Yes, your first example demonstrates a bug.  That appears to be a new page in online TurboTax for this year.  The desktop version of TurboTax does not appear to have that page and does the calculations correctly.   I suspect that if the online version did not block the entry of proper spousal contributions, the underlying tax forms would be prepared correctly.   TurboTax developers seem to be adding a bunch of buggy fluff to the online version this year.

You received an email that we cannot see that tells you why your tax return was rejected.   Some rejected returns can be fixed and re-filed.  Some have “un-fixable” reasons for the rejection and have to be mailed instead.    What is the rejection code or rejection message?     If it was rejected for AGI—-your 2024 AGI might not be in the IRS system if you filed late.   Try using zero instead.   If filing with zero is rejected then file again but select the option that you did not file last year.  The IRS does not see that question and it will allow you to e-file with no AGI question.     https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/agi/help/where-do-i-correct-my-agi-in-turbotax-online/00/26311   If that does not work and you still cannot e-file, then print, sign, and mail your tax return.

Based on what you are saying, it sounds like you are talking about the retirement deduction for South Carolina.  In order to get the deduction, each of you must have retirement income that you receive.  Up to $10,000 of retirement income can be claimed for this deduction and it will appear on the South Carolina SC1040 form under Subtractions from Federal Taxable Income on line p.  If your wife didn't have any retirement income, she wouldn't be eligible to get the deduction.
CAR LOAN INTEREST Go to Federal>Deductions and Credits>Cars and Other Things You Own>Car Loan Interest The amount will go on Schedule 1a and end up on Form 1040 on line 13b
TurboTax keeps saying that state and local taxes are deductible but I can't a place on the return where you enter this.

If you have not entered income from working first, the childcare credit will not work.   Have you entered your W-2's or self-employment income that does not show a loss?   If you are filing a joint return you must show income from both spouses.  If you are filing married filing separately, you cannot get childcare credit.

Do you use a VPN which changes your ISP location frequently?  I just did the review of my complaint, of having 1 more install than expected, with Customer Service.  It seems using a VPN, while using Turbo Tax, makes it appear you are using another device.  The decision is to turn off VPN  before opening Turbo Tax.  Most of my banks also I have to turn off VPN, so this seems the correct answer to me.    I hope this is a resolution for you

Your return cannot be filed at this time due to a processing error that will be corrected on February 13, 2026. On or after this date, open the rejected return, review it for errors, and resubmit the return for electronic filing.   @brentbeebe
Car loan interest is supposed to be tax deductible but I do not see where in turbo tax to enter it. Do we just add it under the registration portion?
Am experiencing the same issue on my desktop software.  Really want to file this but question how that is possible if Intuit haven't integrated the finalized forms yet.
