You'll know you did this right if your housing allowances shows up right on your SE. DO NOT DO THIS: 1. Search for other reportable income and select the Jump to link. 2. Answer No to Did you receive any other wages? and select Continue. 3. Scroll to the bottom of the Let's Work on Any Miscellaneous Income screen and select Start next to Other reportable income. 4. Answer Yes, and on the Any Other Taxable Income screen, type Clergy Housing Allowance in the description and enter it as a negative number (precede it with a minus sign) -- YOUR RETURN WILL LOOK VERY WRONG WITH NEGATIVE NUMBERS ON Schedule 1 box Z, and the SE box 2. It will also mess up your STATE.

You can put the amount from box 2a in box 16. If box 2a is blank, you can use the amount from box 1.

Hello, I'm trying to calculate my MAGI for if I can contribute to ROTH IRA or need to go with Traditional IRA. I want to make sure I'm totaling everything correctly and pulling from the right fields in my 1040 tax return. So I have my job income, some RSU, Stocks, dividends, and rental income. Reading Worksheet 2-1 (online) I need to add my adjusted gross income plus the rental income minus losses/expenses then? I take Form 1040 line 11 my adjusted gross income, which is my w-2 work income plus stock gains and Dividend etc. That's part one. Part two is this the Schedule 1 Form 1040 line 5: Rental real estate, royalties, partnerships, S corporations, trusts, etc. Attach Schedule E. That seems to be Rent income minus expenses, and matches Schedule E line 26 Total rental real estate and royalty income or (loss). So I total my adjusted gross income and Total rental real estate and royalty income or (loss) to get my MAGI then?

I've been trying to download all evening. I go to https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/cd-download/install-turbotax/ and it just spins - nothing downloads and no page comes up. I turned off my VPN and my Windows is fully up-to-date. Chrome is fully updated as well. I also tried with Edge - no luck. Please advise.

Hi, My federal and state returns were rejected because I used an incorrect AGI. I corrected the error. Now Turbotax wants me to go through the e-filing process again, including giving my credit card and banking details for payment. However, my card was already charged. Why is Turbotax asking for this information again? Thank you, Brian Wagner

I'm a travel and event planner. If I use my home for a class I'm teaching, hosting events, and promos, can I use the comparison of a local hotel meeting room and deduct "meeting space" from Schedule C? What category would I list it under? Local hotel is charging $150 for 4 hours.

Hello! My husband and I each made Roth IRA contribution for 2023 before we realized that we couldn't. Thankfully, I realized this before the April 15, 2024 deadline, so I contacted my broker and withdraw the excess contribution. I made a profit of about $700, while my husband took a loss on his contribution. We both received 1099-R in 2024 for the excess contribution. My questions are as follow: 1. I entered both 1099-R in the 2024 tax, that is correct? 2. TurboTax told me that I would need to amend my 2023 tax? Is that something that I need to do? If so, do I need to enter both my husband and my 1099-R? 3. Since my husband took a loss, I'm guessing there's no additional tax and penalty on his part? Since I made a profit, this would be taxed and penalized? Any guidance would be appreciated. Thank you!!

That situation usually only applies when the parents earn too much to get the American Opportunity Credit for education so they allow the child to get it. The student checks the box on the federal return saying someone can claim them and then checks the box saying that no one will claim them.
To claim the student on the California return: Go to the "State Interview" page. That page says "Your 2024 taxes are ready for us to check". There is then a "General Info" area with an edit button. After a couple of screens, that one gets you to the "Do you have a dependent you didn't claim on your federal return" page.

The Oklahoma non-resident tax form (511NR) asks me to list my state of residence, but it does not allow me to put FC (for foreign country) or name of country for state return. When I tried to e-file it, it kept telling me I need to correct it. The version I'm using is TurboTax Home and Business 2024. Thank you!
