Sch 3 : https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040s3--2024.pdf Then when you do file 2025 enter 0 for the 2024 AGI since you are filing 2024 late. You have to print and mail prior year returns. When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS received the return. Don’t forget state.
